The House of the Dead: Overkill is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Although maybe some of you aren't old enough for it yet.
I agree. I love the B-Movie style. Bit of a short lifespan though
Madworld is pretty badass too. Soundtrack is a bit annoying though.

We own at least 4 'non-games' for our DSes.
Also, as I keep saying, The House of the Dead: Overkill is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Although maybe some of you aren't old enough for it yet.
Oh. That means there are fun games not aimed at kids. :)
I have to agree. Of only one time I played it, we beated the final boss. The end was a mix of disgusting and awesome.
ANYWAYS, Just to bugger the mate who has it to play again... Does it have an alternate ending? And mind answering that without spoiling it? D:

Yeah the only Wii games that get acclaimed are ye olde Nintendo series. If they made a new Kirby people would be all over it. What about Excite Truck, Zack & Wiki, Pangya, Boom Blox, Okami, Geometry Wars, FaceBreaker, Resident Evil, ...?
But... facebreaker is an awful game? Its just really drawn out rock-paper-scissors.
Also Okami and Resident Evil are available for other consoles too.
Zack, Pang and Boom I've never heard of.
Does it have an alternate ending?
Not that I know of. You unlock a new weapon when you complete it in Director's Cut but you have to plan ahead if you're going to be able to afford it.
Zack, Pang and Boom I've never heard of.
Zack & Wiki (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/zack-and-wiki-quest-for-barbaros-treasure-review) is a puzzle game. I've never played it but it sounds like it's pretty good.
Boom Blox (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/boom-blox-review) is a sort of puzzle/action game. In some of the modes you use the Wii Remote to throw balls at piles of blocks and knock them down. In other modes you play sort of like Jenga but with more advanced rule sets.
Pangya (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/super-swing-golf-review) is known as Albatross 18 on PC. It's a Korean golf game. You can either swing the Wii Remote to play or use buttons in a more traditional style. It's pretty neat (if tricky).

Oh, hoho... That's enough for me. We ended the game thanks to an Übered shotgun... Wow, it's was like if it shot grenades with dinamite sticks in them.

Actually, its now known as Pangya. They had a name change (or, in this case, a name undo?) when they changed server entirely. Which was pretty recently.

My strategy on my current playthrough is to use the Magnum until I can afford to max out the Auto Shotgun, then stockpile money until I've finished the last level in Director's Cut so I can afford the weapon it unlocks. I've played a lot of it and it seems this is the only sensible way to get the gun I can't mention for fear of spoiling it.
It'd be a beast dual-wielded. No combos but plenty of action hero... um... action.
PLAY IT!
I have an account for the PC one which I registered a couple of years ago. I don't know what the details are or where they'd be but I wouldn't mind a couple of rounds. The only problem is I can't dedicate enough time (or money) to it to make it really worth my while.

First thing you'd need to do is make an account and use it to recover the details of your old one, which you can do here http://pangya.ntreev.net/.
The only problem is I can't dedicate enough time (or money) to it to make it really worth my while.
You really don't need to. While its classed as an RPG, its far different than most in that there isn't a powerhouse of a difference between a completely new player and a long-time, did-everything player. Its far more focused on the actual player's talent.

But I'll be stuck with bog-standard Scout forever. I've signed up and installed it now, anyway. It all seems to work so far, although I'm pretty rubbish at the minute. I think I prefer the Wii version (it has single-player).

I'm sure he's bought new clothing items/clubs/etc, though. I have nothing new yet and only about 3,069 Pang (bearing in mind you start with 3,000). Anyway, I'm away this weekend so I'll have to wait until next week to play it properly.

LittleBigPlanet is still eating all my time. Most of today I've been trying to ace as many levels as possible (I'm going for the Play trophy).
I've only got a couple of Wilderness levels, the Metropolis levels and one of the chellenges in The Wedding levels. Everything else is aced (although I'm yet to find 100% of objects... that'll come later).
It's irritatingly tricky at times. Fun stuff! :)

Did you find all the stars? One of them takes 2 hours of waiting.
At first I wasn't even aware that there were stars to collect, although I probably won't bother trying to collect them because of that 2 hour star (that and I'd need to make a new save file for the one in the house, although that's not really a problem).
Also, I just discovered today that you can access the level editor (http://braid-game.com/news/?p=576) in the PC version. Start with the launch parameter -editor, and then press F11 in game.

Just a random heads-up: De Blob (the Wii game) is very, very awesome. Brilliantly well presented with controls that work well with plenty of opportuinity to be stylish. Some bad camera moments exist, but they are rare.
The best thing about all of it though is the music. For those who don't know, the game uses this technology that has a really complicated name (it's called "Synthesysthia" or something like that but I don't exactly remember) which allows the game's music to morph, completely dynamicly, based on what is occuring in the gameplay. The music gains intensity as the game's pace rises (and when your scores are rising) and the style of the music changes with the paint colour you are currently using as you paint with it. For example, using red gives the music a romantic jazz feel, using purple intiates some funky synth tones, using brown makes some dirty disc-scrathing rap noises, etc.
A good word of advice would be to play De Blob in chunks because it can get a little repetive when you play it for long ammounts of time.
dynamic music isn't new by a long shot. they may have more then the usual number of events that change the music though.

I never said dynamic music was new, I just said the perticular nature of the technology they used to create it was.

Sounds like they just slapped a name on a chunk of their code, Defcon and L4D off the top of my head both have similar tricks implemented.
Heh, indeed playing Defcon with the christmas mod showed quite clearly how bits of it worked. As you delivered lots of 'presents', jingle bells, or whatever was playing, slowed down and went all deep and sombre and the cheering (as opposed to explosions :P) was really slow. Totally ruined the atmosphere, but was pretty hilarious compared with playing it normally.
Its good music and adds great atmosphere... but it really isn't anything more technologically advanced than a Midi player.
In any case, I didn't try the final De Blob. I've played the initial version one though, before it got the support to be made into a full game. I presume it to be quite different to the impressive-looking-yet-rather-boring original.

You've misunderstood what I meant by my last post a bit.
It doesn't matter though really. All I wanted to say was that De Blob is excellent.
And yes, Plasma, it's probably a lot better than the version you've played I suspect, judging by the many many 80-95% scored reviews it got.

I've played Secret of Monkey Island enough that a new version with voice-acting doesn't appeal all that much (playing through for the nth time just to hear someone else's interpretation of the characters' voices doesn't seem all that worth it to me).

The Special Edition looks really nice. Although a remake is still just a remake, it fills me with glee. The art style really mimics the original well, the music is still nostalgically wonderful and they even got the MI3 voice actors.

I'm interested about that Microsoft "Milo" thing, and with that Natal camera thingummyjig too.it's INTERESTING, definitely, but you can't play games without a controller. even WITH headtracking to look around you need some way to move your feet. very VERY few types of games are going to work without some sort of control stick used for movement.
granted, the games that WILL work will work exceptionally well, but still.
the only problem I have with head tracking is that you need to turn your head to turn around in games and well, then you won't be looking at your TV anymore o_o

Meh. L4D was pretty expensive compared with most valve games, I'd at least expected an SDK so we could add extra maps ourselves if not official ones. I don't think I'll be buying L4D2 if it comes out before L4D has any more content.

Whatever they add, I'm sure it'll feel like an expansion. New characters, new maps, new weapons, it's all just tacking on the first (plus releasing it so early is spitting on the existing players, making L4D1 useless so soon). Unless you majorly alter the gameplay or wait long enough, it'll be an expansion-sequel. (although those are standard by now anyways :()
I understand they need to keep the money flowing, but what about HL2, their cash cow? Or is multiplayer just much sweeter to milk, what with L4D being an episode-sized full-price game?
Lots of people complaining about how they are releasing a sequel so soon and what not, saying it's not Valve like, but I say NUTS TO THEM! I don't think any of the content planned for L4D2 could be added via a patch.
I'm more concerned that they're finishing the game in just one year. Thats a rather short time for a game development on a franchise this popular.

Apparently, that's actually something kinda good...
The AI director seems to be more important now, and it can switch day times, weather, and even map design.
Maybe the daytime was the one being shown for now to test it. But you can't deny the ambient is still intact, with stuff like having to run to turn an alarm off through a narrow corridor, only to find a swarm of infected turning in front of you. Not to mention small modifications to old infected...
Heard about the wandering witch?
Yeah, I was reading all about it. It does sound good (except for the daylight, that just looks pants). But it also sounds like less than they've done to TF2, and they did that for free. It seems very odd indeed.
My hope is they'll only charge for the xbox version and make L4D2 on steam purely a mega-patch, but it seems doubtful :(

New Rockstar-developed game Agent, exclusive for PS3, set in the world of espionage and assassin's in the 70's. No footage was shown tho.
Assasin's Creed looks gorgeous, but I really couldn't get into the first game, don't know if the second one will be any better gameplay wise. They are giving you more tools and stuff to play around with, including Davinci's flying machine. It looks cool.
More FFXIII footage, looks gorgeous freakin gorgeous.
FINAL FANTASY XIV FOOTAGE! PS3 exclusive. :O Launches in 2010, after FFXIII. :O
Playstation Motion Controller! It's pretty much a wiimote except the camera is on top of the tv instead of the controller, which makes it a lot better. (think Johnny Lee's Wiimote experiments.) The controller looks stupid, but it's just a prototype. It has 1:1 motion tracking, and it looks like it's capable of more than the Wiimote + Motion Plus, not to mention the PS3 hardware allows for a lot of more cool stuff than the wii is capable of. All of the examples they showed looked actually fun, more so than Microsofts Project Natal examples. Launches in spring 2010.

Mod Nation Racers, racing game where you can customize everything, including your vehicle and driver. Cartoony looking yet really cool graphics. Think LBP level customization, except it's a racing game. Mario Kart type racer. The track editor is really easy to use and looks gorgeous. Really versatile too. You can upload and download tracks, and even remix tracks you've downloaded. Out in 2010.
New ICO game footage! Called The Last Guardian. It's the same video that leaked a few weeks ago, although it looks better... actually it has a bit of extra footage. Looks really cool.
Gran Turismo 5 preview now, it seems like it features car damage now.
God of War III live demo! Final game in the series they say. Kicks serious ASS. March 2010.
Aaaand that's all. I have to say, in my opinion, Sony takes the cake this year. Project Natal might be more technically impressive, but I think it's application in gaming is not going to surpass that of gimmicky games. I can't see it being used in your average hardcore game much, or even at all. Sony's motion controller, being more like it's Wii counterpart, is much more likely to make it into more serious games.
Wow, geez; huge lineups for Nintendo and Sony there! Pity the same couldn't be said for the other companies...

OK, since Sony is taking the way Nintendo should have taken loong ago, I think I'm inclined towards Sony now. Customization is what I love in a game, and that Kart game (even if a ripoff of Mario Kart) has all I wanted in a racing game. Add LBP, and that's my style. However, I still love original games like Smash Bros or Mario Galaxy... Dunno what I'll decide in the long run.

However, I still love original games like Smash Bros or Mario Galaxy... Dunno what I'll decide in the long run.got to say I agree. Sony has taken up Nintendo's old mantle of good, pure, fun. Sony is losing some of its bigger franchise exclusivity but it's gaining a world of customizable interactive neat-as-hell games instead. with the advent of motion controller they have everything nintendo has and everything nintendo doesn't as well. the only things missing are Mario and Zelda, but I'll take SackBoy and Ico as my replacements and smile while doing it.
if nintendo want to give us the finger, I'm more than happy to give them two right back.
still looking forward to galaxy 2, though, seeing as I already HAVE the wii.

The track creator for MNR looks incredibly awesome. And the airstrike styled looking missiles fired off at the end of the presentation seen in this video looks wonderful.

My hope is they'll only charge for the xbox version and make L4D2 on steam purely a mega-patch, but it seems doubtful :(not likely, but I could see L4D2 being $20-$30 fairly easily.
I like all the new additions but I REALLY would've prefered it if they'd just called it DLC and charged me 10-20 for it and been done. putting the 2 and giving us charmless new characters is just annoying.

The New Super Mario Bros Wii graphics look like the DS game's graphics in higher res with some shader effects applied on certain objects. However, the gameplay looks pretty solid and with so many secrets to find, it looks like the sort of game that will have tremendous replay value, like the DS game did. Also, they brought back horribly awesome theme tune from the DS game too, which is always a plus for me.
Do do-do-do, do-do, do-doooo... do do-do-do, dee-dee do-doooo
Super Mario Galaxy 2 looks like piles of awesome. It'll be hard to get that "packed with new ideas on every level" factor that the original Super Mario Galaxy had but I hope they at least suceed in some way. With so many innovative ideas and such varied gameplay, the original Super Mario Galaxy set the bar pretty high. I also hope they make the levels less linear than they were in the original Super Mario Galaxy (which was about the only thing not to like about the entire game, probably) although, judging by that trailer and it's screenshots, the levels look a lot more wide open so it looks like it could all happen. Only time can tell for now.

There's been rumors about a PS3 slim being in production. Some people say it will be announced summer this year, along with a price cut for the fat PS3, so that might be worth waiting for.

Why do they have to be so judgemental? Just because it's slim doesn't mean it's better, fat PS3s need love too. :(
I still have my fat PS2 and I still love it very much. <3
Me too. It doesn't read PS1 discs anymore but I think a new (or maybe cleaned) laser would fix that.
The only thing I like about the slim is the built in network adapter and IR receiver. I only like those because they're geeky-cool. :p
The only slim/lite/mini consoles I have are a mini-SNES, DS Lite and PSP Slim & Lite. Bigger console = bigger graphics, right?
people tell me how fragile the disc drive lid is on slim ps2's.

It is but all it needs to do is open and close under its own weight. I mean, you don't need steel plating for that sort of thing and your PS2 will still work with no lid (you'll just have to jam the catches so it thinks its lid is closed).
That's one good thing about the slimline, actually. You can easily mod it so it'll boot backup games using a boot disc. I modded a friend's while we were in a hotel. I found the instructions on my DS browser and took the PS2 apart with a penknife. I think we used Rizla to jam the catches. Easy :)
By the way, what's Splinter's console of choice? IF it's PS3 and you lot have been slating him for it... woooo mama, there'll be some noob bashing.

Well I never.
The PS3 is awesome. It's much better than the 360 and the Wii doesn't compare to either. I mean, the Wii is like bread and the PS3 is like ham. On their own they can stave off the hunger pangs but if you have both you can make a sandwich. The 360 is more like milk. It'll provide some nurishment but it's not a food and it doesn't go well with bread or ham. Unless you're making meatshakes.
I'm not trying to troll here, that's just my view. I get much more out of my PS3 than I would a 360 and that's because the PS3 does more of the things I want to do than the 360. The Wii barely does any but it's such a neat little device and it has some great games.

I'd disagree with that the Wii doesn't go well with a 360. I say that the Wii is a great compliment to any gaming system (including gaming PCs), while all the other systems don't mix well with each other at all.
Its also a good part of the reason as to why the Wii sells the most: there's three heavy systems (360, PS3, gaming PC) to choose from, but only one system like the Wii, and is very often the second system chosen by gamers.
My point was that the 360 goes with nothing. If you want 2 consoles, get a Wii and a PS3 and you'll never look back.
360 is already dying, in my opinion. It hit its peak a while ago and it's now becoming very meh. I mean, Natal looks like EyeToy but everyones getting really excited about it. It just shows how desperate MS fanboys are to say their console is the best.
And before a flame war ensues I'd like to point out that each of us is entitled to our own opinion. The above is my opinion and I've given it a fair bit of thought over the last couple of days.
Which console people say is dying seems to be changing every month now; its rather ridiculous. Come back to me after at least half a year of stale console-ness and I'll consider it.

But even the basic EyeToy was a very successful product though.
IMHO the 360 has been stale for at least a year. The NXE seemed like a desperate swipe at bringing the 360 inline with the PS3.
And yes, the EyeToy was successful but surely MS are once again chasing Sony. People go on about Natal as though it's the most amazing thing ever when it's old hat.

Hear this man speak the truth. However, seeing the games from long before me stick with my Wii.
However, that was before Little Big Planet, Mod Nation Racers, and possibly that motion sensor. I hope they make something good with it. This is the path Nintendo usually took before, but that's long forgotten now. I'll let them make a Nintendogs: Pitbull edition for all I care now. Tired enough of them.
Anyways, I'm not used to buying many games, so those two and maybe some other coming along should work.

That's exactly my opinion as well.
On a slightly different note, I don't want to come across to everyone as a Nintendo supporter by the way. I'm pretty neutral when it comes to consoles since my favourite gaming platform will always be the PC, no questions asked. I just tend to choose Nintendo consoles right now because they have the most to offer that interests me.
I would really like to get a PS3, but not until I find more reasons to get one other than for LittleBigPlanet. (I must admit that customisable karting game sounds good. I still play LEGO Racers for exactly that sort of thing, but something a little more advanced would be nice.)

I've been playing the long game
Wii is a console for adults that refuse to grow up and face real life consecuences.
Nintendo is basing their strategy on the fact that for every 2 confirmed gamers there's one person that would try games. That's a 33% profit they're trying to achieve by making games for these gaming initiates. That's one buck for every two bucks. Funny thing is, when they introduce these newbies into gaming through bull**** like wii fit, or whatever, these people will evolve, they'll get into gaming and have real gaming needs and that's when they'll buy a PS3 and Sony will laugh.
And somewhere, because of this, beyond the realm of human though, Miyamoto will shed a tear.
Obviously, there's still people that enjoy Wii games, and will most likely buy the new super mario bros game even though they have no friends to play cooperative mode with, and even though it's probably not as fun as playing super mario bros 3 10 years ago on a super famicon. But they don't care, because playing Mario makes them feel alive. Because when they were children, before they had to deal with real life issues, they used to play Mario, and the feeling of nostalgia they get today from playing it makes them forget about real life consecuences they face today, like being a nintendo loser.

I dunno, I eat bread and milk together all the time, occasionally with ham as well.
I don't play on the Wii much any more, but then historically I've always been a PC and handheld gamer (even my Mega Drive was a cartridge slot in the dual-purpose Amstrad Mega PC, while the PSone blurred the boundary between console and handheld, especially once I got the flip-top screen for it), so it's not that surprising that the Wii occupies "third slot" behind my laptop and my DS. Excite Truck and Wario Land: The Shake Dimension are the two Wii games that have captivatied me the most, thanks to both their sense of anarchic fun and their smooth learning curves.
In the meantime though, I'll just stick with my PC and Team Fortress 2 and Plants vs. Zombies and SimCity 4 Rush Hour/NAM and Pangya! and Civ 4 BTS and Psychonauts and Worms "finally installed it on this machine" Armageddon and Sam & Max and Monkey Island and Command & Conquer and Cannon Fodder and...

No problem. I'm sure if Ferrari started focusing their precious time in developing forum avatars you would probably not care much.
But I buy a Ferrari every month biatch
Wii is a console for adults that refuse to grow up and face real life consecuences.
I'd go along with that. That's why I play games in the first place - I don't have to think about all the crap that hinders my enjoyment of life such as bills, taxes, law and so on. It's escapism. Personally I like the escapism gaming offers me and finding a game I enjoy doesn't necessarily depend on the platform it runs on.
Outside of gaming I have to deal with all the other ****. It's probably why I don't like micro-payments, resource management or subscriptions in games; they remind me of real life too much.
I don't think any of that has anything to do with the Wii. It's true for all consoles. Of course, escapism isn't the only reason I play games but it's the one we're discussing right now.
Some people argue that the Wii is a casual gaming only platform. I argue that fun is fun, whether it's 'hardcore' gaming or not.
You know what grinds my gears? People that play casual games in the Wii and then go to forums to discuss strategies, tips, hints and WHO KNOWS.
It's like they're trying to hide they're casuals (another word for noob), IT MAKES ME SICK.
It's like they're trying to hide they're casuals (another word for noob), IT MAKES ME SICK.
Uh. What's wrong with playing games casually? They're for entertainment, after all.

It's like they're trying to hide they're casuals (another word for noob), IT MAKES ME SICK.
I guess it's part of the transition from noob to pro; the communities which surround games are an important part of gaming culture. That these people participate in such activities is a good thing, in my opinion.
It's a shame that the Wii isn't so well equipped for communication.
Wii is a console for adults that refuse to grow up and face real life consecuences.
But then again, you could say that about the PS3... and the Xbox 360... ...and every console that has ever existed, come to think of it.
Geezus;
Right, guys, how many times do we have to go over this: do not, under any circumstances, reply to Yakuza! I mean, its pretty much the only golden rule of this thread but you still manage to screw it up!
In actual matters, I only properly went over Natal now. The tech looks brilliant, and I'll take their word for it that it does work, but it seems a little... late in the console's life. That, along with the fact that it's a non-required tool, means that I really don't expect this to be appearing in a lot of games, unfortunately.
It has a good likelyhood of taking off in the next generation of consoles though!
I love how you try to personalize forum interaction by addressing lots of people as if they were actually listening to you.

People post strategies on a game? Well, that's fantastic. They post strategies of a game you don't like, ignore them. You see someone refering other people as inferior? You can, too, ignore it.
The internet is a pit where anything goes in. If you really don't like it, it's not like you have to stay.
With that being said, let the fools that believe they are GODLY because they know how to pass stage 1-1 on the original Mario Bros, there's no harm with them living in their own bubble, and also let be those korean people in Counter-Strike that can kill you instantly in one shot with seconds of the round starting, they are happy playing with other people so good that it becomes automatic.
But in the end, it's all about having fun. And what's odd is that people often forget that. Don't make such a big deal, people.
So anyway; Wii Zelda.
Apparently, the most popular theory is that the new character is actually a personified Master Sword. And in fairness, that's what I'm making my bets on too.

I would like to note that the 360 is nowhere near dying yet. It's still selling strong, still has plenty of exclusives, and plenty of multi-platform titles to look forward to. And it is a pretty good companion to the Wii, tyvm.
Also project Natal is actually quite different from the EyeToy. It's not just a camera with a mic, it's an RGB camera coupled with a depth sensor, which makes it capable of tracking your movements in 3d, it has a multi-array microphone, and it's own built-in processor. It's capable of a lot more than the EyeToy is.
That said, I like Sony's motion controls more, but I just wanted to point out that it's not just a glorified EyeToy. :p

When testing Just Cause I was able to skydive infinitely using their buggy physics. Dead Rising had hundreds of objects with which to smash zombies up but they all fell into one of a handful of categories. Hitting the dead with a bat was still less fun than hitting them with a parasol.

I've downloaded the demo and it looks pretty awesome

This is perhaps the game's greatest flaw in my view. I really dislike the style of play of the battlefield games. I much prefer objective style games where you have to blow stuff up or escort something (with the other team stopping you).

I can't think of any reasonable argument against that.
Have you played Battlefield: Bad Company? I've never been hugely into shooters but I think I got disheartened by all the corridors. Bad Company probably isn't the best example of a good shooter but it's the one without corridors which I tried first.
Anyway, it has objectives and stuff.
Something's not right with the UT games, but I can't say what. I just never got into them.
I always found the way that staying alive longer lets you get the good guns more, giving you an even more unfair advantage, to be my gripe against the game.
If the weapons were more balanced, it wouldn't be such a problem.

The battlefield games were always, to my recollection, either open space or using buildings as cover, with all objectives being "capture as many points as you can while defending your own".

On an unrelated note: I recently just spent my deposit return from college on Necrovision, Red Alert 3 and Assassin's Creed (AC was only to get meet the offer for Necrovision and it looked like a bit of fun).
The best thing I can say about RA3, is the music that first plays on the menu is hilarious - cracks me up every time.
Actually:This is a completely original concept (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQPSrkmkeqw&feature=related)
I looked into that a bit more. After a while, I came to this conclusion:
The developers started making the game. A Third-Person-Shooter, Korean style. Then, TeamFortress2 came out. The developers liked it, saw the similarity (they're both cartoony team shoot-em-ups), and incorporated two things into theirs: a bat as a melee weapon, and the grenade launcher, and kept it at that. That in itself isn't a cause for a call to arms for sell-offery, because the actual weapons weren't original themselves (the TF2 grenade launcher was based off of Quake1). Then, they made the trailer: they decided to make a shout-out to TF2 here as well by having the chosen-to-follow rocketeer be the model with the WW2 hat, and the one with the grenade launcher use the one eyed model (the actual game doesn't have classes or set characters). This... ended up crossing the line, making what should be a regular game with a few borrowed ideas look like an absolute sell-out.
Having the invincibility turn the character blue could either be another thing taken from TF2, or it could be the set colour it turns the character anyway, since the canister was also blue. Or it could be an already-thought-of idea. Its hard to tell.

Cut them some slack, it's not like they can **** money.I was talking only in the cases where they offer the game for free, realize that it's popular and then start charging because they know they can make a good profit from it. if the product you're being charged for is the same as the product being given away, I see little reason to pay for it. if you're paying for future updates, then sure. I have no problem supporting future endeavors but paying for what you've already been given is just rather pointless (with the exception of donating/tipping for an exceptional job done).

The point is every indy developer that is successful and wants to make some money eventually releases an improved console version, because donations don't always cut it. Alien Hominid, N, Line Rider, World of Goo, Eets, that Castle Defense game, Cave Story, etc.
Whether it's different or not doesn't matter because it's not a sequel, most people with consoles wouldn't be able to try the PC version anyways and they reach a whole new market.
If you don't wanna pay, stick to the free version, it's not obsolete. But don't scold the developers for wanting to pay the bills.
World of Goo
That one doesn't really count. The original free game, Tower of Goo, was only the same in terms of the base system.

cam't play battlefield heroes, here is what I posted in the support forum:
I login in Battlefield heroes website in IE. I press Play Now. It launches the game. It updates etc and goes to the game screen. And then a window pops up telling me I need to create a hero to start playing. I press "ok" and it launches the BFH website in IE without my account logged in.
I use Vista 64b. I have the launcher (the executable) on admin mode and I've tried to launch IE on admin mode too and nothing works - since I assume it has something to do with permissions.
It's as if the launcher doesn't read my login information even though I have to be logged in to launch it from the website anyway.

will update shortly.
Update: The five foot drop ejcted the battery, the UMD and the memory card (which I can't find).
After plugging it in it will turn on for five seconds before switching itself off again.
Diagnosis: Broken.
Additional update: Turns out the sliding switch was broken, and unless I push it back down it stays in the on/off position and shuts down the console.
Further investigation reveals that none of the face buttons work anymore! With the sole exception of the analogue nub.
Final analysis: ****ed.

I don't know how much physical damage the wii might withhold, but the thing isn't as reliable as I would have expected. 6 months after I got mine I started getting those annoying flashing black pixels in certain areas of the screen, and it's slowly getting worse. I think if I used it more often it would have stopped working quite a while ago. :-/well it just goes to show how horrible the wii is for a nintendo system :-/

Yeah, unlike the cube I'd think twice about dropping my wii down the stairs.

Nope. :p
I'll probably eventually take it somewhere to have it fixed, but I doubt it'll be any official nintendo authorized place because there doesn't seem to be one anyone near where I live.

And there's the famous Gameboy that survived a live grenade.
No sweat for people living in the UK - unless you happen to be gaming from Midnight to 3AM...
in before beefeater's saying "see! I told you! Who needs valve, eh! GOG is always up etc etc"I did. :(
it's a nintendo product. gameboys have long been known to survive ridiculous conditions. I've heard of someone who's dropped theirs from a 3rd story hotel window onto concrete and gone down simply to pick it up. I've KNOWN someone who's gameboy was dropped and then crushed by their car in their driveway, and they simply retrieved it, battered and bruised though it was, and started playing again. hell, the wii remote can withstand 10,000 pounds of pressure according to reports from when it was released.
if nintendo ever went into the business of military hardware, Japan would become the world's most unstoppable superpower.
What about that Gameboy that was bombed and damaged in the Gulf War, completely burnt.. But still works? (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/29/45213997_5f277adc34.jpg)
