Didn't get much from that hurricane.I heard they overreacted pretty hilarious to the thing, though. evacuating a chunk of new york city and all. all for a category 2, which is really just a basic thunderstorm with slightly accelerated winds.

I don't know if they overreacted. It's just really hard to predict exactly how hard it will hit. If the storm is 2 degrees off what they predictrd that makes a big difference. According to the newspaper this morning some people were disapointed with the hurricane because they had prepared so well :s

I've literally had thunderstorms worse than a cat 2 hurricane. hurricane's just last longer.

a couple points. first, they had no way of knowing that it would be a category 2 hurricane by the time it hit new york. if it had been stronger, there could have been major flooding and evac issues if they hadn't already evacuated earlier. secondly, new york is not prepared to deal with hurricanes in the same way as cities near the gulf, because it is normally not a concern. same reason that when that moderate blizzard hit washington dc last year, everything shut down, while a similar storm in minnesota would be seen as business as usual.

So! I guess I'm going on a date tomorrow night. Like, an actual date, with a girl, like other human heterosexual males apparently do sometimes. That's pretty neat!

I have to drive a little over an hour to get to the location, but we're gonna eat stuff and do bowling (in which she will thoroughly devastate me, I have no doubt) and then catch Real Steel. Whee!

Hit a strike, then immediately stumble into the gutter and break your ankle.
Then exclaim: "Oh no, I will never be able to bowl again!"

Or you could go for a Tom & Jerry style bowling accident:

I now hate Physics. Like, really really hate.
I half failed the Physics half of my course last year but did pretty well in the Maths half given the little amount of revision time I left my self.
So I've decided to do as many Maths modules as I can for, what is now, my final year whilst taking the bare minimum of Physics modules; unusual for a Maths&Physics student.
On the upside to getting downgraded from a four year Master's to a three year Bachelor's degree, you get a lot more choice in the third year and I never need do a physics project.

MrBunsy
13 Oct 2011, 14:58
Fair reason I suppose.

I found any maths modules I've done at uni have got more and more abstract and less and less interesting. Numerical methods is the only exception and I'm not even sure that counts as maths.

Does that mean you graduate this coming year?

Alien King
13 Oct 2011, 15:12

And I have the opposite problem; the more and more abstract the Maths I study gets the less and less interesting everything else becomes.

So Payday got released on PC yesterday!! It was also released on PSN in the US two days before that. The response has been great, reading peoples comments on the Steam forums really makes all the hard work worth it. A few days ago the forums were raging over the delayed release (we were supposed to release Oct 4), and people made up all kinds of weird things to get angry about. Like somebody raging and telling people not to buy it because it doesn't have ragdolls (which we do), or that Sony had delayed the game just to get more money from pre-orders. Genius! And for the past couple of months practically everybody on the internet 'knew' that Payday was a Source mod. Heheh, but what do you expect from the internet?

Also, 8.0 on gametrailers.com! Now I wouldn't mind going into hibernation until spring ;)

KRD
2 Feb 2012, 20:53
I think it's a technical marvel, but in tennis at least, implementing it in the bigger tournaments certainly made opinions clash. I guess that's in part down to the rules surrounding its use, but among the players I like, there's a few that aren't too happy to have to rely on it for other reasons as well, most notably Federer here. :(

This sums up my personal doubts pretty well (especially the bit about unchallengeable truth):

In 2008, an article in a peer-reviewed journal[25] consolidated many of these doubts. The authors acknowledged the value of the system, but noted that it was probably fallible, and that its failure to depict a margin of error gave a spuriously accurate depiction of events. The authors also argued that the probable limits to its accuracy were not acknowledged by players, officials, commentators or spectators, who treated it as depicting unchallengeable truth. For instance, they argued that Hawk-Eye may struggle with predicting the curved trajectory of a cricket ball after bouncing: the time between a ball bouncing and striking the batsman may be too short to generate the three frames (at least) needed to plot a curve accurately. The article also argued that Hawk-Eye's depiction of line decisions in tennis ignored such factors as the distortion of the ball on bouncing and the less-than-complete precision with which the lines on the court are drawn. The makers of Hawk-Eye strongly attacked many of these claims, but the authors have not withdrawn them.

Npm.

MrBunsy

You think 'Xinos' was dumb? I can't even imagine how I thought 'Alien King' was a good idea!
And 'Xenomortis' is pretty stupid too (handle I've used for a while now), but I've gotten used to being called Xeno on ventrilo and such and I can't imagine being called anything else now...

Hi. I'm SargeMcCluck. >_>

Although since I started WoW many moons ago, I've gone by Lokar. I like it. Although many other people do too, as I can't use it when signing up anywhere anymore. I generally take Lokarta instead, in that case.

Pch, I've been using this nickname since I witnessed the invention of this thing called internets many centuries ago. It means jack all, makes absolutely no sense and nobody in their right mind would use it. Perfect.

Been a while since I said it, but Zero is the John Smith of the internet.

And I'm named after a Mega Man character.

But could have been named after practically anything.

Or just have no imagination.

Which I guess is a lot of why I usually go by Zeor now, since pretty much everybody was just calling me that full-time anyway. It means approximately nothing and a lot of people mispronounce it. It's great. And I don't usually have to put a numeral after it.

In the event that it is taken already, I sometimes tack Dangerpants (http://steamcommunity.com/id/zeordangerpants) on the end.

I came up with my username many years ago when windows 95 was new and exciting. My dad was setting up individual login profile for everyone in the family, and he asked what name I wanted.

I said 'Phill B'.

I have no earthly clue why I chose to go by 'Mr. Bantry' on a couple of sites. Although I liked the Mister so I generally use 'Mr. Phillby' these days.

You are all the guys filling up my Steam friends list! :D

I was nicknamed by friend after this infamous creature of the 1990s:
http://i.imgur.com/mou46.gif
"Your best friend on the internet!" HAHAHA!

The other name I use most often is globefish23.
Pretty good, since most English speaking people would call the tetraodontidae family of fish "blowfish" or "puffer fish", but rarely globefish.
And adding '23' makes it most definitely unique.

As much as I have periodically wondered what else I would have named myself, I'm still alright with Zero/Zeor. :p I don't like numerals anymore though.

Dell sent me a new monitor today. It's a slightly newer model which I guess that's good. But it doesn't look as cool! I'm supposed to put my old monitor back in the new box this one came with, but it proving to be very difficult. I don't know what kind of black magic they used to pack this thing.

Took a trip to the Los Angeles area this past weekend in order to check out CalArts during an accepted student event.

The school looks absolutely fantastic. The student work far exceeds anything from the other colleges I've looked into attending, and I've looked at some BIG names. The hallways were lined with job opportunities for illustrators of every kind, and we were warned during the talks with faculty that we could well get offered jobs far advance of graduation, but that we should ensure we do indeed graduate. The fact that they actually warned of that speaks volumes to me.

I'm still not sure how I'm going to afford it, but I am NOT letting this slip through my fingers! I am so freakin stoked!

So I moved into my new apartment last Friday. Woot! The previous owner took down the wall that separated the small kitchen and the living room, making it one bigger room instead (it's apparently called a studio apartment). But I guess that's fine.. I prefer having more than four walls, but I can't really argue with the price and location right now. I will live like a student my whole life . My travel time has been reduced from two hours a day to one, which was an instant win.

Also, Overkill got acquired by Starbreeze today! I could not have guessed that would happen when I got up this morning. But the best part is that we do not have to move anywhere and it should be business as usual. Actually the best part will be getting a Starbreeze hoodie.

Edit: Boring details

Wait, you work for Overkill? I can't recall if you mentioned it before and only now did I connected the dots because I'm a derp, because I can't find any reference to it before, but either way that sounds pretty cool.

Heh, Heat Streat is tough. I won't take any responsibility for what the level designers do, but I'll be glad to pass that comment on to Jochum :p. I think the problem with that level is how open it is. The game works best in corridors and small spaces. I also think the AI is too good at spotting parts of you sticking out from behind cover, making open areas extra unfair.

I've mostly made comments about Payday during last E3 and when we released. When I got the job (an internship at the time) the company didn't have a name yet except for the temporary name "Super Sledge". Seven Figures was also a possibility.

But anyway - today's my birthday, and to celebrate Dave released a new publicity shot for Red Dwarf X (http://ganymede.tv/atspeed/2012/04/first-publicity-shot-released), and Howard Goodall revealed he's working on the score to the series, too (http://ganymede.tv/atspeed/2012/04/howard-goodall-composing-rdx). CURSES!

In which case I'm going to travel back in time to apply for the beta for Worms: The Director's Cut. Maybe I'll catch some of the bugs Andy missed (http://worms2d.info/Tricks_and_glitches_(First_generation)).

Along similar lines, Andy just revealed that his personal build of WormsDC is all the way up to v1.5. The current and, to date, only patch for the game takes it up to v1.05.

There are more fixes, and there is new stuff.

I may weep openly.

How about convincing him to join in on that upcoming streaming session of yours, showing of the new features of his 1.5 build?
Also, I want that 1.5 build.

I'd already sent him a message asking if he'd be interested in joining in via Skype for a Q&A session. No response yet. I doubt I'd get v1.5 before the weekend, so the stream will have to make do with v1.05.

bonz
16 May 2012, 22:14
I wonder if Andy would get a green light from T17 to host the v1.5 version on Dream17.
Surely, an update for a 15 year old Amiga version of Worms couldn't possibly conflict with the upcoming Worms Revolution, could it?

Squirminator2k
16 May 2012, 22:15
Well, we still have v1.00 and v1.05. I can't see Team17 complaining about us hosting a v1.5 patch disk, though I've been wrong before.

Ultimately it depends on whether Andy's willing to release it or not, which is entirely his call. I have, of course, been politely pestering him for the better part of four years to release his latest build to me, though in fairness I only started because he told me he was going to in the first place. :)
