are these conunted as 'friends' in the game or not? they didnt count towards my 'who needs friends?' task and i just thought they should.

I also noticed that users from Buddy List aren't counted as friends in "Who Needs Friends?" tasks. And you can't send gifts to them either.

I think they should count as friends too, and it would be great if I could visit their islands and gift them too

I don't believe they count as friends, no. You never know, there might be some specific Battle Buddy tasks coming!
