View Full Version : Speech Bank Editor Added
Finally you can import your own speech banks and your faves from Worms Armageddon, 3D, Forts, Mayhem etc. It works quite well, however I don't know yet wether the players you play against online can hear them, too.
So I imported a few of my favourite speech banks from preview games like Game Show, Arrogant, Great Statesman and Team17 Test. What speech banks are you guys planning to import? Maybe we could make this thread a temporal place to up- and download speeches.

Nope.
It will default to your standard speechbank of your respective language setting.

T17 Test FFS! ;)

Yeah, if everyone wants to enjoy them, the best case would be if there exists exactly one copy of every new speechbank, and no one changes the file and folder names.
BTW, does the editor actually export a single file? Or simply all separate .WAV files in a folder (like it was in previous versions)?
Also, how do you extract the speechbanks from W3D and W4M? IIRC, they were in a XOM ccontainer.
Nope.

If so, I called the imported speech banks the name it was given in the original game together with the info where they are from (example: "3D - War General")
There are several sites where people post WR shoppa maps, someone should create a similar one for speeches :)

Now that you meantion it: I already imported several W3D speech banks (.wav files) but I really don't know how to get the W4M ones.

Same goes for this: The only way to import them that comes to my mind is to record these speeches ingame, save as .wav datas and then import them to WR which will probably be a lot of work.
Or is there a simplier way to do this?

Huh?
T17 Test is available as simple WAV files on the WA disk.

Oh. I've searched for the files but coudln't find them - must have escaped my notice :p

They're in ..\Data\User\Speech\Team17 Test on your WA CD.

lol, me too :D (Before it was a burned CD from a friend, only had Worms 2, 1 and Blast at that time. Bought the Green Pepper CD when I saw it in the shops, since I felt like a pirate xD)
Anyhow, I think I'm just going to open a new thread including download links with speech bank packs (one pack for each game). I could do it for TF2 speeches as well I think.
There was planned to release these speeches temporally on another site first (http://wropers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=449#449), but I think a thread here would do just well.
Furthermore, on Wormgineers.com (http://wormgineers.com/index.php?page=Files&cat=Soundbanks) are a few speech banks available, too.
*EDIT* By the way, anybody knows where to find all the TF2 speech banks? So far I've only got Soldier, Engineer, Spy, Scout and Heavy.

If you mean making them yourself, the official TF2 Wiki should have all the soundbites for each class.

In case you own the game, you'll be able to find them here:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\team fortress 2 content.gcf

Actually, no. The soundbanks already exist, and you can dowload them somewhere for Worms Armageddon/World Party, but I can't find the site anymore.
Second, the original W:A TF2 Soldier speech bank doesn't include the sentence "The worm has turned, gentlemen" yet. I found it on the Team Fortress 2 Wiki, however the soundbanks aren't downloadable. QuickTime Player shows up if I want to hear them, and recording its audio doesn't work for whatever reason.
If you could do me a favour, if anybody knows how to record it, could you please send me the .wav file? Thanks in advance ;)

Right click link -> Save As
Or Save Link/Target As. Depends on your browser.
Man, you should know that Thurbo.
oh it worked! Thanks man! :D
(It refused to load when I first tried this, but now that you told me it works like this I waited a minute and suddenly the download started :p)

Here's a Duke Nukem speech bank based on Manhattan Project sounds:
http://www.multiupload.com/0JJSQWUJJE
Extract the .xom file to:
"Steam\steamapps\common\worms reloaded\Audio\Default\Win\CustomBanks"
Then select from the Worms Reloaded main menu: "Customise, Manage Teams, Edit (or create) Team, Speech Bank, Duke Newkem"
The link doesn't work :(
By the way, if it's based on Manhattan project, it's not this 16 bit speech bank like on Wormgineers, is it?

There we go, I fixed the Duke Nukem link. It shouldn't be like the one on Wormgineers, since the source files are 44,100 Hz, Stereo OGG Vorbis @ 96 Kbps VBR where as the original Duke Nukem 3D sounds are 11025 Hz, Mono VOC files.
edit:
Here's a Lo Wang (Shadow Warrior) speech bank for Worms Reloaded:
http://www.multiupload.com/97QTS010OX
Extract the .xom file to:
"Steam\steamapps\common\worms reloaded\Audio\Default\Win\CustomBanks"
Then select from the Worms Reloaded main menu: "Customise, Manage Teams, Edit (or create) Team, Speech Bank, Lo Wang"
Unfortunately it's a lot lower quality than the Duke Nukem one, since the source files are 11025 Hz, Mono VOC files.
Ported the WA Southpark bank over to WR.
http://wormgineers.com/index.php?page=File&id=617
Enjoy.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KHHLFUYX (old version)
Extract the .xom file to:
"Steam\steamapps\common\worms reloaded\Audio\Default\Win\CustomBanks"
W3D - French, W3D - German, W3D - Italian, W3D - Spanish and W3D - Horror
Then select from the Worms Reloaded main menu: "Customise, Manage Teams, Edit (or create) Team, Speech Bank, 5 soundbanks"
PLEASE NOTE: The "Incoming" and "I'll get you" clips are the wrong way round on purpose. Due to an oversight by the developers, a worm would shout "Incoming" after being hit, and say "I'll get you" when an airstrike is called in. By swapping them around, the worms say the right clips at the right time.

Hello Everyone, I'm new at this forum and I have recently re-installed my steam worms reloaded and I noticed the new feature Speech Bank. So far I like it very much. I just have a question,
I have been reading the posts here and so far, what I can understand is that even if you create your custom speech bank, other players will still be unable to hear it? Is it really that way? Has anyone confirm it?
Also I have created 2 speech banks so far, one with the TF2 Medic Speech and another for the Scout. There are still few corrections to be made, but if you guys want I can post a link here.
And for those you are looking for the wav files of the TF2 Classes voices + The announcer voice, I have a link for you:
http://www.youtube.com/user/Darkrai64#p/u/9/tswv55Vg86Y
This youtube channel has videos with all sounds from each class and a MEGAUPLOAD LINKS for each one, you might want to check it out yourselves.
For now thats about it, and I would appreciate an answer for my question

Yup, it's been that way in every Worms game that's allowed custom soundbanks so far, I believe. In a way that's understandable since not that many players would actually like the idea of anyone being able to play anything through their own speakers, but certainly a more elegant solution to what we have is conceivable.
At least, Worms Reloaded chooses a random speech bank from the whole list of available standard speeches instead of taking the country specific one every time (German, Russia, English etc, depending on the country you live in) as preview games.
Although, there's a way to make your friends hear your speech banks. Simply send them your files which they have to drop in their own folders without changing the name, and you'll be fine.
By the way, many custom speech banks are available on Wormgineers (http://wormgineers.com/index.php), including all of the Team Fortress 2 ones (except for the announcer) by HumbleFellow (http://wormgineers.com/index.php?page=File&id=630), a complete pack (http://wormgineers.com/index.php?page=File&id=697) for the Worms 3D speech banks and the missing W:A speech banks can be downloaded here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OR689NFK).

Here's a speech bank for Worms Reloaded: (+53 in total, 157 MB)
http://www.multiupload.com/1KJGNT6G7V
Extract the .xom file to:
"Steam\steamapps\common\worms reloaded\Audio\Default\Win\CustomBanks"
The complete Worms 2D and 3D Pack! (+53 in total) (157 MB)
- As Wormgineers does not accept files over 12 MB (And this is, obviously, over that limit) here's the download link: http://www.multiupload.com/1KJGNT6G7V
- PLEASE NOTE: The "Incoming" and "I'll get you" clips are the wrong way round on purpose. Due to an oversight by the developers, a worm would shout "Incoming" after being hit, and say "I'll get you" when an airstrike is called in. By swapping them around, the worms say the right clips at the right time.
- Also, because there's a limit to how many custom soundbanks you can have (I think it's around 50 or something) you won't be able to have all of theese soundtracks if you've got plenty already. But then, of course, you can delete the ones you don't want in this pack to make room.
- Complete list of soundbanks contained in the pack:
. W3D - Alien
. W3D - American Wrestler
. W3D - Biggles
. W3D - Blues Man
. W3D - Capone
. W3D - Classic

. W3D - Pirate
. W3D - Polish
. W3D - Russki
. W3D - Scotsman

Nice thought that man, but these sound banks have already been released by Thurbo and are in use by people. Please take this version down, as your alternate naming scheme will only mean there are two sets out there and so won't match up and won't play properly on other computers with the Thurbo set during multi-player games.
Alternatively, please rename as follows:
1) Remove the 'Mayhem - Brickie' set as this comes with W:R as a demo speech editor set. It is unnecessary.
2) Rename the W3D sets in the format '3D - Alien' etc. to match the Thurbo version. Calling them 'W3D - Alien' etc. will break compatibility.
Or just add the links to Thurbo's versions instead:
W:A/WWP sounds:

W3D sounds:

This is not criticism. Thanks for your efforts, I'm just trying to help you avoid a clash.

Are we saying that Thurbo's sets are broken? Could you confirm, so I can switch to a fixed set like yours?
If so, then your sets should still be renamed so that at least they are compatible with Thurbo's as it is not possible to install both sets and Thurbo's are currently out there in the wild.
Also, wouldn't it be best to remove the 'Mayhem - Brickie' set as this is already included by T17?
@Thurbo: Can you confirm that your sets are broken and that krdrt's should now be used instead?
@Thurbo: Can you confirm that your sets are broken and that krdrt's should now be used instead?
I can't really confirm it, I just couldn't get them to cry "Incoming" after being hit, neither "I'll get you" during an airstrike.
I put the W:A files names together with the W:R files (I'll get you -> I'll get you), so as long as it's true the devs swapped it, my sets are broken.

Right, now I'm back from my Christmas family visits I have tested and I can confirm the "Incoming" and "I'll get you" custom sound switch bug.
Basically, though the built in sound sets work properly, the custom sound sets are marked up wrongly in the W:R soundbank editor.
@Thurbo: Your sound sets are broken due to this bug. Also, the Classic, French, German, Italian, Polish & Spanish W3D soundsets are different to the W:R ones it seems. Krdrt's set includes these and that is a good thing. Thanks for kicking these sounds off, but it may be best to remove your downloads now so that the community has one fixed communal version of these sounds to avoid community fragmentation. It remains, of course, your decision. I only suggest it to encourage community cohesion.
@krdrt: Your set seems the best bet. Thanks for renaming the W3D sounds to match Thurbo's, as this will help maintain compatibility for the community.
There is a flaw in your set however:
The 'Mayhem - Brickie' set is already provided as an example set by T17 in the W:R custom sound set folder. The problem is, it also suffers from the bug and is broken. You have included that set in your download but you have not fixed it, it seems to be a direct copy of the T17 file with the bug remaining.
Could you fix the 'Mayhem - Brickie' set in your download as well? There doesn't seem much point in including it otherwise.
Also, I would like to suggest you provide a 'clean' version without the 'SiW' set. I suggest this because it seems out of place in a collection of T17 sounds from W:A and W3D. The 'SiW' set should be provided as a separate download. This is just a personal opinion, but I offer it as a suggestion as I like your pack and I suspect others may well agree with me and I want to assist you in promoting your pack as the standard 'clean' download for the old T17 sound sets.
Please post here again if you make the 'Mayhem - Brickie' changes and possibly the 'SiW' removal so I know when I should start spreading the word.
@Thurbo & krdrt: Thank you both for your work. I'm sure I am not alone in appreciating it, but I want to give you my expressed thanks as so much good work goes unappreciated where W:R is concerned.
@BillT17: If you could arrange for the sound editor in W:R to mark the "Incoming" and "I'll get you" sounds correctly, as they are used in game, it would help to avoid these issues in the future which would be very useful. The sooner the better too, to avoid bugged sound sets building up in the community. Any chance of this being addressed in the next patch?
