View Full Version : Problems with WormNet

Hi..

Not entirely sure if this is the right place to post this, or if it has been asked
before (i searched); but I am having a problem with wormnet.

When I enter AG, I can't even see the chats/joins/quits - it's just blank for me; and on the rare occasion that I am able to join a game, the map loads around 1/3 to 1/2
and then just stops. I am given no error messages whatsoever on that case.

Oh, and if I wait in AG long enough (while not seeing the chats, etc), I just
get a "WormNet connection terminated" error (or something similar).

I have also tried hosting / joining via Direct IP... sometimes it works, but it's usually the same case. I also got an "Out of Memory" error twice when I hosted via Direct IP. HALP? :S

(PS. Sorry for my disorganized post)

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I can see the joins/quits/chat using http://snoop.worms2d.info/
But still get the same errors when I join games.

Hmm... could you record and post a packet log of connecting to WormNET?

I did everything in the guide, and I always had the "No Packets Captured" error.

I tried:
-staying on the AG lobby til the WormNet connection terminated error appeared.
-entering a hosted game and waited for the map to load (loads around <1/2 or 1/3; no error appears)

:(

Perhaps you selected the wrong adapter, or made a mistake in entering the filter?

Do you use a wireless adapter?

Hi, thanks for the quick responses.

I couldn't have selected the wrong one, there's only one option, and I am sure
that I followed those guidelines to the letter... :/

No, I don't.

It's so weird that WA is the only program having problems.
Tinkered with firewall, antivirus, still nothing.

Well, the fact alone that Wireshark isn't capturing any packets is strange enough. You should try to solve that problem first (have a look at the Wireshark FAQ (http://www.wireshark.org/faq.html)).

I'm not a professional, but I know when I have a weird problem like this, I try everything to solve it. I have some farfetched ideas for you which may or may not be absurd.

Is there some other process using port 17011? To check, run a command prompt (Win+R, then type "cmd") then type "netstat -n -b". This will give you a list of active connections in numerical form (IP:port) and their associated running processes (e.g. Firefox.exe).

WebSnooper doesn't directly connect to WormNET. It just tells you what it sees from its remote connection. To verify that other software can't connect to WormNET, try using ProSnooper (http://worms2d.info/ProSnooper) to connect. Unlike WebSnooper, ProSnooper connects directly to WormNET without simply relaying text to you.

If both of those raise no suspicion, verify that your WA installation is correct. For starters, in the first menu screen, if you hover your cursor over the "Worms Armageddon" logo, it displays the version number at the bottom of the screen. Is the displayed number "3.6.31.0"? If not, you have the wrong version. If so, what release of the WA CD do you have? To check, browse your WA CD with Windows Explorer and navigate to drive:\Data\Resource\version.txt. Open that file and read what it says. If it says the following, you have the US release and installing the "Beta Update" directly after the game is correct:V3.00U
26-5-99If it says the following, you have the European release and you needed to install the "Patch" before installing the "Beta Update":V1.05E
19-1-99
If it says anything else, just look for "3.00" somewhere. If that's there, you don't need to install the "Patch". If not, you do. If you are having a hard time installing WA in any way (like if it says you can't run a 16-bit program), try starting from scratch using the Automatic Installer (http://worms2d.info/Automatic_Installer) written by madewokherd.

Try that random stuff then report back here. If any of it raises suspicion about the cause of the problem, say so!

@CS

I'm going to reformat my system soon. Will try again after that.

@Lex

Didn't find anything that was interfering with WA, sadly.
I also have the latest patch installed. :/

Done with the reinstall.

And strangely enough, my connection with WN is much more stable now.
Will continue to observe as well as check which programs I will install might affect this.

Thanks for your time guys. Appreciate it. :)
