View Full Version : Disconnection Issue

I've had a problem with online games lately. When playing on WormNET, I very often get disconnected, however, my internet connection is stable - we are usually connected on Ventrilo and that never gets disconnected for example, while I lag out from the game - and it happens both when I join games or when I host games.

When I'm the host, this happened a lot of times, with more people in the host, sometimes they disconnect one after another in matters of minutes.

What can cause something like this?

What message do you get when disconnecting? Does it say "skipped packet"?

Nope, it is a simple disconnection, network drop. Other players disconnect due to network drop if I'm the host, I disconnect due to network drop if I join another host.

Sometimes this happens constantly, sometimes I can play many games without issues. But it is happening very often compared to what I was used to like a few month ago, I never had issues like that before.

There was a hardware change by the way, I changed a GeForce 8600GT to a GeForce 7300LE, don't think that is the cause though, this issue did not start at the change.

maybe your ISP, router, or firewall is acting improperly. you may want to check it

I have no firewall, my router is fine and what difference would my ISP make? They are stable and as I said, my connection doesn't drop, it's the game.

No offence, but I'm looking for a solution here, not an F12 answer man. :s

sorry, but these were most obvious issues to happen. Do you have a WormNAT2 installed, btw? If so, when did you download it? What other WormKit modules do you have currently?

I don't use WormKit. I was thinking about perhaps trying to use WormNAT2, but I'm wondering what the point of that would be, I don't know what to think of the results.

What would it mean if the issue continued using WormNAT2 and what would it mean if it stopped?

that module is only useful if it's impossible to configure firewall/router to forward hosting ports or if your ISP uses NAT (a shared IP address, in other words), it serves as a last-resort solution for hosting problems. Just the old version of it had problems with Windows 7 when it was dropping packets in games sometimes.
sorry, but I don't see any other solutions on this subject. If you know that it's only you dropping from games, then it is your connection's problem for sure. Just i don't know where to dig further?

Unfortunately, me neither, that's why I turned to these forums. :( I really hope someone will have some idea.

Can you record and post a packet log (http://worms2d.info/Recording_a_packet_log) of the problem?

Yes the disconnect problem is a very common problem lately :(

I am hosting my own server with custom maps. Sometimes it's a regular connection problem for people. Sometimes it's a skipped packet and sometimes it's a sync problem. :(

I don't have problems but people that are playing on my server. And because one particular player is playing constantly on my server without any problems, it's not me....

But I doubt there is anything that can be done. Mostly it's a bad connection from Brazil for example. Germany to Brazil is not stable ^^
Or the people are minimizing Worms all the time. THAT can cause a lot of problems :(

I just downloaded the latest version of Wireshark and in the Options, there is no filter field.

Double-click the interface in the interface list to get to the described options. I've updated the instructions for the latest Wireshark version.

So what exactly is responsible for these sync problems? When you minimize the game it mostly happens, right? Or when you download something while playing maybe.

But sometimes I start a game and a player directly desyncs.

Buggy WormKit modules and buggy snoopers, mostly. I don't think there is any relation with minimizing.

Mhh and is there a way to increase the stability of ones server by updating rubberworm for example?

Or does it differ from player to player. Like a guy with an unstable wormkit desyncs no matter what the host does. That would be suboptimal :)

Desyncs happen when the game state diverges between two players, which most often happens due to said players using a different combination of WormKit modules (different versions of the same module matter). Everyone using the same set of WormKit modules should greatly reduce the chances of desyncs. One step towards that is to keep your modules up-to-date.

a "wormkit" can't be unstable - it just loads modules. if a player has an old rubberworm without the enabled feature, the game will not synchronize. That's why there's a /tellv command.

I keep recording logs, but the disconnections are not happening lately, although I'm not playing that many games.

I'll post a log as soon as I record one!
