I finally uploaded a picture of where I'm currently at with the human.
It's not a great pic, no, mostly because that baggy coat covers up his arms and those slippers he got at the "miss-shapen slippers outlet", but it's more or less where I am now.
Heck, the last picture of a person I publicly posted onto the internet was this (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/34120952/?qo=12&q=by%3Apigbuster&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps). I've come a fair bit further since then.
And where is it supposed to say "advanced critique encouraged" on the page? I don't see it.
Hah, great urn. But at first I thought Philby drew the picture because of Gaara's face.

That looks like Philby's style?
I did think he had drawn it at first, before I remembered who's DA I was on and who had linked to the picture.
Just did a couple of MSN doodles I kind of liked, bearing in mind that they are still just MSN doodles...
At least I can still draw something other than Worms worth a quarter of a damn. :p
They looked better in MSN itself. Smoother lines. These were recovered from the .rtf log I saved.
I like doodling in msn. Ball-point pens on newspaper is great too. It's like I know thoose doodles won't be saved so there is no tension of having them turn out well, therefor they usually turn out very well. :p
It's odd how that works out, yeah. MSN doodles usually turn out looking cool in a nice and simple kind of way, and it's also just oddly fun to do it.
Hell, between Munkee and me, some of our best work is MSN doodling. :p

It happens once in a while. Don't assume everything i draw ends up like that... it's only about 10% that come out fairly well... most of the time it all ends abruptly with me tearing the paper in pieces and/or banging my head against the closest large and solid surface i can find.
Your pic is quite good, by the way. In case you're acepting criticism, i'd just try to add some more contrast. Under that light set you got there, it would be natural to have some reflexive areas, specially on the bald spots and glasses... but it's pretty damn good as it is. :)

Spiffy.
Though Some of the lines look off. For instance, the outline of the 'O' is cut off at the top.
I think it would look better if the red outlines of the letters are in a layer above the grey outlines of the blade thingys.
And I personally think that the points of the blade thingys should end at the same length. It makes the logo less symmetrical if one blade is bigger than the other.
Symmetry is good in a logo.

It is pretty cool. The only downside with not doing the drawing in Flash is imported bitmaps easily add up to the filesize, and you can't do any fancy effects on them without looking pixelized. You can always try using Trace Bitmap if your drawings are vector friendly.
I wouldn't suggest using shape tweens for effects. As you pointed out, they're pretty darn unpredictable, so you're better off with motion tweens.
philby4000
6 Feb 2007, 15:06
with the logo I wanted the blades and the 'Onkeshine' text to fan ou from behind the M and 'the movie' to fade in.
The blades turned them selves upsidedown, the outline of the red text moved completely independantly of the fill (which in places just apears out of nowhere) and the black text does a stange morphing motion.
yeah, I think I should stick with motion tweens.
SupSuper
6 Feb 2007, 15:30
Yeah, for fades it's easier to just use motion tweening with movie clips, then you get the Alpha and Tint effects for them. Plus you can use it on imported bitmaps.
Make sure to upload the video in 100% zoom later so your non flash pictures arn't too pixelated =P

Doesn't flash have an easier time moving big bitmaps because it doesn't have to keep drawing them every frame?
It's somewhat difficult to choose between using vectors and using bitmaps sometimes.
And you can make flash trace a bitmap so it appears exactly as it used to, but the processing time can be quite a bi-atch sometimes.
SupSuper

It's somewhat difficult to choose between using vectors and using bitmaps sometimes.Well I said size, not speed. But unless you use horrendously detailed vector graphics, I doubt there's a noticable difference in speed.
And you can make flash trace a bitmap so it appears exactly as it used to, but the processing time can be quite a bi-atch sometimes.Yeah, if you're gonna trace a highly-detailed bitmap into a highly-detailed vector, there's no gain. (besides making Flash crash :p) Simple graphics ala clipart (no smooth shading or anything) trace much better.

Last night after a conversation with Paul, Sup and Mad, I decided to try my hand at drawing some Jump Leads character art. As you may be aware, I've become a bit dispondant about my own drawings, but I thought I'd give it another go.
[This (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/50952067/)] is the end result. Drawn in pencil, "inked" using the "Freehand Select > Lasoo" tool in PSP7, and coloured in PSP7 as well. The shading is iffy though, and I invite anyone who wants the original lineart file to have a stab at colouring it themselves.

That's rather nice.
I think the wrinkles look a little strange, especially around the lower leg.
He seems to have "triangle thumbs". I can't remember if I told you this before, but...
Pretty much, we should see more of the thumb. Right now it ends in the middle of the hand, but it should end somewhere near the end of the fingers or something.
Err... I'll just post an example.
The one on the right is what I'm thinking of.

I've had many awesome ideas from dreams as well.
The trick is to remember them.
Which can be done by telling yourself "I will remember my dream when I wake up".
Also... WACOM TIME!
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/51628578/
I never get good ideas from dreames. You can get very detailed brilliant ideas, but as soon as you wake up you realize it could never work and it was all nonesense. Unless of course it's for a comic or something like that, but that's different from what I'm talking about ;P

My dreams are somewhat nonsensical too, but part of it is figuring out how to properly twist it into a comprehensible plot.
Dreams can give some rather original ideas. They're weird, but I like weird things.

But yeah boring pose and stuff. Maybe I should start over with a new pose... Just can't avoid getting the feel that it sucks.
edit: right now it can either be looking down at someone he just beat/killed, or looking down from atop a building. I'm leaning towards the later.
Waist is too thin, but other than that it looks good. Keep drawing him, do 5 a day for the rest of the year!

Someone help me choose, I suk at making decisions. Or maybe you can suggest something else. I want to do something cool, not just anything. I've taken too long to deliver that now it has to be awesome :p
A general rule for artists drawing for a custumer is too work on many versions simultaniously. So, do a bunch of sketches, pick your favorite five and make finnished drawings of them. Then hand in the best one (or all five, since they all will be awesome). Not that I ever have the energy to follow my own good advice
Edit: Sorry for whining, but first of all, his feet are extreamly close to his hands, which means he would have to be bending backwards like the letter U. So try to move them back. Also, I think you need to show more of his lower body, it can't be compleatly obscured by the shoulders like that. Example. (http://thefulcrum.blogspot.com/25-spiderman-inside.jpg)

Now...
Does the shading look fine?
Does the head look too big? I'm also wondering about the way the head is turning is probably a bit too unrealistic, maybe it should be tilted more to the right?
Also does the pattern on the suit look fine like that? It's not gonna be just black lines, it's gonna look more like in the movie, that it looks like plastic lines over the suit... I'm just asking about the direction of the lines and stuff.
Also about the eyes, do you think the size and shape is ok? Or should I make them smaller like in the movie?
All, any help is appreciated. Seriously.
Ah, I totally missed this before, but his neck is too thin. Necks are as wide as the head itself, and also, you put the base of the neck on the shoulders, when actually the neck is a linear extension of the back. ~ I'm not very good at explaining.
You should also try to define the chest a little, it looks so perfectly round.
As for the eyes, they don't look shaded at all. If the shading doesn't fit it won't look like their part of the same picture..

Thought I'd take a break from drawing my own stuff, and colour someone else's for a bit.
As a result, I have this picture (http://paulpower.deviantart.com/art/Collaboration-Starry-Queen-66097927) from this sketch (http://dark-elfa.deviantart.com/art/Starry-Queen-sketch-62195224) and this WIP (http://paulpower.deviantart.com/art/Forest-Queen-collab-W-I-P-66277024) from this sketch (http://dark-elfa.deviantart.com/art/Forest-Queen-sketch-62194835). I also intend to digitally colour this sketch (http://dark-elfa.deviantart.com/art/Icy-Queen-sketch-62194672) IN THE FUTURE.
Thoughts?

Yes, I'm a very wordy critic.

Of course, it always helps when you have a great source image.

Cheers.
I've finished Forest Queen now: http://paulpower.deviantart.com/art/Collaboration-Forest-Queen-66402775
EDIT: And a WIP of Icy Queen: http://paulpower.deviantart.com/art/Icy-Queen-Collab-WIP-66424073
We had a 1000 polygon (+/- 25) limit on making a car (no wheels).
I landed mine on 1012 :)
Edit: Ooh, I see they implemented an image resizer. Cool.

working on a 2 (renbb and me) (maybe 3, if nugget joins us)-way collab.
this is my contribution so far http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/7171/afbeelding3qg5.png
ganna start working on it saturday.
So we got 2 digital painters / designers and a photographer .
Originally this was going to be a wallpaper pack. But I couldn't pick colours while promising it would have "a sh!tload of sizes and colour variations".. So at first i decided to give the psd to nugget, since it was his birthday. But he insisted he couldn't accept it. So I took it to rennbb and decided this was the way to go.

So at work they gave us a paper with a puzzle piece shaped area in which we were asked to draw anything. And so I did this. Which pretty much depicts how I look like at work most of the time. Barring the weird figures making funny faces and the awesome cameo of El Cerdotado. Frankly work would be more awesome if those things were actually there. :p

Edit: Oh yeah apparently they are putting the pieces togheter and pasting them in the walls for all to see. But it appears mine hasn't been put there yet.

You're really connecting with customers now!
Though yeah, nice skills. You draw like a professional.

Now if only I got paid like a professional cartoonist.
Then I'd win half what I win now. ZIIIING!

Apparently they don't think it's that awesome. They haven't put it in the wall yet.
Or maybe I'm just being paranoid and they just haven't got around pasting all the entries there, but surely they would have finished after 2 days?
If I don't see it there tomorrow I'm going to... complain in a polite manner. Or vandalize the other entries. :p
edit: Oh and, judging from the other entries, it appears there's a bunch of 4 year olds working as customer service.
That picture is great! I hope their not so stupid that they refuse to put it up because it has a 'negative vibe'.

It's not there yet. Either they got more entries than they expected and just decided not to bother putting the rest there, or they indeed tought mine had a "negative vibe".
I don't give a rad's ass anyway. They're the ones missing out. :p

Super Hero! If the polylimit would have allowed it, he would be holding his primary weapon: The Rubber Chicken.
