View Full Version : Change the music/sound ratio - mod a file?

I would like to have, for example, my W.A. music to about 70% and my sound 30% so I can listen to the epic music loudly without hearing "ow owowo owo wo wowo ow ow ow" at the same heightened volume.

In options we can turn the music off, or adjust the global volume setting
Please help! can we mod a file in folder to make this?

Sounds like a good idea for the next version of Armageddon.

The only way to do it currently is to modify the wav files for the sound effects to make them quieter. You used to be able to make wavs quieter in windows sound recorder - dunno if you still can, I know they crippled it for no good reason in Vista. Of course, it could indeed make a good feature in the future.

The FESfx folder is the sound effects for the frontend; sound effects for in game if my memory serves me well are in Data/Effects I think...

You can still use the version of Sound Recorder from Windows XP and older, just google it!

Edit: Oops, sorry. Reading failure on my part.

So Muzer didn't mention it at all? Or question the ability to use it still?

Otherwise maybe Audacity could do the trick.

My first suggestion would be to turn off the WA music, turn down the WA volume control and then play the tracks straight from the files (ingame-##-*.wav):

Steam version:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Worms Armageddon\DATA\Streams*
CD version:
X:\Data\Streams*

Disabling in-game sounds entirely is also an option. Simply delete/rename a couple of folders:

Steam version:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Worms Armageddon\DATA\Wav\Effects*
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Worms Armageddon\DATA\User\Speech*
CD version:
C:\Team17\Worms Armageddon\DATA\Wav\Effects*
X:\Data\User\Speech* **

If you are adamant about creating a complete solution, you will need a lot of patience and a batch-processing tool (http://www.howtogeek.com/57571/how-to-quickly-edit-multiple-files-in-audacity/). You will need to modify every 'Effects' and 'Speech' WAV file (There are over 2500 of them). In the case of CD versions, you will also need to use wkFileOverride (http://worms2d.info/WormKit) to bypass the tracks on the disc. The WAV files you need to edit are located in the folders I mentioned above.

*Change directory appropriately. X: = disc drive.
**Deleting/renaming a folder sourced from the disc itself would involve creating and editing your own disc image. Alternatively, it would also be possible to create empty WAV files and use wkFileOverride (http://worms2d.info/WormKit) to bypass the sounds files on the disc entirely.

Oh, yes, I hadn't noticed he'd implied speech as well. Yeah, it would be rather hard, then, at the moment.

i could try to make a module to play wa music files (with customizable volume) if i find time

You can attack this case from the other side, namely You can make the music files louder, what I actually did (these are HQ music files):

suddendeath1-loop.wav: +100% (+6.03 dB)
rest of the 'quiet' files: +50% (+3.55 dB)

Download (+3% recovery rec.):

WA_High_Quality_Audio_[LOUD].part1.rar (200 MB) (http://www.mediafire.com/file/v0172e4h1yg8tb7/Worms_Armageddon_High_Quality_Audio_[LOUD].part1.rar)
WA_High_Quality_Audio_[LOUD].part2.rar (156 MB) (http://www.mediafire.com/file/47ul9r1jc0wa4tc/Worms_Armageddon_High_Quality_Audio_[LOUD].part2.rar)

Afterwards extract this to the main WA folder:

wkFileOverride - Checks Hard-Drive for the game files instead of the CD/ISO. (82,8 KB) (http://worms.thecybershadow.net/wormkit/wkFileOverride.zip)

and of course:

Have Fun.

Goldwave is a free audio editing program that can do batch processing. It can do pretty much anything.

I've made it with Sound Forge 10 Pro.

Ok so thx for answering! I can't make my own way through the complex solutions.. so now I've downloaded your amplified soundtrack, but these files are read from the CD (.iso in my case) right? So i have to make a custom .ISO with the music files replaced (in folder Streams)

I tried that with PowerIso and I might done something wrong, as my new .iso ain't being read to play the game, says the insert disc thing.. hmm

Anyways thx for the files! I won't request your assistance for that last little problem..

An easier solution is to use wkFileOverride (http://worms.thecybershadow.net/wormkit/wkFileOverride.zip) (from: http://worms2d.info/WormKit) instead.

Place the WAV files in C:\Team17\Worms Armageddon\DATA\Streams (create this folder)
Extract the contents of that ZIP file to C:\Team17\Worms Armageddon
In WA advanced settings, enable the following setting: Load WormKit modules
Restart WA

W:A requires the CD/ISO to be named "WA".

Yes - there should be an option to set the "disc label" or something along those lines - this should be set to WA

But still the best solution on 3.7.2.1+ is wkFileOverride, at least in my opinion.

LobsterBus

Yes it was because my iso wasnt named "WA" hehe..!

But for it to work I had to use the wkFileOverride thing

Thanks a bunch! Music is louder now! I'd crank it up even more but that'll be my business. I guess I could get that SoundForge thing and "simply" enhance the tracks

Thanks again!
