View Full Version : Worms crashes after updating to 3.6.31
I had version 3.6.28. When trying to connect to WormNet I was told I had to update to the latest version. So I did. Then I started the game and instantly noticed huge fps loss in the menu and when I connected to WormNet and a match was starting, the game crashed.
I then tryed to restart my pc without causing any difference. The game also crashes when typing in commands such as /tell "user" in the lobbies.
What can I do?

Then I started the game and instantly noticed huge fps loss in the menuThat would be because of changed default values for the frontend compatibility options. You can adjust this on the Advanced Options screen.and when I connected to WormNet and a match was starting, the game crashed.Did the error message mention ERRORLOG.TXT? If so, can you post the file here?
Yes I have the errorlog. See attachment.
Sorry for double posting but I can't edit my former post since it hasn't been posted :P
A picture of my current advanced settings is here:

A video showing how the game loses fps and crashes when trying to start a match (look at the the mouse pointer to see the lag) is here:

Notice that the game still lags with the frontend option set to "off".

http://worms2d.info/Troubleshooting_FAQ#After_updating.2C_W:A_crashes_ when_I_try_to_start_it_via_WormKit
W:A crashes when I try to start a match
This problem appears when W:A fails to read a file from the CD. Check the condition of your W:A CD. Creating a CD image may help.
This is not the case since I am using a CD image, not a CD.
The frontend and menu system suffers flickiness, lacks background sound, messed up animations, or unusually slow/fast animations
Try adjusting the value of the Slow frontend workaround setting on the Advanced Options dialog. If none of the settings have a desirable effect, your video card is too modern. These problems will be fixed in a future update. See this thread for more details.
Solution does not work either.
There are no other symptoms listed on the site in my case. I will mention that I am not running WA in any Windows compatibility mode. Any other ideas?

Please note that I linked to a specific item of the Troubleshooting FAQ: "After updating, W:A crashes when I try to start it via WormKit".

Sorry, I misunderstood the link. I got my game working now after removing modules with Wormkit that weren't compatible with the latest WA patch. The game now runs smoothly when playing.
However, the game is still suffering from a mass fps loss while in the menus (like the youtube video shows). Is there any hope of fixing that? Like I mentioned earlier, the troubleshooting tips in your link didn't help solving that issue.
EDIT: I turned the "Use VRAM" option off in Advanced settings. The menus no longer suffer from a fps loss. I will mention that when running WA without WormKit also gave more fps in the menus. Thanks for your help!
I can't update to 3.6.31 without the game crashing.
Even offline the game exits and produces an error report.
I've tried removing all wormkit related folders and files (that i can see)
I've tried putting the "Slow frontend" off and also the VRAM off but nothing makes a difference.
I'm not very clued up on all this technical stuff so please could you try to explain how to fix this problem in noob terms lol.
Error log supplied, i hope it helps.
Many thanks.

Please buy the game. We do not support pirated editions of WA on this forum.

Clued enough to acquire a pirated copy, it seems.

And that's £2.99 for both W2 and WA.
WOW... i'm stunned at the rapid response to accuse of some kind of pirate copy, but fortunately for me, untrue !
I have the original disc right here with me.
Now ... i'm wondering why you get the conclusion of a pirate version, could it be something to do with it running on Daemon tools as an ISO ?
I've updated twice before and this was never an issue, the ISO worked straight away, or simply after remounting the image. (which i've also tried)
A friend of mine showed me that the ISO worked better and faster than the disc, which is surprisingly true, so thats what i've done ever since.
I've tried to run via the disc with the ISO unmounted and i still get an error.
So again, any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks

"New Edition" is an illegal pirate version of W:A. If you bought a "New Edition" CD, you have been scammed. We can't support these versions here either way.
Ok, first my apology for the delay in reply, been away for a week.
I have an original worms armageddon CD here, "New Addition" was the name i added to the folder when i added a load of new things such as wormkit, zip folders of maps, schemes and sounds etc, i had a friend help me with this because i was unsure of where it all went, but i can assure you the disc i have is not a pirate copy.
Its a "Sold Out" WA disc which i bought from a "Game" store roughly 8 years ago.
I've played the game ever since then, not always online as i've had net issues for a while, but i still play constantly.
I tried to get the game online last week and was instructed to update, which i did.
I've had 3 attempts at it and each time it crashes the game, so i've done a system restore each time to go back to the last version.
Now i have no idea how any pirate info could have got into the original folder but if need be i'll have to wipe all the info and start again.
I'd rather not have to do this because it literally is years of maps, schemes, sounds and more.
I have a back up of most of the stuff on a seperate drive but i'm not sure if adding things back again would make it crash again after the update.
So once again, i appeal to you for assistance, i can prove everything i have is original and above board if needed, not sure how but i'll do what i can.
Thanks again.

Perform a clean install of the game from the original CD. If the problem persists, post the new error log. If the problem disappears, the problem was with your old installation. You can try to incrementally copy over content from your old installation to see what caused the problem.
Ok, reinstalled the worms disc (moved the old T17 folder from the drive 1st)
Added the update and voila... it lets me play a very basic game.
So, i added only my "User" folder with maps, schemes etc etc and bang, the game crashes. This is running exactly as it should via the disc so there's nothing else that can be conflicting, only the folder contents.
I noticed the Error log mention a soundbank i picked up from somewhere so i changed it to a "normal" one but still crashed, but this time with a different Error log...
So somewhere in my user folder there is something that this new update doesn't like.
Error log enclosed...
If i have to i'll go through every file till i find it but hopefully you can maybe point me in the right direction here please guys.
I appreciate the time and help.
Thanks again

Update on last post... i finally got it working again.
For some reason the "User" folder needed to remove all "Games" and "Logs" because they seem to be recognising the older game version.
Once these were deleted, the game worked fine.
Once again, thanks for the help, its just nice to finally be able to join in again.
