View Full Version : Steam WA buglist
Disappointed to see the removal of classic voice packs from the game (rasta, the raj, jock, angryscots, t17 test.) and having beta forum access removed when i ask why :)
My post from yesterday from another part of the forum:
I've played the steam version of W:A tonight and found bugs that do not exist in the retail version. Whoever it is that supports the game now whether it's t17 or someone else should perhaps address them sooner rather than later since the game is now on steam...
1. Missing content (voice packs as stated above.)
2. In online matches, you hear the default speechbank and not the one you chose for your team (i chose thespian, i hear english)
3. Game occasionally hangs at the end of matches when playing vs non-steam players (players show loading time)
4. Occasional random desync at the start of the game.
5. Option to minimise from pause menu does not function (tested in online match) FIXED - "Use Desktop Window" Incorrectly enabled by default."
6. No steam overlay support.
this is just what i have encountered in my first couple of hours playing. I hope someone who can do something reads this.
For #5: Have you been fiddling in the Advanced options menu and enabled "Use desktop window"? If so, disable it. That option is only for Linux users.

No, but it was enabled by default. Thank you.
Huh, well that's not supposed to happen...

2. In online matches, you hear the default speechbank and not the one you chose for your team (i chose thespian, i hear english)Couldn't reproduce this. Does it happen in the replay file?3. Game occasionally hangs at the end of matches when playing vs non-steam players (players show loading time)Was this a HostingBuddy game?4. Occasional random desync at the start of the game. Were other players perhaps using a WormKit module? If not, we need replays from all sides to look into desyncs.5. Option to minimise from pause menu does not function (tested in online match) FIXED - "Use Desktop Window" Incorrectly enabled by default."I can't think of any reason why that option would be enabled by default, unless you use Linux.
I had problems with soundbanks too. If I chose Cad, it worked in offline games, but when I played online it was the default soundbank (in my case Finnish). It was the exact same in the replays.
I think I fixed this by copying the Cad folder from steamapps\common\Worms Armageddon\DATA\User\Speech to steamapps\common\Worms Armageddon\User\Speech (this folder contained only the English soundbank).
3. Game occasionally hangs at the end of matches when playing vs non-steam players (players show loading time)
I think I was in the same game. I hosted it normally, not with HostingBuddy. It was a 4 player game, and after the first round, we couldn't proceed to second round. Fijut and me could chat, the other two players had the loading clock icons next to them (I don't know if they quit or what). I was unable to press both the "Play a new game" and "Start next round" buttons. We waited 1-2 minutes, but nothing happened, so I rehosted. Fijut used Steam-version, I used my old disc version.
4. Occasional random desync at the start of the game.
I played only a few games with Fijut and this happened only once. It was 3 player game, I was using WormKit with non-steam version, but didn't enable any of it's features. Fijut desynced immediately when the game started, I continued to play with the third player (who probably used non-steam version too).
5. "Use Desktop Window" Incorrectly enabled by default."
This was disabled for me by default.
Here's a sort-of-a-bug-but-maybe-not-really bug. There's no User/SavedLevels folder in the Steam version. I can just make it myself and it works fine, but I was slightly confused at first wondering where I was supposed to put the .png maps.

That is a known bug; a fix will be included in the next update

It seems to change for me. Playing over the last day I had a run of about 6 games where i had the right speechbank, but then it went back to the default... I'm not sure what caused it. At a guess i'd say it happens when i join someone who isn't using hostingbuddy... seems to mess up after that... but not too sure.
Will try the fix and see if that helps.
Any answer to #1? Also found out Jock and AngryScots were cut from the steam version too...

hey, I know why! It's because [CENSORED]
And where I should put the folder?
\Steam\steamapps\common\Worms Armageddon\User
(The default location for Steam is in Program Files)

This is not a bug per se; Team17 have made the decision to exclude some content from the Steam release, likely for reasons of political correctness. (grow some balls, t17)
You can however still use the old speech banks if you have access to them. cough.
Simply copy them to your \Worms Armageddon\DATA\User\Speech folder.

update to this, i copied the files for my speechbank to the user/speech folder like hoppi suggested.
I played 2 wormnet games hosted myself with hostingbuddy, worked fine.
I now play someone else with a hostingbuddy game, the voice has defaulted to english, but the files in the folder are still those of the speechbank i chose.
edit: i'd also hazard a guess it's non-steam (host is russian and doesn't understand the terms "CD" or "STEAM")
restarted game, first game i get into, definitely a non-steam host with hostingbuddy, voice bank does not work, files are in the right place...
why's it bugged? has something been added to stop people using custom voice packs? (i'm not)

Cybershadow, it's a bug with relative paths to files after adapting the game to a no cd environment. Using direct paths should resolve the problem.
this bug is random, so it happens from time to time, and not always. see what Fijut wrote above
Sorry if this is not a bug, I could have sworn it had been fixed many years ago. On Mission 14 "Super Sheep to the Rescue!" you can win it instantly if you just kill yourself. I know that once upon a time this only occurred in non-US versions of the game, maybe it's never been fixed? Either way, it's present in the Steam version.
I have found something really weird that I have never seen before. It may be related to the newest version of W:A only so I'm posting it here.
I'll try describing it as exactly as possible: at a certain point In an offline match versus AI, I selected the grenade and aimed for two enemy worms close to each other. The grenade happened to roll through the first worm on the right (visually*) and stopped in front of the second worm on the left. When it exploded, the right worm was flying in an arc as if the grenade had actually stopped in front of it instead of the other worm* while during its flight it was facing the right. Usually, when flying to the left worms would also face the left.
*I have no idea if it was just a visual or a gameplay glitch. The grenade shouldn't have rolled through the right worm and stop at the left side, obviously, however the worm's flight path was as if the grenade had actually stopped at the right side.
I'd post the replay here if I could actually whatch my replays and see which is the right one. It appears I can't whatch them without the original W:A CD, weird enough since I was playing the Steam version... It shouldn't require the CD for that type of stuff, right?

I can watch replays fine with the Steam version. If you own both the Steam and CD version then the WAgame files are probably still associated with your CD version, and so it will try to run them using the CD version.
If you're using Windows, maybe try right click, select "Open With..." and browse to the Steam .exe file and check the "always use this program" checkbox.

associate .WAgame replays with your WA.exe
to do it: open Advanced settings of WA, then turn on "Auto-register associations". Exit the game. Run WA as Administrator once, then turn off auto-register associations. you're done

Thanks, this worked. Here's the replay, playback at 2:30.
Has anyone ever witnessed this before?

Further to this, I've discovered an easy fix. In DATA/Missions/mission13.wam, at the very top, change WinningCondition=0 to WinningCondition=2.

Carlos was standing on Ryan, the grenade rolled under Carlos and hit Ryan.
Carlos was standing on Ryan, the grenade rolled under Carlos and hit Ryan.
In that case, look at the direction Carlos was flying and what side he was facing. Any explanation on that?
Worms only change direction when moving in the opposite direction at a specific velocity. It's not perfect, but I wouldn't call any part of that turn buggy.
Your initial confusing probably comes from the fact that the sprites are usually substantially larger than their respective collision masks (the collection of pixels the engine uses to detect collisions). You will find that quite a lot of weapons can fit through much smaller gaps than their sprites would suggest.

No, I know that the collision masks of grenades are incredibly small. I just didn't see that Carlos was not standing on the ground;

this is what I didn't know and have never seen before as far as I remember...
I saw this a lot, it is quite common.

Maybe I didn't pay much attention and didn't realize it, perhaps the velocity was very low in other cases. I think this was a rather extreme case, the worm moved quite a bit - it also looked like the grenade rolled through the worm, and I was quite certain that from that position, the grenade should have blown the worm to the right, not to the left.

if you didn't know, you can control replays. Pressing numbers 1-9 will increase the speed by number; 0+number = 11-19.
Likewise it can be slowed down: Shift+number slows it down by number. Pressing "S" will proceed the game by 1 frame forward, and pressing 1 returns it to normal playback. Pressing R rewinds the replay to beginning

Why do you think so? A similar bug has been reported before, but never with instructions to reliably reproduce it.
Could it be the old bug in WWP/old WA whereby custom soundbanks will only play for the first player or something? Not sure how that would be the case...

I don't think there's a way to intentionally reproduce it (except playing the game multiple times in a row), but I recall this bug being able to be written into replays (not completely sure). If someone comes around it - pls post two replays: one with normal soundbank, and the other with the failed soundbank.

you saw from what i said in irc that i believe the bug occurs when i join a game someone else is hosting... it has been that way for me the past few games without a doubt.

so you say it doesn't occur when you host? but you are never a host when using Hostingbuddy. The host is HostingBuddy. you're always the joiner, just with power.

Heh, if you consider getting the rating up for Worms Revolution just because the free W:A bonus includes politically incorrect speech banks is worth it... :p

When trying to create a custom map, it would only let me draw straight lines, even if I'm not holding down shift.
When trying to create a custom map, it would only let me draw straight lines, even if I'm not holding down shift.
the straight lines in WA map editor are controlled by Ctrl, not by shift.
Shift instead connects two dots with a line when Shift+Clicked.

I would first make sure you haven't accidentally enabled any of those weird accessibility features, they're under the Ease of Access Center in Windows Vista.
I've heard of some laptop manufacturers enabling some similarly annoying features by default before too, but it's also possible that it's a hardware issue; definitely try pressing all the suspect keys, it might get them unstuck if that's the case.
Sorry if this is not a bug, I could have sworn it had been fixed many years ago. On Mission 14 "Super Sheep to the Rescue!" you can win it instantly if you just kill yourself. Further to this, I've discovered an easy fix. In DATA/Missions/mission13.wam, at the very top, change WinningCondition=0 to WinningCondition=2.
Further to this again, it appears I am mistaken. Setting WinningCondition to 2 triggers a "survival" mode where you will win when the end of mission is triggered as long as you are alive. This means that in this mode the mission will succeed if you just wait out the 5 minute time limit. So there's no easy fix.
However, I have discovered something else. Mission 14 and mission 18 "Rescue Agent Dennis" are different to all of the other missions in that in their .wam file inside the human team information they have the flag Worm1_Vital=1. Given that the "vital" term, when used on weapon crates and "VIP worm" teams trigger a loss if they are destroyed, it would appear that the worm1_vital=1 flag is not working.
I did some further investigation and can confirm that in Mission 18 killing your own team at the same time as the enemy team will count as a win, despite the mission text claiming you need to bring your worm home alive. Therefore I consider this mission to also be bugged in the same way as mission 14, even if it's less exploitable.

Shift instead connects two dots with a line when Shift+Clicked.
I guess that was the problem... :p also my laptop seemed to be acting weird around that time, the keyboard was disabled, online links wouldn't work, etc. luckily, when I reset it everything was back to normal.
Anyway on the Mushroom map, for some reason, you can see some of the black background color in an inclosed area.
It's likely you had Sticky Keys enabled and it was acting as though Ctrl was constantly being pressed resulting in all your mouse clicks being treated as Ctrl Clicks.
How did you play the replays... I have trouble getting the steam copy of the game to play them, I might have to reinstall everything.
If you were prompted for a disk though... then the following still matters:
Edit: ok, I think I can confirm replays 1 & 3 as being "good" and 2 & 4 as being "bad". Same for you?
Using the disc to watch I noticed there were no issues with any of my replays which is not the case in game.
The host is HostingBuddy. you're always the joiner, just with power.
obviously but i'm not going to type the paragraph out every time i want to reference that I created the game rather than someone else... christ...

CD version doesn't have this bug because all the files are read from CD.

It seems like only the team in red actually uses the voice bank defined for that team in the team editor. The other teams use the default one (German for me).
Replay 1 (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/64600169/2012-09-15%2015.59.55%20%5BOffline%5D%20Blobbo%2C%20Fudge% 2C%20Mara%2C%20Mavis.WAgame)
Replay 2 (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/64600169/2012-09-15%2016.35.21%20%5BOffline%5D%20Blobbo%2C%20Fudge% 2C%20Mara%2C%20Mavis.WAgame)
(all four are supposed to use Drill Sergeant)
These replays might not be good enough, since I don't let all four teams have one turn, so... I'll make better ones.
I'm using Windows 7 x64, by the way.
EDIT: Made some better ones:
Replay 3 (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/64600169/2012-09-15%2019.29.43%20%5BOffline%5D%20Blobbo%2C%20Mara%2 C%20Fudge%2C%20Peon.WAgame)
Replay 4 (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/64600169/2012-09-15%2019.32.30%20%5BOffline%5D%20Fudge%2C%20Blobbo% 2C%20Mara%2C%20Peon.WAgame)
Again, all four are supposed to use Drill Sergeant.

Very nice find!! I confirm it here on steam.
UPDATE: Soundbanks bug fixed by Deadcode for the next patch.

this does not work.
this does not work.
this will work in next version. :)
also this worked for Thurbo
current solution: do it while your Steam is closed. After doing all the steps don't forget to manually close and start Steam (because of user privilege isolation)
this does not work.
Do it this way:
1) Open Worms Armageddon, enable the "auto register associations" option in advanced options.
2) Close Worms Armageddon AND COMPLETELY EXIT STEAM
3) Open WA.EXE as administrator
4) Disable the "auto register associations" option.
5) Close WA.

This is probably also on the CD version, but on the Super Sheep to the Rescue mission I accidentally hit myself and the worm that I'm supposed to kill, and I got a gold medal. This really should be fixed,

this has already been posted
http://forum.team17.co.uk/showpost.php?p=778380&postcount=15
The simple reason of why it wasn't fixed: it's probably the .wam file bug. Since it has never been available to be edited on the CD, the bug was never fixed.
With the Steam version this file can be fixed easily
The bottom of the chat notification icon (Phone symbol) is visible whenever closing chat at at least 1920x1080.
The bottom of the chat notification icon (Phone symbol) is visible whenever closing chat at at least 1920x1080.
in the insight, phone is always ringing, just under the chatbox.
But here it's moving separately from the chatbox so the bottom of it is seen.
the same happens in project x.
probably related to the new renderer
Yep, that was found and fixed quite early on after the Steam release. Not sure what the fix entails.

Player teams are wiped if the player tries to repair/reinstall the game through Steam's "delete game content"/"verify game cache" functionality. This is because the team file is part of the Steam install, so any changes to it will be discarded by Steam.
User files should never be included in the Steam install, they should be generated by the game itself. Either create the team file from scratch or split default/user teams in separate files to avoid this problem.

We've already caught and fixed that, thanks.
We've already caught and fixed that, thanks.
Did it struggle? :D
Hello
Bugs I have noticed in the Steam version of Worms Armageddon:
- Random crashes. Completely random. Where I can find the error log. :P?
- Missing background (like the mountains in this screenshot http://www.gggames.se/screenshots/a/156/11.jpg).
- Many sounds are played badly. For example I can't hear ninja rope's launch sound, mine's launch sound lasts for only a second etc.
The random crashes combined with bad sounds makes me suspicious that something may have gone wrong with the install. Try right-clicking WA on your Steam game list, choosing Properties, then go to the Local Files tab and click the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" button. This will look to see if the game files aren't what they should be and will re-install if necessary.
Note that you might want to back up your User folder or Steam might wipe any custom soundbanks/maps/etc. that you've added. It might also wipe your team file (which is where all of your teams along with mission progress etc. are stored) so you might want to back that up especially. It's called WG.WGT can be found in:
(steam installation folder)\steamapps\Common\Worms Armageddon\User\Teams\
Let us know if that fixes it or not.
I did the trick, 1 file failed to validate and Steam re-downloaded it. Now the background is back! However there are still some insignificant problems with the audio playing. Check this video:
http://youtu.be/lmnVrMb-3-Y
And here is the latest crash replay (before I verified the file integrity).
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/19087490/2012-10-05%2011.38.22%20%5BOffline%5D%20Voimala.org%2C%206-UP.WAgame
I don't know if this file helps anyone to define the problem? I coudn't find the errorlogs from the game's folder.
