How To Get Fiddler Working On Windows XP
1) Backup your Worms Armageddon team file (Worms Armageddon\User\Teams\wg.wgt)
2) Uninstall Worms Armageddon. No, I'm not (very) crazy, you will want two installations of Worms Armageddon - one with fiddler and silkworm, and one with DCs new betas for playing on WormNET.
3) Now install Worms Armageddon again, into C:\Team17\WA Fiddler (actually it can be anywhere, just make sure the directory name tells you it's the one that has Fiddler and Antisilk). Make the start menu folder Team17\WA Fiddler, so it doesn't get confused with the other install you'll do in a moment.
4) Load W:A. In the main menu, hover your mouse over the Worms Armageddon logo at the top. The version should appear down the bottom. If it doesn't, or the version is LESS THAN 3.0.0.0, you need to get the 3.0 patch from ftp://ftp.team17.com/pub/t17/patches/pc/WAPatch.exe, and install it. If it says 3.0.0.0 (or something to that effect), you don't need the patch. If it says 3.0.5.0, you must have the Trymedia version, which is incompatible with The Fiddler. Sorry, but it's just bad luck.
5) If you are not sure about what the registry is, exercize extreme caution - stuffing round with the registry is quite likely the easiest way to completely wreck Windows. If you are comfortable with editing the registry, you should be even more careful - arrogance is the key to mistakes.
I highly recommend you set a System Restore point or back up the registry before stuffing round with it. Go Start > Programs/All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Select "create a new restore point" and follow the prompts. If you're running a version of Windows without System Restore, or you don't want to go through that hassle, go into regedit (Start > Run > regedit.exe), go File > Export, and save the file somewhere that you remember where it is. Make sure "All" is selected under "Export range".
If you somehow manage to completely constipate your computer, you can restore the registry by either going (in regedit) File > Import, and importing the file you exported before; or simply browsing to the file you exported in Windows Explorer and double-clicking it.
Phew. Now that's done with:
Open Regedit (Start > Run > regedit.exe). In the left pane, browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team17SoftwareLTD\Worms Armageddon. On the right there should a string value called PATH, with the value of wherever you installed W:A to. Right-click this value, and select "rename". Rename it to FPTH. Close Regedit.
6) Now install Worms Armageddon again, into a different directory than the one before (the default one, C:\Team17\Worms Armageddon, will work fine). You can put DC's new betas on this, if you wish.
7) Download Fiddler 4 from ftp://ftp.team17.com/pub/t17/goodies/wa_fiddler40.exe. Open it, and tell it to install to C:\Team17\WA Fiddler (assuming that's were you installed the first Worms Armageddon, of course)
8) Download Antisilk from http://forum.team17.co.uk/attachment.php?attachmentid=19214
9) Unzip Silkworm.dll and Silkworm_patch.exe to C:\Team17\WA Fiddler. Execute Silkworm_patch.exe - It will automatically make a backup before patching. Note that it patches DXMfc.dll, not WA.EXE itself, in order to work on both the U.S. and European versions of the game.
10) If you don't have a hex editor already, download XVI32 from http://www.handshake.de/user/chmaas/delphi/download/xvi32.zip
11) Unzip XVI32.zip to C:\Program Files\XVI32 (or wherever you put your programs)
12) Open XVI32.exe, go to File > Open, go to C:\Team17\WA Fiddler\Fiddler, and select fiddler.exe. Click Open.
13) You should now see a heap of hexadecimal numbers on the left, and incomprehensible ASCII on the right.
Go Address > Goto, make sure 'Hexadecimal' is selected on the left, and 'Absolute' for the 'Go mode', and type 94C2B in the little box. Click OK. Click on the '30' that is selected on the left-hand side. In the status bar, it should say Adr. Hex: 94C2B. While this number is selected, type in 38. - it should change it.
14) Now, go to Address > Goto again, select 'Hexadecimal' and 'Absolute' if they are not already selected, and type 8909A. Click OK. Now, click on the 'P' that should be selected in the right-hand side. After it, there should be an 'A', then a 'T', and on the next line a 'H'. This is Fiddler looking for where Worms Armageddon is installed. As we want the version withFiddler and Silkworm, change the 'P' to an 'F', and the 'A' to a 'P'. Now Fiddler will look for the 'FPTH' registry value, which points to the W:A directory with Fiddler and Silkworm. This allows both versions of W:A to co-exist.
Go to File > Save, and save fiddler.exe
15) Now, go Start>Programs>Team17>WA Fiddler, and click Worms Armageddon. A box should come up; this is Silkworm. Check on "Fix Windows 2000/XP Mouse wheel bug". Click OK. Worms Armageddon should start. Now exit Worms Armageddon.
16) Start Fiddler, play around with settings or load someone else's Fiddle, click "GO", and W:A should start with fiddler! YAY!

so, i followed the instructions, like a good boy... and wa crashes after the silkworm splash/options...
(which incidentally doesn't show the options of which you speak in point 15).... some wa.icd
b0rked memory errornessnessness....
anyways... from the readme, i notice:
"If you are using the European version of Worms Armageddon, you will need to find
a copy of the USA WA.EXE and replace your current one with it. Otherwise it will
still not work under Windows 2000 or XP."
seriously?

No, of course not. He just wrote it in there for kicks.
guess that's why it is not working for me either... :-/
isn't there a thread called -->"the fiddler thread" (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=21439) already, which has exactly the same instructions & purpose? hm.. or is that due to that strange "don't resurrect old threads"-policy here on this forum?

The 'rule' is there to stop people posting idle replies to light converstations had a year ago. If you have something relevant and useful to say that warrants digging up a thread that's often better than posting a new one because it shows you've bothered to read some of the forum before asking and it shows you've already read the most obvious advice so people needn't type it out again (though someone inevitably does anyway). I remember when someone dug up an old "would worms work in 3D?" thread. That was lots of fun. But digging up a year old thread to say "i saw that show, it was rubbish" to someone who hasn't logged in for nine months is a waste of everyone's time.
Anyway, I did this because not many people were visiting the other thread, because it didn't have a good enough title.
Note: Actually, only press "Fix Mouse wheel bug in Win XP/2000" (That's off the top of my head). First post edited.
N.B. If it still don't work, try changing the water colour (in the demo file) from red to blue; some disks only have blue water.

hmmm, well seeing as it wasn't mentioned anyplace in the above instructions... and
seeing as worms is a uk dev... and seeing as i assumed deadcode was uk based... i
thought it couldn't hurt to check/find out more...
so, i'm sorry if my post gave you an erection, thrik... but you can't assuage the guilt

i've got a few questions, now that fiddler works:
--is there a place somewhere on the internet, where i can find the fiddles & weapon modules that -->wormsmart (http://web.archive.org/web/20030620113949/http://wormsmart.clanpages.com/) once had?
--how can i play with all the weapons that were edited in a fiddle? i always just get the intermediate weapon scheme! doesn't fiddler override that in some way?
Exackly the same question 1 here
Can U clarify question 2? I dont no wot it meens.
Exackly the same question 1 herehuh?
no, wormsmart.clanpages.com had 20-30 fiddles, sent in by many diffrent users!
that page is obviously down for a few years now!
i want to know if anyone has a backup of all the fiddles & weapon modules!
Can U clarify question 2? I dont no wot it meens.
well, now it works...
(i guess if you change a scheme ingame it won't work, but who knows...)
I posted this in that other thread, so if you read that there is nothing new here.
I had a great many weapons I made long ago that have been lost to file corruption (still have the files, but they dun got broke)
Here are some of my favorites:
Confusion Bomb: no sprite, but has a very large trail of '?' marks (the trail for the MB bomb). Fires like a Zook, and has a bounce to it, slightly more than a nade with +bounce. Since it's so erratic, explodes on spacebar.
Weapon Delievery: Fires from a zook, like Mortar. Has the crate sprite. On spacebar, turns into a weapon drop. Don't remember if I ever got it working correctly. lol
Acid Strike: Air strike that drops a bunch of (white) napalm sprites. They simply go through the ground, like a mole would. Explodes into napalm, but dissapates quickly.
Laser Gun: Fires the an extremely fast sprite (the flying-fire sprite). High damage, but very little explosion.
Mulit-Warhead: Fires a homing missile sprite, but launches like a mortar. Select a homing location, and fire (more or less) straight up. It launches very fast, and will start to fall. I had it timed so that just after the apex of it's climb, it explodes into 4 homing missles. Homing doesn't kick in until after the missiles are pointed straight down (about 1 second delay). They then home in on their target. This was one of my favorite weapons ^_^
Microbanana Bomb: Just like any ordinary banana bomb, but explodes into many, many, many tiny bananas. My system can currently handle 500 bananas without slowing down. Seems overpowered, but I never kill anyone with this weapon. Each banana only does 1 damage and almost nothing to the ground. It just looks awesome
There were so many, I couldn't possibly remember them all. Perhaps one day I'll recreate it xD
how can i change the cursor to an airstrike cursor,

I'm not sure. It's been a long time since I sat down and really worked with Fiddler. I remember running into odd bugs like that though.
It's a shame I lost my Fiddle. I spend many hours working on that

I MADE THAT THREAD! I was hoping that it would become an official thread. Onw that was known all ropund the forum. One that was popular and loved. One that people would go to to download Fiddles, discuss options and discover what some options do. One that became sticky. I would have been the host of the greatest Fiddler-related thread in the history of the Official Team7 Forum. (*SOBS*)
Anyway, I shall be the first to post a fiddle...

Sorry, but, as mentioned above, no-one went on it, coz they cudunt get the fiddler working. This has a better title (showing people that U can get it working here), so more visit it.
It's not Danger's fault, coz origianly, it didn't have the instructions in.

I refuse to even have a go at trying to get the fiddler to work again. The last time resulted in me going to a bunch of dodgey websites to download things like silk and anti-silk worm and others...but because of that and a lack of security I ended up looseing everything. And the first time how I lost WA and the fiddler was when the stupid computer some how shatterd my WA CD in the drive.
It's too much hassel,
It's too much bother,
The only thing I do now is play WA once each time a new beta update comes out.
I've lost nearly all enthusiasm for this game :(

I have The Fiddler 4.0, but I have absolutely no idea on the face of the Earth where I got it from. As far as I'm concerned, I could've got it from someone who posted it here on the forum. Though I was pretty excited when I heard it existed. I thought "WOW! I can finally have a bazooka that doesn't go with the wind!" Little did I know I couod do a whol lot more than that. Has anyone tried my Nuclear Strike yet? One more thing: with the minetick.wav, replace the old one under Data/Effects/Wav. It's exactly the same, but it just fixes some timing issues with the Hovering Cluster Mine, one of the many weapons in my fiddle.
P.S.
The Nuclear Strike is hidden in this scheme. Try to find it!
EDIT: I can't post it; it's way over the limit. Whoever wants it, just give me your email address and I'll send it to you.

ok. been looking at this thread with some interest, and have decided to join in, but........
i have win2000 NT (or something like that) would this mean i have to follow the XP instructions due to the similarities between the two OSs
i'm guessing i do, cos the fiddler doesn't edit anything if i don't
but when following the XP instructions, i came to the bit where i have to edit the exe file with the hex editor, i edit the 1st bit easily, but the 2nd bit i can't

the instructions on the first page are definitely working with the non-us version!
all you need is a cd of w:a, the w:a 3.0 patch (if your version is 1.0), the anti-silk patch (4.12, iirc) and fiddler 4.0!
if you follow them closely it will work!
if it doesn't, you either did something wrong, or there's something messed up on your computer!
maybe you once deleted your w:a directory without uninstalling...
try uninstalling w:a & manually delete every team17, worms or w:a entry you can find!
a registry cleaner may help or you could reinstall your windows os (don't say a word dodgymat! :))!
edit:
i had the same problem a few times, then i gave up! months later after a windows reinstall, it worked on the second try...

Uploading EXE is about as illegal as uploading the latest patch
AndrewTaylor
16 Apr 2005, 14:47
For the final time.
Uploading any part of any copyrighted material without permission is illegal. Deadcode's patches are released rather freely and can therefore be uploaded to anyone's server space who wants them there, but W:A itself, and all the things that come with it, are not free and cannot be distributed. (exceptions apply for screenshots used "reasonably" in, say, reviews.)
As a rule, nobody's going to complain if you distribute small parts that clearly can't run on their own (but it's still technically illegal), but when you start getting toward executable files that line starts to blur. It's not unheard of for people to arrive here and post a thread asking for one particular file they think will get their cracked versionto run properly. Those people invariably get banned.

you don't need a u.s. exe!
i have the european multilanguage version, and it works perfectly fine!
the wa.exe isn't even touched!
btw., i just noticed that the game changed to english ingame! (weapon names, escape menu, comments,...)
the menus still were german!
i guess that this is because of the fiddler! (or maybe because it's w:a v3.0?)
anyway, i want my (v3.6.25.1a patched) game to be totally (ingame & maybe menus too) in english too!

Sorry, canofworms, a Sold Out version of the game will not work. It comes pre-patched to v3.0.5.0 (beta 2), and as you know, 3.0 is required. Sorry. :(
Does anyone really have a problem with me posting a W:A v3.0 exe file? It's a little useless without the rest of the game with it, so piracy isn't really an issue, methinks. Although there might be a couple of DLLs that were changed in the Beta2 patch, IIRC.
Turns out I'm blind, and people DO have an issue with it.
I'll leave the above in just.. well.. for the hell of it :p
I used to have the entire Wormsmart fiddle collection on a Zip disk - it's long gone now, though. Along with the drive required to read it. However, there are a few old HDDs having lots of fun collecting dust on the top shelf in our study, and a couple more in my bottom drawer. It's quite likely at least one of these has the collection on it. Seeing as my case seems to be just crouching, waiting for the chance to blow up at the bottom of a hat, I'm a little reluctant to go and chuck a 10 year old hard drive in it, though.
Is it possible to rent one of those USB drive caddies?

For the last bloody time,
FIDDLER NEEDS v3.0!
That means: NOT 3.0.5.0
That "patched or unpatched" text was written before the beta patches came out - the "patch" it is referring to is the 3.0 patch.
Sorry, but I'm getting a little annoyed at people asking that. :p
Sorry, A.T, I didn't see your post - last page of the thread and all... hehe... :o
Nice avatar, BTW :D
canofworms, that problem is caused by the water colour (:p @ USA) not being set to blue. The original U.K. version of W:A (AFAIK) is the only version that has the files for other colours. The game looks for the other colour files, can't find them, and then basically says "stuff this, bye bye" and quits. It's incredibly adaptive, don't you think?
Anyways, the water settings are in the 'Misc Options' button in the Fiddler - it's the first on the left down the bottom, if I recall correctly (which I probably don't).

nah, -->mine (http://www.greenpepper.de/greenpepper/produkte/T-Z/Worms_Armageddon.php) has blue, green, purple, red & yellow!
but i guess the uk & european version are the same!
LIST WITH MULTIPLE COLOURS OF WATER (SO FAR):
Green pepper
European
LIST WITHOUT MULTIPLE COLOURS OF WATER (SO FAR):

United States
Have you got a version not identical to the ones above (or an identical version that is not here)?
Post it, and tell me if WA crashes with the water colour set to one other than blue, or not!
I have Sold Out Software :(

So I set it to blue. It was below radius. Any fix for that continuous error problem. Would it be legal to post the water colours? No luck. Might be the cd. the autorun aint working. Ok it was the cd. However I doubt it patches the code. It just says Found ID of WA process. Found handle of WA process and then goes like that for a long time. Also there is that error. See a previous post.

OK, first of all, what do you mean by "nothing". Describe everything that happens since when you press "Go!" (i.e. black screens, text in the box above the "Go!" buttons, everything at all. Even error messages, we still need to hear about it.)

Right. What fiddle are you using. If it's the demo fiddle, go into options (in the fiddler), and try changing the water colour to blue. Use the go! button, and tell me what happens. If that doesn't work, try the manualload thing. Remember, the fiddler has to be open at all times.

31 May 2005, 06:16
Wait...
Canofworms, this might be the problem that I had once. Check the registry and see if the the path in the registry matches the path that the fiddler version runs in. Also try manually loading.
Decided to try and get Fiddler working on my XP machine. Didn't work to say the least.
I found the 'P' to be in $890A8 (followed by the A, T and H as you said)
Is this correct? Can anyone else confirm this? What has caused this discrepancy, and will it have affected the plan?
Also, can I have confirmation about the US/EU question? I have a European version (3.0.0.0). Do I need the US .exe? I'm assuming not as i saw it said somewhere in the thread, but since it didn't work and i followed the instructions precisely (except for that stated above), I'm not sure.
Never mind. Problem resolved. It works perfectly.
There were some unclear sections in your tutorial which led to my problem. Namely this:
On the right there should a string value called PATH, with the value of wherever you install W:A to. Rename this value to FPTH.
Instead of changing the name, I changed the value (I don't know much about registry so I didn't know any better... looking back, I realise how stupid I must seem)
Also, the problem concerning the hex editor and locations wasn't a problem. I simply assumed you got the address wrong (which might not be true for everyone) and used common sense.
I shall write up a tutorial for my site.

Now, I have asked this question a number of times and never received a single answer:
HAS ANYONE TRIED MY NUCLEAR STRIKE????
Also have I posted my whole scheme yet? I've tried to create UT Flak Cannon to no avail, unfortunately. I've gone to plan B: secondary. This is from the first UT where you fight Xan at the very end on the hyperblast ship.
I tried some stuff that was posted earlier.... but no nuke. Didn't you say it was too big to attach? E-mail it me. E-mail's in the profile.

Instead of changing the name, I changed the value.
No, there's nothing wrong with what you did - it was my crappily written instructions that stuffed people up. It looks like the same thing happened to Jdub62.
Are you sure you're using version 4.0 of the Fiddler? It should be exactly the same; I just checked the address then. But, as always, common sense is humanity's most valuble asset. :)
Muzer, could you change that instruction text
5) Open Regedit (Start > Run > regedit.exe). Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team17SoftwareLTD\Worms Armageddon. On the right there should a string value called PATH, with the value of wherever you install W:A to. Rename this value to FPTH. Close Regedit.to
5) If you are not sure about what the registry is, exercize extreme caution - stuffing round with the registry is quite likely the easiest way to completely wreck Windows.
Sorry to anyone this has caused confusion to.
Thanks, Muzer! :)

No. I tried it. I thought there might be a small chance that I could do that. That chance is GAWN!
Anyway, I'll tell you what I did.
One day , I was using the mortar in a game and I noticed that when it exploded, the clusters came out in the opposite direction from which the mortar was headed (if that makes sense). I looked into it and discovered that "ejection angle" was set to -1. So i thought I might have been able to manipulate the clusters to come out in the SAME direction as the initial weapon was headed by setting it to -180. Nope. Disappointing! Your real shotgun works in, well, exactly the same way as my flak cannon but just with different sprites. They're so amazingly similar that if they were in the same scheme there would be a plagiarism suit involved. Anyway, when fully customisable hosting comes out, I'll ask DC if he could change the coding a little bit to make it so that when you set it to -180° it does what we want.

with the fiddler you can edit all the weapons of w:a to ridiculous amounts & can combine all the stuff to make "new" weapons!
also you can re-build some of the weapons that were cut after w2, like the worm strike, cloned sheep, homing cluster & homing strike, gas cylinder, bible bomb!
only thing left would be the sheep-on-a-rope...
additionally, the fiddler allows for building missions & customized worms and mine settings!
(not that sophisticated as the wwp mission editor does though)
XxDangerxX
27 Jun 2005, 00:30
Um... why not just set it to positive 180°?
Um... because positive 180° definitely directs the clusters down. I don't want that. I want them to go in the same relative direction as the original subject. Listen carefully: -1 sets it so that when it explodes, the clusters are dispersed in the relatively opposite direction as the original subject eg mortar. I figured that maybe setting it to -180° would rotate the relative direction from opposite of the subject to the similar of the subject. Get it now?
(not that sophisticated as the wwp mission editor does though)
You have got to be joking. It's much more sophisticated than the WWP mission editor. It's just not as easy to use. WWP Mission Editor is more user friendly.

hmm...
i think you can't make multiplayer missions, time attacks or training missions; and there are a options you can set that i didn't find in the fiddler!
also, the better user friendliness has advantages when it comes to x/y coordinate settings, as you can simply click on the map preview!
i really hope that a (updated) wwp editor will be used for the w:a beta updates!

Um, no. Those other types of missions come with the game, NOT the editor.

Again with the positives! No-one gets it! putting in positive 1 will make the clusters come out at 1 degree clockwise from UP. It will do absolutely nothing in relation to the variable direction of the initial subject.
I was guessing that -0 would make the clusters come out in the opposite direction as the subject, but seeing -0 would act as 0, it was set to -1, which is one degree off; indistinguishable to the naked eye. Does ANYONE understand me yet? 'Cause this is getting REALLY frustrating!

-1 appears to be a variable which is calculated on the fly. If Team17 did not code a weapon that acts like your flak cannon, then I doubt they would have made a variable which acts like that.
Like said before, it's impossible.
Positive numbers are not variables. 0 is straight up, 180 is straight down. (I'm assuming)
Akdor 1154
1 Jul 2005, 07:20
You could try making it an "uzi" weapon type, and setting the time between shots to like 1 millisecond or something...
If -1 is a variable, would it be possible to use an arithmetic operation to get the angle we want, e.g. (-1) - 180 ?
I know Fiddler won't recognize it, but theoretically would the game?

I have "another" computer with just the plain W: A, no fiddler and the latest update. When I try to run that 3.0 worms over the network that happens to me. Even when I copy the .exe over. I'm guessing it's a registry thing. (What else would it be?) Okay, when you uninstall it, go into the registry, go into all the HKEY_ main keys (except HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT) go to \software\Team17 software LTD (or similar, whatever it is) and delete the key WormsArmageddon, just to be sure.

Yes, but also, you've lost the old one, tha's what I mean.
Like, creating a new weapon without losing an old one?
I see. It's been a while since I've used fiddler but I thought it was possible to, say, leave the Uzi, and then edit the Grenade to such an extent that it was essentially another Uzi (with differences)
The only limit then is the number of weapons total than can exist (something like 60)

Everything workes fine, apart from it dosent work. The game starts up and all that, the silkworm thing works, but none of the weapons are actually changed...
yes, i did change some of the weapons, and i did try the demo, but nothing happened. The only thing that happened is that it crashed whenever the water wasnt on blue...
someone help... plz...
Okay, here's the thing:in W: A version 1.0, they had the water colours. In 3.0 they just removed them and no-one knows why. When it crashes it's looking for something that isn't there. So put quite simply, change the water colour to blue.

It doesn't work. I can't get the executable to load. I patched it to 3.0.0, I double click on it, it loads for a bit, then does nothing.
What's going on?

Here's the set I use. Take whatever weapons you want from it and use them separately, if you want, but this was designed to go together, (especially the Right and Left Charges).
I got Plasma Canon from this thread, (I think, and I edited it slightly) and there are definitely others that aren't from me.
I really love the weapon Gaspsygulpses (which is mine).
See it for yourself(feedback very appreciated, by the way):

1. Where can I download the fiddler?
2. (slightly off-topic) I've searched the forum for the sprite editor, I found a link, but all it does is take me to a wierd page. On that page I find the search box and I search for sprite editor, but it doesn't find it. Can anyone PLEASE give me a direct link to ANY page that it is on?

For those who don't know, I have been a massive Fiddler buff ever since I heard about it 4(?) years ago. Since then, I've created what would be, tying with Akdor 1154's Goodies.fsc, the biggest, most clogged Fiddle you have ever seen! When it filled up, I had to get rid of some of my "lesser" ideas to make room for new ones, no matter how crap they are! So I decided to create a BRAND NEW SCHEME!!! to fill up. But, you see, the thing is, since I've created it, I haven't had much inspiration. It's been one big mental block. There's like, what? Four weapons in it? Not good. Ideas anyone?
Hey wait I got a good idea!
How about a competition? Someone thinks up a ridiculous idea for a weapon and we try to make it? And the person with the best entry wins 2 points (see my sig. I got most of my points from a competition where for each entry, the points up for grabe increased by a factor), gets to publish the weapon in his sig and gets it put in the new "Forum Fiddle" which I am creating as of this moment.
Happy playing! (I will, of course be participating too.)

Okay, here's the deal: I thought that was going to be a quite controversial post. I sort of wanted a reply so that, if not your opinions on the competition, you would at least give me some sugestion or ideas for some weapons to put in my blank fiddle. :(

Sorry to revive this a bit old topic, but i tryed everything described on the 1st page but WA kept crashing, i read the DC read me and it says if we have the europian version , that it would not work and we had to find a 3.0 US exe.....my question is..WHERE exactly we find this US 3.0 exe?
I have even searched on many places and cant find it, some one here posted a link to a supposedly us exe but that zip file is corrupted...
U Do Not Nead A 3.0 Us Exe!!!!
Has That Penetrated?

U Do Not Nead A 3.0 Us Exe!!!!
Has That Penetrated?
Then why would DEADCODE post that on the README?
Also im very good messing with Registrys and HexEditing, so im sure i didnt do a mistake, and still worms crash unless i patch it to a version higher than 3.000....
well, it's empirical.
i have the european version and it works.
once i did have problems installing it.
i don't know what the reason was though.

xxItachixx, I think you should uninstall W: A completely then remove all entries for Team17 in the registry and start from absolute scratch.

I have had worms working before using the beta patches, but I wanted to play around with the Fiddler because it looked interesting, first I just started it out of the exe I found, loaded worms just fine but I had the beta patches installed so it did nothing.
At this point I come here and I find this thread and I go ahead and try out the steps posted here, but to no avail I get an error that looks like this: http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/453/baadbaad1pw.jpg Sorry about the off site link, I couldn't be bothered resizing.
Anyhow, I have tried running silkworm and I have installed the 3.0 patch, but I did notice something that made my installation differ The original exe that I installed off my CD was version 1.0.2.0 I'm not sure this has any effect. After I run the patch I seem to be running a version 3.0 exe.
Just to clarify here is what I've done:
Install one copy of worms.
Patch it to v3.0
Do the registry thing so the second install don't muck things up.
Run the silkworm thingie linked in the OP, get no errors.
Install The Fiddler also the version refered in the OP.
Do the ex editing things, to spec.
Install the second version, patch it with the beta patches. (I know I didn't muck up the path names I used the ones in the tutorial).
Second install works like it did before.
But the one with Silkworm throws the error I posted. It's WA.exe that messes up not The Fiiddler.
did it work when you only had v3.0 + silkworm + fiddler installed?
FerretGuy
5 Dec 2005, 01:03
Nope, I tried both ways.
At first I only completed the steps for one of the installations because I got the impression you only needed the other version for playing online and I don't need to be able to do that. That didn't work.
So I followed the instructions to the letter and couldn't get the 'fiddler installation' to work, the betapatched one worked fine but wouldn't work if I used the fiddler.
Of course I will not rule out that I completely misunderstood something, would I be correct in assuming that the one you do the silkworm + hex edit thing to would work without the other install just not for online gaming?
would I be correct in assuming that the one you do the silkworm + hex edit thing to would work without the other install just not for online gaming?
it should work with both ways.
the only thing you do is, regediting the path & hexediting fiddler to find the new path.
the latter may be tricky.
i remember that the values are not always the same as mentioned in the OP.
(i think they were offset one or two)
also, i think i once made the mistake that i edited the value but thought i hadn't done so, because the selection automatically jumped to the next value.

I have no problems getting the fiddler to work, by work I mean run.
I can start the fiddler without any problems it comes up and registers its filetypes and will even start WA just fine (if the game is patched with the files that makes the fiddler useless) it's the game itself I cannot get to work, I think it might be a problem with either my starting version (which as I mentioned wasn't 1.0.0.0 but rather 1.0.2.0) or the silkworm thing not taking. I'm reading through the OP and supposedly I should get some box of some kind but I just get that odd memory error.
Wa.exe - Program error
The instruction at "0x5d0661b1" refered to the memory at "0x00483fe2". The memory could not be "read"
Nice fiddles!
Can sum1 post a link to goodies.fsc?
EDIT: Got it, no worries.
Go here for more amazing fiddles!

Question:
I have WinXPx64 now and I was wondering if the W: A 3.0.0.0 installer (on CD-ROM) is a 16-bit installer.
WARNING: Anyone considering purchasing WinXPx64 Over WinXPx32: DON'T. There are lots of high quality 32-bit programs with 16-bit installers that won't work becaue WinXPx64 doesn't support 16-bit anything (except sound files lol) I realise now that Microsoft is probably gonna sue me for billions of dollars, but I'm the angry consumer. You've been warned.
I don't like not playing all those classic games like Duke Nukem 1, SAM, Crystal Caves, and Ducktales. (*sigh*) those were the days.
Also, Muzer I'm glad to see you like my avatar so much. You're still using it after all these years! :D

Right, so silkworm doesn't seem to fix WA on xp for me, I get a "not supported on NT" error when trying to run it unpatched, and a memory reference error when patched to 3.0.0.0, regardless of whether I've applied the silkworm patch to the 3.0.0.0 version or not. And upgrading to the latest beta patch makes the game work on xp, but keeps the fiddler from working.
Seriously, what the heck do i do?
Seriously, what the heck do i do?
I just reinstalled The Fiddler again and it works flawlessly.
I closely followed the tutorial here (http://www.nanacide.com/wahelp/tpp-fiddler.php).
Yeah, I tried that guide too, but it still leaves me with 3.0.0.0 + Silkworm which means I can't run W:A, Fiddler isn't the problem in that case, WA.exe or Silkworm is.
I just can't run a non-beta patched W:A.
I've searched around quite a bit and apparently some folks had to install silkworm 3.5 before 4.12 for it to work, thing is, I can't find 3.5 anywhere.
Silkworm 3.5 (http://files.filefront.com/silk35zip/;4937012;;/fileinfo.html)
Though I don't think that it will work, because v4.12 doesn't change the wa.exe anymore.
And you really did everything from the tutorial?
