View Full Version : Playing with The Fiddler (W:A v3.0.0.0) on Windows 7

I know there are errors when launching the game on Windows 7 that can be solved by downloading the latest version and running the patches - i've played it on my "new" computer so far already without any problems ;)

But lately i felt like downloading The Fiddler (http://worms2d.info/The_Fiddler) again and playing with that, since i always had much fun with the altered weapons and especially the center gravity games.

However, since Fiddler only works with Worms Armageddon 3.0 i didn't manage to successfully start a game with it so far :(
I tried compatibility mode already, or running it with 256 colors or a 640x480 solution, but nothing worked - it always just crashes when i try to launch it.

The Fiddler is now obsolete. Project X (http://wormspx.com), a powerful modification for the latest version of WA, includes a weapons editor which has almost the same interface as the one of Fiddler - so if you had fiddler experience - it will be useful! And not only - you can even make scripts which can alter the gameplay in any way you wish. And you can also play your makings with people online :D

If you still want to go through the hassle of installing The Fiddler instead of ProjectX, there's a step-by-step tutorial on that very page you linked.
It was made for WinXP, but should work on Win7 too, maybe by using XP compatibility everywhere.

nope, it will not work... WA 3.0 is almost same as wwp currently, even worse without native NT support. Don't even hope for a good result

Hi there,

PX has a similar editor and is much more advanced. If you need help installing it, send me a PM so we can chatter in German.

Zerpha,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I've just looked into why Fiddler isn't working on Windows 7, and it's because WA v3.0.0.0 crashes when used in conjunction with Silkworm after patching DXMfc.dll. Without Silkworm though, neither Fiddler nor 3.0 will work correctly.

I'll contact Deadcode to see if we can find a solution (and if so, release an updated version of Fiddler with Silkworm). One question I have is whether you're using the 32 or 64-bit version of Windows 7? As I'm attempting to find out why there's a difference with no discernible change, and this would reduce the amount of testing required.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish by contacting Deadcode, working with outdated game versions and using Fiddler at all where ProjectX is the same thing but extended, working with current game versions?

This is exactly why Fiddler still has its uses.

Why so, KRD?

exactly why?
Open px scheme editor and edit weapons. Kinda the same interface when editing a weapon, works with 3.6.31.0, can be played online. Did you ever try it yourself?
Maybe you are suggesting people to **** the anger out of them by infinitely trying to make something working that is old, obsolete, and is never going to work? I really don't understand what motivates people to do such silly attempts, when there's actually a good, working and up-to-date solution? :-/ it's like making the WA 1.0 working on windows 7, when there's a 3.6.31.0.
Fiddler is just popular by itself. It doesn't make it something special that should be used today. It currently only has a historical value.

If someone really wants to revive the fiddler for the actual use, port it to 3.6.31.0 and make an integration through a wormkit module. Until then, it's ridiculous to even discuss what is better

Fiddler is a lot more beginner friendly than Project X and you have to admit it. Even though PX does everything Fiddler can do, and a lot more, I agree that its interface needs major revamping.

Lol, where the weapon editor is mostly exactly like the fiddlers one. Without blinking images.

But I'm doing a better editor at all atm.

Nooooooooooooo- Mine

that's me who invented this name:mad::o
because if these mines are really a lot, it may take many minutes to proceed to the next turn. that's why "nooooo".
