View Full Version : Can't switch displays after playing Worms Armageddon

I have a strange problem: after playing Worms Armageddon I can't switch displays. I usually switch to my Full HD television before starting the game, and after closing the game I can't switch the display back to the computer screen. Apparently there's still some 3d process or something running and that's why the display can't be changed. The displays can be switched only after rebooting the computer. I have nvidia drivers, and with the help of Google I managed to find out that others have had the same issue, and with different drivers, so it shouldn't be a driver-specific problem. In addition, this doesn't happen after playing any other game, only with Worms Armageddon. Please help me with this one!

Have you tried another game that uses a 640x480 8-bit DirectDraw video mode?

Well, in all honesty, I don't know :) I play a couple of older games but I really don't know if they use the same mode. Does that cause the problem?
What software do you use for managing your displays?

I use nVidia desktop manager with assigned hotkeys to switch the displays.

What does that do?

Forgot to mention that I'm running it on Win XP... At least to the extent of my knowledge, Win + P does nothing in XP.

That's a Windows 7 shortcut; displays a panel that lets you select different display modes (single 1st, duplicate, extend, single 2nd).
Use Ctrl Alt Delete to see if the WA.exe process (On the Processes tab) is still present after closing the game, if it is, close it/end it. Also if you are using Wormkit, remove any and all Wormkit modules you have installed as you may be using outdated modules that are causing this issue.

It's not about the processes, I already checked them. Exactly the same processes are running before and after playing the game. And I don't use Wormkit (or at least have no idea what it is).

Can somebody please help me? What should I do? Is there anyone who has the same problem?
As a terrible work around, try logging off and on instead of rebooting. Might be a quicker method of regaining control.

That doesn't work either...
Unplug then plug it back in?

Sorry, unplug what? The computer? I find rebooting easier.

It doesn't help either. This is not a hardware-related problem since it only occurs after playing WA. So there's something in the game that makes the computer think there's still a process or app running and therefore it can't switch displays. The "nView Display Settings" option in nVidia settings is greyed out, so I can't access anything there after playing WA.
Try an utility called UltraMon (http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/download.asp). See if that helps.

I haven't tried UltraMon, because I wouldn't like to start using two separate software in order to control my two displays. There has to be some other way...

I'm not using it myself on Windows 7, but on XP it's still kicking. You should at least try it to see if it works, then maybe you could get a new clue about what's preventing the display to switch back, better yet, do whatever you wish... I have more useless applications than friends.

Problems with screen orientation / keyboard switching should be addressed in the next update of DocsToGo via Android Market.
