View Full Version : Screenshot Taking

I recently reinstalled W:A after installing Windows 7. The game has been updated to 3.6.31.0, and I decided to re-add the WormKit modules back too.

Basically whenever I try to take a screenshot with the Pause/Break key, it doesn't do anything. There wasn't even a Capture folder in
C:/Program Files/Worms Armageddon/User anyway, I had to manually create it.

C:/Program Files/Looks like that's your problem right there.

It isn't because I've allowed the game and myself to change and add files and folders to the W:A folder. I made sure of that.

Project X
That's the problem.
Project X disables the screenshooting feature for some reason I don't know, probably it relies on the Direct X rendering. As Entuser said, it's hard for him to fix that, but let's hope that it will be fixed eventually.:)
Right now the only solutions are either disabling Project X (fully, the "OFF" option will not help) for the time you do your captures or using third-party software screenshooters (I prefer the screenshooting feature of Fraps). The PrintScreen trick won't work, it will only capture the windows underneath WA (weird effect, isn't it :D ). Also you can use the windows snipping tool in case you are using windowed mode.
That's all.

Also,

wkColorFix
it isn't really needed with 3.6.31.0 that already has built-in palette fixes (ColorFix can conflict with them and cause messes in front-end), it's even more useless with Project X, as you stated (however Project X himself may also rarely cause the messes in frontend, due to a weird and unexplained bug).

Hi StepS,

Thanks for your response. It has been such a long time since I last played W:A, I just downloaded the patches and fixes that I had the last time, because I knew that it would work. I guess with this new update, I don't need the wkColorFix files. Could this also be the reason why the game flashes into what looks like the rainbow with added noticeable noise (all pixelated and such), and it also frequently goes back to the desktop, just before the game loading icon appears, when the game is loading.

I will have to disable Project X for when I do my snapping, and yeah I've tried third-party software, such as Screenshot Pilot and HyperSnap, but to no avail. I did see Fraps mentioned somewhere, but they discouraged it because of watermarks (I think).

:)

Maybe. I've never tried ColorFix + Built-in palette fixes + Project X. I think that would be epic :D Since Project X uses 32-bit colour depth during the matches (and ColorFix also acts on the start of a match), so...

I'll report back on how it works. :)

It would be cool if the game supported full PNG images in 32-bit mode, instead of limiting the map colours to 112. I'm surprised this hasn't been done, what with all the modern updates and such.

Something like that is planned eventually, just not before W:A 4.0. I don't know how difficult it is myself, but if I remember right, CyberShadow has said that it would take a major rewrite of W:A's code, which probably won't happen until 4.0.

Project X already supports such maps (ignore the 112 dithering warning - that's a rudiment). Try it yourself :) (should be RGB).

@ SgtFusion - Yeah I understand that wouldn't be no easy task. :)

Most of my Photoshop work is in RGB anyway. So now, I'm given the choice of either having detailed maps, or taking screenshots. :p

Well, if nothing of the 2 variants (disabling PX / software screenshooter) don't fit you, then try using windowed mode. You will then be able to use a snipping tool or the PrintScreen trick (which won't work in fullscreen - it will capture everything underneath WA:eek:)

Ah that is something I've been meaning to ask about as well. How do I set windowed mode up? That would help, considering I've always got people speaking to me on WLM, YIM and Gtalk.

Open PX.ini. If the string exists, override it with:
Windowed=1
(the windowed mode will only work during a match).

So it will only work whilst I'm in a current game, and then I modify the file? I believe I did that earlier, but now W:A is closed. I'll try it again.

No, I didn't mean that. I meant that the WA will be actually windowed only when you are playing the game - not in the frontend or menus.
You must restart WA before applying PX.ini, of course.

Ah sorry. I should point out that I'm a little tired at the moment, so apologies for any errors and such that I make.

Nothing to worry about, it happens to most of us, especially right now;)

Hmm the PX.ini file has been edited to '1', and I have changed the in-game resolution to 1024x768, but the game still runs in full-screen mode.

So, go start a round/match.

wfus

Ah so it doesn't actually affect the whole game, just the matches.

And you could read my two messages explaining that :D

If you want to take screenshots, go ahead and download the demo of FRAPS. You'll get a watermark, but it's pretty small at high resolutions.

franpa
23 Oct 2011, 04:31
Yep the watermark is tiny. Fraps only saves in BMP but you can use MSPAINT etc. to convert it to PNG or Jpeg etc.

It's fine, I'll just use the game without PX. :p
