Swinging the sword or holding two guns out straight ahead and blasting away? The point of those games is that it looks stylish.

The point of those games is that it looks stylish.yeah, I was familiar enough to catch that he mostly uses the guns and that the game is rather flashy and such, so I was planning to include those 2 things anyway. that's just the extent of my knowledge.
I assume then that he doesn't really have a distinguishing move and that it'll look fine so long as he's doing something flashy then?

I think I've just had the weirdest dream ever. I don't usually remember everything, and know that I haven't, but here are the bits that do:
Firstly it turned out my house was actually an old castle and somehow I could see from a point miles into the sky so that I could see my house and Oxford, which would have to be very high. I could also zoom in. Anyway, then I zoomed into my hometown and it morphed into a TrackMania map.
Then onto the weirder second part, which involved Team17. Not exactly sure what was going on beforehand, but me, Paul and AK ended up in some sort of game... seemed like an FPS. We ended up shooting people and the ultimate goal was to kill some bacteria on a slide (as in glass slide used in experiments), while killing the enemies along the way. Anyway I think I was running low on bullets and the enemies for some reason held up the slide and I shot it. The bacteria sprayed off it, oddly not shattering the slide with my bullet and killing the person behind it. Then Paul went and cleaned the toilets and left post-it notes on them saying "Team17 cleaned the toilets". Then we went out side and everyone was sitting around on the grass... that's about all I can remember.
There is a dream thread you know..
But that's not too bad of a dream, last Sunday I was subdeviding polygons in my head all night. Worst dream in a long time.

I think I've perfected the art of slipstreaming and then flying past BMX bikes on the steep hills around Loughborough campus. 27-speed mountain bike versus single-speed BMX - no match :D (my bike will happily cruise at around 20mph with a top speed on the flat of around 25 - I find BMX bikes struggle to reach 15mph downhill.)
People who use BMX bikes to cycle between lectures (Lufbra is a heck of a big campus for a single-campus university) are truly the worst kinds of cyclists. Their gear doesn't give them enough speed to cycle properly on the flat, so they look like idiots standing up to pedal (since BMX bikes have pathetically short seatposts), and then look even worse when they get tired so sit back down on the saddle and have their knees up under their chins. Then, it's even worse when they reach one of the many hills as their gear is the other end of useless and isn't good enough to get them up the hill without a lot of tiring pedalling.

Mostly I can't ride a bike because my sense of balance is ropey. Same basic problem with heights.
The most I can swim is 25 metres, and that was when I was about 11 and had regular experience of swimming. If I try to do breaststroke I basically end up swimming on the spot. Backstroke is nice and leisurely, but I inevitably end up going in circles and running into other people - or cracking my head on the side of the pool. Front crawl I'm OK at, but I drink too much pool water and tend to succumb to exhaustion. Don't ask about butterfly.
I can also swim, but only if you count "flailing around hopelessy for a width of the pool until I drown" as swimming. That sounds more like me. I think last time I tried, I was able to perform some sort of improvised imitation breaststroke thing, which did actually help me move forward slightly.

Can't remember when I started to swim. I wasn't great at it, but it's just something that everyone does at some point.
As for cycling, I learnt to ride quite young. Even though my brother is 2 years older, I've always seen us as equals. So when he got his first bike, I insisted it was unfair that I didn't get one, and got to ride it. I think I would've been about 4.

About swimming:
I can swim fairly good. Started at a very young age of about 3 or 4. That was even before I could ride a bike.
I even was in a swimming club for about a year, when I was 14. I won 3rd place in that year's internal championship - against the only two other boys that is. :)
I can also do a lane of butterfly.
I hate swimming in salt water because swallowing to much of it can get me nauseous. Also because I have swallowed unidentified, solid particles on more than one occasion in the ocean.
About bikes:
I wish I had my old BMX bike back that I had when I was 7 years old.
It was awesome with it's black foam-padded protectors on the handlebar and the frame bar with "BMX" printed on them.
That was well before the mountain bike craze that started in the late 1980s and early 1990s. :-/

Yes, we tied the rope to the bike so we could pull it out easily.
After the first attempt we realized that the bike was considerably heavier when the frame was filled with water, which made it more difficult to pull out while swimming/diving.
We didn't jump of the bike. We landed in the water sitting on it.
Another problem we had was that the small pier didn't reach to the shore and we had to use a plank to cover the approximately 1 meter gap.
IIRC, one of use hurt his shins when the plank slipped away he smashed into the edge of the pier. :p

Do you want another discussion about the pronunciation of "scones"? :pNo point. Anyone sane knows it rhymes with 'gone' :p
Trouble is, people these days (especially people who are young and from the south) take spelling and pronunciation too literally, often thinking the pronunciation stems from the spelling of a word. In fact, the pronunciation determines the spelling, because historically people spoke words before they could write, and many never learnt. I find a lot of people saying "It's like 'cone' with an 's' in front so it has to be pronounced to rhyme with it", which is false logic. English doesn't work like that. I don't make 'monkey' and 'donkey' rhyme. I also don't say 'mouses' or 'hice'.

Guess what? Saying something in a moronic way doesn't actually make the thing you're saying moronic.
As far as I can see the moronic ones are things like "36. You have an iPod or an iPhone, guess what no problem. They work on Windows too!" which, like #40, is not a reason to switch; it's simply not a reason not to, and "8. Microsoft Office." -- MS Office is ****. It's slow, crashes a lot, insecure, bloated, makes huge files, has crap HTML support, and uses dodgy non-standard file formats (albeit ones adopted as de-facto standards). Excel has its (limited) uses, and Powerpoint is pretty good, but Word is just awful.
Well, okay. Maybe Office is basically pretty good, but compare its pricetag to that of OpenOffice.org and then compare what the two actually do, and there's no competition. The only people who need the extra features of Word over Writer should be using LaTeX anyway.
And point 27 is just stupid.
But a second button on a mouse is useful, or at least preferable, for many users -- not least for lightning fast mouse gestures in Opera.

I adore that that thread starts with "Why does the velociraptor have feathers?"
Dang. that would be because I forgot to copy the first post, so one half of it could stay in this thread and the other could be put in that new one.
Oh well.

Mostly because AFAIC it's a much better game, but there we go :p.

As Far As I Crap.

You know, normal people don't instinctively know what "TT" means.
Transport Tycoon for anyone normal out there. Good ones, Sup. Make them happen!

How did he do it? Like, what combos do you do to get in the multi-million range? Do you focus on the exporter, stunts, just killing raptors, what? I'm just wondering how they do that, because there's so much more to it than just linearly getting a high score, y'know?

I'd hate to be normal, I'd miss out on a lot of fun stuff.
But yeah, Transport Tycoon (specifically OpenTTD, at least in respect of the canals).
You know, a ship canal improvement would be great in Civilization - you could have a square that both land and naval units could travel on. And you could build Panama Canal-like things so that ships don't have to go all the way around big continents...

that is a fantastic idea, you should see if there's some way to suggest it to the developers

he told me that he just did a whole bunch of really far jumps and teleported a bunch of live raptors
i've yet to actually watch him play it

Why is this (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=28037) thread still a sticky?

Because you can't set an expiry date on sticky threads, and because nobody goes in that forum to see it.

That's a problem for me then.
Total Commander is a rather good file manager.. better than Explorer in any case. I especially like it's queve'ing function for when you copy or move files.. explorer will just start coppying files simultaniously which sucks..

It also sounds like a strange amalgam of Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander.

Pizza's usually salty, and pineapple balances it nicely.

Ham and Pepperoni with Extra Cheese.
I also hate Pineapple on a Pizza, I think it's an unnatural combination. :p
