IT'S LIKE PLAYING AGAINST FRIGGIN' HAL, GUYS

Seriously, this campaign mode is the very antithesis of fun. This is like something that looks like fun and then you go up to it all like I'M A HAVE FUN and then it's all NO and it turns into a zombie snake shark and barfs acid all over you. Then you're sad! Or irritated to the point of scribbling scathingly sardonic MS Paint comics about it

Seriously though I hate it.

Anywho. As long as I'm here griping, I'd just like to say that aside from the campaign and the innumerable bugs, the game, at its core, is a lot of fun to play with friends and is exactly what the franchise needed, so, good work on the whole -- for serious -- but yeah screw the campaign mode and good luck ironing out all those kinks.

AI grenade throws are the greatest thing in the existence of ever! I've once seen a worm roll a grenade very smoothly through two rounded craters and still hit my worm, despite not even remotely aiming at him!

Oh, and if you think the regular game's campaign is bollocks, you should see the demo's campaign. See, it's literally just the first two missions alone. And if you can't remember them, they're pretty much straight deathmatches at incredibly uneven odds, so that there's barely even a challenge.

Really. The last demo mission ended with the opponent killing every one of his own worms himself! (yes, I am that bad at the game)

Demonstration my ass!

I found it too easy as well, but still felt like a chore because it was not fun at all.

It's painfully easy and mundane until the last few missions where it just becomes painfully hard and mundane. GOOD JOB BEATING THAT DEATHMATCH, LOOK HERE'S ANOTHER ONE *cheese*

Demo campaign was a bit stupid. I mean, they really showed me variety of WR missions. Deathmatch, deathmatch... C'mon, show me something original! Deathmatch... I hope the next mission will be better... But no, all demo missions were just deathmatches.

It's like Worms Blast all over again. :rolleyes:it was extremely easy. except in the situation Zeor described where the AI tosses grenades at random walls only to have them fly completely across the map, ricochet off of no less than 3 hills and a crate and then fly up your worms nose, exploding the millisecond it gets there.

and then the mission immediately after that the entire enemy team is so stupid they just off'd themselves before I even got the chance to help....

I got completely brickwalled on the last couple Worms Blast stages. Was never able to finish it.

That said, despite whatever circle of Hell was contacted to summon the AI for this game, I think it's actually the first campaign in a Worms game I've completed. It's all about the darksider tactics, combined with hoping the AI just blows itself up trying to get to you.

At least those ones felt challenging, whereas 25 was straightforward-looking but basically amounted to you vs. a finger on a KILL PLAYER AND WHOLE FAMILY button. So the one in this comic, imo, is the worst one.

Aside from that it really isn't awful, difficulty-wise. Certainly not as compared to the ones in the older games, to be fair. Never got far at all in those.

But... Still. :p

HEY GUYS WE MADE A MISSION WHERE YOU HAVE TO FIRE THE BOW AT VAGUE-YET-EXACT POINTS AT EXACT ANGLES TO WIN!

HEY GUYS WE MADE A MISSION WHERE YOU HAVE TO GUESS WHERE TO PLACE A GIRDER TO STOP YOURSELF FROM DYING AND THEN GUESS HOW MANY MINES IT TAKES TO HIT EACH WORM!

HEY GUYS EVERYONE LOVES ARMAGEDDON SO WE MADE A MISSION WHERE YOU HAVE TO GET ONE UNCONTROLLABLE WORM TO SURVIVE IT USING ONLY GIRDERS AND ALSO KILL EVERYONE ELSE AFTERWARDS!

HEY GUYS, TAPS!

And then there were the later Deathmatches...

HEY GUYS WE yeah you're not gonna win this one. Back five levels you go!

Seriously, if it wasn't for the ridiculous enemies-intentionally-attack-each-other-if-they-can't-hit-you bug, there's no way I'd have been able to beat it!

When I was young, I even remember having difficulty on the very first mission of WWP!

Some W:A missions were really hard, but also incredibly fun. And varied. You know, the least they could have done in WR is give us a different, pretty hand-drawn map for each of those boring deathmatch "missions" instead of generic looking maps. :-/

Ooookay, I just beat 30 on my first attempt, so yeah, 25 was by far the worst. :p

Also means that my griping about the entire campaign mode is pretty overblown. But still, screw that mission. :p

29 Aug 2010, 04:00
Yup, that mission. My first worm was killed almost immediately and then working my way up I killed all the worms on the 2nd row only just discovering there was a top level with 4 more worms. No way I would have won if 3 of them didn't die to themselves.

Re: mission with auto-armageddon

I put the worm on the lowest part of the map possible and then covered the entrance with spread out girders to maximize protection. Somehow one of the enemy AI managed to survive it too, so it still became a big annoyance.

Love how the AI goes from DERP to Stephen Hawking in 2 turns.

To be honest, I didn't see anything different in #25 from all others. I immidiately roped up and killed all enemies on the highest level and killing the ones at the bottom isn't difficult at all, they can't even hit you.

Imo this campaign was the lamest one I've ever seen. Few things in recent games were so much better. For example, the missions in Space Oddity were actually interesting. Varying deathmatches, tricky puzzles and mini games, not too difficult and not too easy, supported by a story and movie sequences.

Of course, this is a multiplayer game but adding an interesting single player mode doesn't do any harm. At least warzone deathmatches seem to be a little more interesting but I only played 3 missions yet so there's still to hope :p

Thanks for the hiliarous comic btw :D

I wish that was the case with me. It's not that I've found it too hard it's just like, I've got to this mission where you have to manipulate magnets to kill a worm with a mine and it's just the kind of thing I'm really not interested in getting into so I've tried once and then quit to go back online. Just a pity that if I don't I won't get all the content.

I still haven't figured it out. Not that I want it spoiled. I'm guessing there is another magnet there for a reason and a reason I have a girder (unless they're evil and trying to throw me off). What I suspected was that I have to place my magnet in such a way as it works with the other one to propel the mine which should then hit off my pre-placed girder in such a way that it lands on the enemy worm. That's my theory anyway :p

Only part about the "puzzle" missions that bothered me was at least one case where the correct response still took about 10 tries to work. :p

By the way, thanks for the collective kudos on my little comic.

That mine blast mission was easy, and it was creative. There was really nothing wrong with it. Really I just wish they would make the campaign actually fun again, and pretty frustrating, I can't say how much I loved the WWP and WA campaign. Gone are the days where you needed to time your parachute correctly to get a crate from afar, gone are the days where you had to jump across pipes with bouncing mines, praying you hadn't made the wrong jump.

The campaigns these days just aren't creative or fun. What happened to the fun training missions? why are we always on maps that are based on a landscape theme instead of the type of maps featured in WA/WWP? why is the damn objective always to kill worms? I really miss these type of campaigns and it would be great to see them return.

So does that mean you actually had to do some thinking in a puzzle instead of meh this is easy 1st time round. . .
Its far more satifying to complete a harder puzzle.

Yeah, I'll agree that the main problem with the missions was that they were pretty dull. I've been working my way through the Warzone mode and, if anything, that's worse (it's all deathmatches)

At the very least, they could have come up with amusing mission descriptions and stuck the levels on pre-drawn landscapes from previous games (which are already in the game).

I miss the days of WWP where people could come up with their own clever missions. If T17 could create a new version of the mission editor, complete with the option to add your own wacky descriptions, I'd be all for it. That way, we could make our own Campaign modes and share them online. Sadly, I doubt anything like that will ever happen.

Still, bonus mission pack with me doing the writing. Eh, T17? Eh? ;)

For us the missions could be a piece of cake, but I've read some people on Steam complaining for the extreme difficulty of the missions!
