eh, not bad. not my cup of tea though.Yeah, it's one of those songs where you have to pay attention to the lyrics, as the song, though very "Everything Sounds Like Coldplay Now" in its style, has a very positive message, viz. "don't let the *******s grind you down because you're different, because the people who matter are the ones who really care about you".

It's also quite different from a lot of Feeling stuff anyway, which can basically be described as "cheesy pop, but cheesy pop that tries clever and different stuff". Good band on the whole.

It's also quite different from a lot of Feeling stuff anyway, which can basically be described as "cheesy pop, but cheesy pop that tries clever and different stuff". Good band on the whole.I normally listen to the music primarily and then catch the meanings of the lyrics afterwards. the more meaningful the lyrics the better the song in most cases, but if its a crap song with awesome lyrics its still a crap song :p (and if its a good song with crappy lyrics I'll generally listen to it for about a minute or 2 before I realize how god-aweful the lyrics are. for example: any song by simple plan. I like the music well enough to listen to it if its on, but the lyrics to all their songs are so completely crap that I'd rather take a bullet than sit through a whole song).

that was definitely a very coldplay sort of sound, and coldplay aren't really my thing (don't get me wrong, they're good, I just won't be buying any of their CDs), so I didn't really listen to the lyrics closely (granted, I did get the gist of it, just didn't pay close attention).

Yes, that's Thom Yorke singing. Sorry. From the look of it, they're rather different songs. Mitch Benn's song is about what would happen if, in our bid to create new, non-clichéd metaphors for use in love songs, we ended up using some rather unpleasant ones - and then set it all to a guitar rock backing.

# Well I remember baby when I saw your face /
I just couldn't move, I was stuck in my place /
Like I was standing in a bog, too sticky just to walk out of /
You walked up to me like you had something to say /
I could see that you were trouble, but I couldn't walk away /
I'm just a rabbit in the headlights, rabbit in the headlights of your love /

Now baby I'm a junkie and you're my dealer /
I'm a hedgehog, you're an eighteen-wheeler /
I'm a happy little bunny rabbit hoppin' around /
Baby, you're the eagle in Watership Down /

There's nothing I can do to get out of the way /
You're Vesuvius baby and I'm Pompeii /
I'm Tyson's head, you're Lennox's boxing glove /
The minute you turned your full beams on me /
I knew either way that I could never be free /
I'm just a rabbit in the headlights, rabbit in the headlights of your love /
I'm just a rabbit in the headlights, rabbit in the headlights of your love /
I'm just a rabbit in the headlights, rabbit in the headlights of your love! #

First impressions: to be honest, I don't think it's as half as good as "Twelve Stops And Home". Best bit so far is the bonus album with its arrangements of TS&H tracks (lol, Love It When You Call done as a chorale. Genius).

It's like they've tried to hard to be clever and lost out on the thing that made them really good: their tunes and the way they can convey real life situations in their lyrics. Oh well. Maybe it'll grow on me.

SPK's album Information Overload Unit. I've been trying out a bit of old school industrial lately, namely SPK and Throbbing Gristle. The acts that lean more towards the noise side of things rather than the electronica side. SPK got lost in making disco pop-ish stuff, but not before making some groundbreaking albums, particularly Leichenschrei. I've seen it called the greatest industrial record of all time, and my limited opinion agrees with that for now.

Well, Get Heavy didn't quite blast my socks through the wall like The Arockalypse did, but it's still pretty excellent, and I'll probably warm up to it more as I listen. The Arockalypse had a bit of a warm-up period to it, too, really.

I have their first album from X years ago. Are they still so... Formulaic? It seems like they tried not to, but most of their stuff really does sound the same after a while. I revise my comment to this post.

yes :p

I just picked up their new CD today and it's a pretty good CD but the songs blend together so much I just missed 9 of the 12 songs because I wasn't paying close enough attention to notice the difference :-/

I don't find their other CDs to be particularly formulaic (though I do see them following the same patterns to a lesser degree), but this one is just ridiculous.

I haven't been able to track that particular tune down, but some of their other stuff is rather interesting now that I've heard some more. As is their modus operandi. I think I may actually have heard them on KEXP before since they're very fond of the modern Oregonian musical culture there and I can't imagine not liking the sound. Well, having finally listened to Lordi's Deadache, my opinion on it looks a lot like my opinions for Get Heavy and The Arockalypse: Pretty darn good, and will probably get better as I listen more. If the album has any major flaw, it's just that The Arockalypse was too darn good, and they weren't quite able to top themselves. I think what it lacks is one big album-defining anthem of a song like the last two albums did in Blood Red Sandman and Hard Rock Hallelujah.

You do not understand. It does not matter if they are mainstream or not, or how often they are on the radio. It does not matter what they do at any point in the future. It does not matter if they all split up and join different bands and make completely different music. It does not matter if they got better or changed or threw every single copy of their old album into a giant furnace powered by the purest of darksteam and the foul Necrowombicon.

Lips.

Of A CTHULHUDAMNED.

Angel.

Angel. :mad:alright, alright. fair enough. but damn it this CD is good. they're sounding a bit like Aerosmith, to me (I said a bit, don't go all nazi on me). this shows good signs for the future in my book....maybe one day we can all just forget lips of an angel.

but seriously, have you heard the country version? it's even worse :p
