Sell one of your two properties to Run for £300, rather than selling two of them to get £260...
SomePerson
31 Oct 2004, 23:47
I knew someone would suggest that, and I thought of that. But if I give them to Run I have no chance of getting them back. If I sell them to the Bank, I or someone else may get them, and I think I have a better chance that way.
Or, if I go bankrupt (which seems likely) then I'm doing you all a favor - Run will have less property.

SupSuper, I've got a proposition if you're up for it. I'll give you my station for FREE, if whenever I land on one of the stations you pay me back the money I pay for landing on it (i.e. I don't pay you anything if I land on your stations).
You might lose a little from me, but you'll make it up by gaining an extra £100 per other person that lands on it.
Tell me what you think.
Also, I'm buying Trafalger from Test Zero for £500, as I want it, he needs the cash as he's landed on a nasty place, and I'm giving him some extra so that he's not close to bankrupt. More players is good! So when he makes his post, I've already agreed to it.

Tell me what you think.well i've been checking and it seems you have never, EVER, landed on one of my stations so i guess i wouldn't mind you not paying for landing on my stations since you seem to avoid them like the plague :p
so yeah, i accept your proposition :)
Oooooooooooh. So that's how it is.

we've thrown away mortgaging. if you want money you can sell a property. you get the money you paid for it and the property reverts to unowned status.
Nope.
Mortgaging and interest is damn confusing, so we'll ditch all of that. Simply put: if you want to sell a property to the bank, you get half the board value back in cash and the property becomes bog-standard Unowned property.
Half the value back. :p
Ooer. Could this mean two players going bankrupt one right after the other? It's a recession!!!!
edit:

Problem with that is, we've already stuck with the positions on the current board, and while it can be momentarily confusing, it's a bit late in the game to change it now. It *might* confuse things more. We'll see what other players think.

Why? The English version is the original, standard version, that's why we're playing it. Or are we going to have to then play a Portuguese version, etc etc. It makes much more sense to just stick with the original. And I'm not saying that because I'm British, I don't have a great love for this country, I just think it makes sense to stick with one.

No it's not. The game was developed in New York during the Great Depression by Charles Darrow, an American businessman. Monopoly's wheeling-and-dealing gameplay caught like wildfire through millions of people, who were suffering under the burden of the worst American financial crisis ever.

Although Monopoly is frequently said to have been invented by Charles Darrow in 1935, its origins actually go back to 1904, when the Georgist Lizzie Magie, (that is, a supporter of political economist Henry George), patented a game called "The Landlord's Game"!

actually it's vBcode :p
Can you really show me any difference between bbcode and vBcode? Let's look at examples:
* To make a piece of text bold enclose it in , eg.
Hello
will become Hello
* For underlining use , for example:
Good Morning
becomes Good Morning
* To italicise text use , eg.
This is Great!
would give This is Great!
How to change the text colour or size
To alter the color or size of your text the following tags can be used. Keep in mind that how the output appears will depend on the viewers browser and system:
* Changing the colour of text is achieved by wrapping it in . You can specify either a recognised colour name (eg. red, blue, yellow, etc.) or the hexadecimal triplet alternative, eg. #FFFFFF, #000000. For example, to create red text you could use:
Hello!
or
Hello!
(Stolen from the first google result for bbcode)
Oh look, they'd work perfectly on here if the color tag hadn't been removed.
bbcode is a term that most people use generically to cover most forums, and so most people just use that term for any forum, and you know it! Admit it, or I'll hijack this thread!

Nonsense, I said I copy/pasted it from a website so there's no problems there. If I'd edited the code then I'd have not just copy/pasted it, so I'd have been lying. Lying is bad!

Wormiverse has all but two of those tags.
Oh, and does this mean that this forum doesn't use vB Code? After all, vB code has a [color] tag, but this forum doesn't. Therefore this cannot be a vB code using forum. It must be given a new name, like APJBcode?
Nonsense. The actual tags don't matter because anyone who's not silly is going to customise the forum's tags for their own needs (As Team17 have done, as we at Wormiverse have done, as CL2K has done, and more).
In the end, they both use the exact same formatting style, and "bbcode" doesn't have any branding in the name, while "vBcode" obviously does, so a large amount of forum-users refer to the pseudo-HTML code that uses [] rather than <> on forums as "bbcode" because it's just common sense.
Ha.
p.s. You're gonna lose! ;)

Ha.
p.s. You're gonna lose! ;)i'm comparing the built-in tags (without customization).
also, OF COURSE THE SYSTEMS AREN'T TOTALLY DIFFERENT, or you'd have ppl going through hell just to get used to each different forum system's tags. but they are all different some way or another (some more different than others).
sure bbcode, vBcode, IBcode, ezcode, proboards code (i don't think it has a special name), etc are all like pseudo-html code, that way they're very intuitive to the user, and still easier to use than regular html code.
but they're still different. some don't support [ url]some address here[ /url] (only [ url=...]...[ /url]), some have different tags for the same thing, some have new tags, some don't support spaces within tags, etc. and if you don't know those differences you might end up doing lots of edits to fix your code (or even not finding out what's wrong with it).
so no i don't lose :p

Proboards isn't a script -- it's jsut a server that runs YaBB. I think YaBB uses standard bbcode (if that's standard), but it has a variety of bizarre tags in nobody ever uses to cover a variety of weird fringe HTML tags that frankly should never have been included in the standards (and in one case, weren't).

The "You're gonna lose" was referring to Monopoly...
Does that mean that the code CL2K originally had is no longer vBcode? It's a vB2 forum rather than vB3 so the built-in non-customised tags are different to say, the default ones here. So CL2K doesn't use vBcode? After all, your definition of vB code is the default code on say, this forum, but the default code on different vB versions is different, so not all vB forums can use vBcode!
As for you're "they're different", assuming that you realise that both vB forums use vB code (which they obivously do), CL2K's quote system *cannot* take an equals sign. You have to manually type:
[ QUOTE ][ i ]Originally posted by username[/ i ]
TEXT GOES HERE[/ QUOTE ]
(Unless you use the quote button obviously).
So they take the same stuff in a different way. Infact, the bbcode method of [ QUOTE ] tags had the equals sign before vB3 existed, but now vB3 uses the same method. So bbcode is closer to vB code than vB code now?
Nonsense!
The "You're gonna lose" was referring to Monopoly...
I probably stand a greater chance of winning overall, but frankly, things could get seriously ugly if I land on a green again, which I stand a good chance of doing.

Nonsense!i said that i was only comparing the built-in tags of each code. it doesn't mean that custom tags are not code, but the possibilities for them are endless and thus i can't compare 2 different code scripts based on them.
also, i'm not saying one is closer to the other or whatever. i never discussed that. so i don't really know where you got that idea.
on another note, why do we go into such crazy disccusions about forum scripts? it's nerdy :P

Your numbers fail to add up.
First of all, you should be starting with £298 instead of £558, and secondly your net profit (+£750 -£300 -£100) was £350 on that. So you should have £648.

I guessing those were the "purples". They're probably playing with a Nazi board.

the original rules have it that you can't split up a hotel like that, it has to go all at once for the half-cost value of 5 houses
I don't like it myself but since i mentioned the 1969 (or whatever) rules in the first post i gotta goes bys thems

Doesn't that break the rule about having to build houses in a set equally, though?

Aha! The rules only say you can't build them unevenly, there's nothing about selling them unevenly ;)

those are not the rules? i have no idea what rules you're playing by, but even build (and takedown) has always been a part of the game
but my question stands, you previously owned pall mall and whitehall, so why don't you have those properties anymore

I'm playing by the 1961 rules as mentioned in the OP, and they clearly say everything about building evenly but nothing about selling them evenly.
I'll scan them in later.
