View Full Version : In-game chat completely messed up + some other annoying thing
The chat is messed up, when I open it it covers the whole screen and I have no idea how that happened nor how to fix it.
Also, the chat swapped the language for me or something, like when I type "z", it says "y" and the other way round.
And the other annoying thing, when using "Ctrl", "Alt" and "Del" to switch to my desktop and then switch back to W:A, I can no longer move my crosshair. Seems to be a bug, I don't see any logical reasons for why CtrlAltDel should disable your crosshair movement.
When the in-game chat is open, press [Ctrl] + [Up]/[Down] to change its size.
Double check what keyboard layouts and hotkeys you are using. It sounds as though you may have reverted to an English/US layout, accidentally.
Use [Shift] + [Esc] to minimise the game.
Beyond the fact that (I might be more exact here later) the chat height of the pinned chat and the opened chat is saved buggy

Also I use wkAntiKeyboardHook since the Windows key itself doesn't mess anything for me.
EDIT: Cyber you deleted your post :S Now everyone thinks I talk to myself

I know about that, but it's not working. So what else can I try?

Where can I check for that??
Search for "Change keyboards or other input methods", or..
Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Keyboards and Languages
I have no idea why chat-resizing doesn't work for you. What resolution are you using in-game? Does the chat really cover the whole screen?

Are you talking about my PC keyboard settings? These are set to German as they are supposed to. The in-game chat seems to invert something though, I assume it's the US keyboard or something. "Y" and "Z" are swapped and I can't use any accents (ä, ö, ü, ß and so on).
I've checked the in-game options, no keyboard settings to be found there. No idea how this could happen.

I'm using my screen resolution, 1280x1024p. That Ctrl + Up or Down command once used to work for me, I believe I set the chat myself to that size, however since sometime last year I am no longer able to change it :(

Can you post a screenshot of the broken chat panel?

Keyboard layouts may change between applications. You could also simply remove the english keyboard layout completely.

I don't think Windows will allow it on some configurations.

Hmm, afaik you can remove all except one keyboard layout. Especially in German Windows. I don't know about systems with preinstalled non-latin languages. Are you sure about that?

of course :)
I've never heard that before. As far as I know, if the layout in question is not currently the default layout, you can delete it.

There, took me some time to figure out how to take screenshots again, those two guys weren't too communicative.
By the way, in that same match a crate dropped in a fire and didn't explode. Is that normal? I can't remember, honestly :p

You can also restore it via editing the game settings in the registry.
For example with my script in the attachment.
Just dropping a post to say the keyboard switch has been miraculously fixed :)
Probably my attempt at taking a screenshot fixed it as I pressed several random keys. Is this an implemented feature? Being able to change your keyboard settings for W:A?
The giant and unresizeable chat box remains, though :(

I highly doubt it.

You can use the aforementioned tab in the Regional and Language Options to check what key combination is set to switch between languages and to disable it if you're not using it. Should look something like this:

Plus you can remove other unneeded keyboard layouts on the "General" tab there.

hehe, US layout is obligated here. Because we hardly have space for all the russian alphabet's letters! :D

What has that to do with "space" for letters???

if the PC keyboard was 2x times wider, we'd have both alphabets in one layout rather than switching it everytime and accidentally typing the text in the wrong layout. уккщк

Phew, and I thought you meant weird stuff like keyboard layouts and memory usage :S

Checked, it's set to German and no keyboard combination is used to switch between languages. Could hardly have been the case anyway, only Armageddon was using a different keyboard language for a small period of two days.

That's how it works, though. When you switch to a different language while having an application focused, Windows will only switch to it for that application. And if you're particularly unlucky, it will remember your choice until next time you run it.
Ah, makes sense, then. What confuses me though is that there are really no keys set for this option. Hm.
Anyway, any ideas yet of how to resize the chat if it doesn't work with the regular commands? Will Pac-Man's script only resize the chat or will it enable me to change its size again?
That should just not be happening.
Assuming you don't have a corrupted installation of the game (or something equally disastrous on the hardware level), I'd make damn sure your ctrl/strg key and the arrow keys are working as intended.

It will restore the (default?) game settings with a pinned height of 4 lines and an unpinned height of 8 lines.

Well, the ctrl key is probably not working as intended, as I can't resize the chat with it...
Is there anything I can do? What could cause in-game key settings not to work properly for me?

Yep, that's what Windows XP and newer allow at least (Not sure about older Windows versions, I believe Windows 98 also functions in the same way). Has the OP mentioned what keyboard he/she/it uses?
Has the OP mentioned what keyboard he/she/it uses?
he uses german qwertz.
That is a keyboard layout, not the actual keyboard model/name.
