View Full Version : Hiyo!
Well, it's been over a year since I stopped in here. The forums claim the 18th of March. I saw the article on Worms Reloaded over at Kotaku, and remembered how much time I used to spend here way back in the day. So, I thought I'd stop in and see what's up.
Right now, I'm going into my last year of University for Computer Science. I've also got an internship with the Illinois Department of Insurance, working on their databases and program code. I went from writing for a team anime blog to actually controlling it, and I've managed to slowly build a new stable of writers to bring it back up to what it once was. And to top it all off, I've made a heck of a lot more friends over the past year. Life has been relatively good to me, even if some individual segments absolutely blow.
So what's up with all of you?

Wow. Well congrats Sarge! :D

Y'know, I was thinking the same thing about me.

Dang it.
Hi Glenn! Same old same old for me, although I've been to a few more places (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=20237&page=10#post709191).
I have two sons and I'm engaged.

You also used to have a Frog avatar didn't you?

Yeah, when I first started on these forums I had Frog as my avatar. I think I changed to Zero eventually, and then at some point, I switched to Christopher Eccleston. That was a long time ago. ^_^;
I honestly can't believe it's been 7 years already.

Hi there! I'm in college now. Not that you really knew me enough to care, I don't imagine :p
nice to see you back, though!
enough to care
People who come back to the T17 forum after such a long time obviously do care. :D

People who come back to the T17 forum after such a long time obviously do care. :Dyes, but I was referring only to my relationship with him. I don't really remember us interacting that much, so unless I'm mistaken I doubt I was any part of his decision to return :p
Yeah, I care! Wait, who were you again? :P
He was that guy who everyone hated, then most people stopped hating.
Like many people on this forum (me inclusive, AFAIK).

Frankly, I've lost track of who people hated and who people just liked. I was so young when I started here, god. It was like playing with the big boys then, and it's like playing with a load of parents and married men now.
As for me, I'm just out of university, fresh, young, and faced with mass unemployment.

It's hard not to hate a 9-year-old on the internet ... but no, nor can I. I definitely remeber no one liking Aku (I left for a few months, came back, and he was somehow in OD ... I thought it had been opened up or something :p) but that's about it.

Of course, after the forum pruning (:(:(:(), you can't do that any more for older members.

!
When did this happen?
Curse you Team17! Curse you!
Apparently the database kept corrupting itself because it was so big. I don't buy the "because it was so big" part - there must be many forums with databases much bigger than this one.

It might be that the database size relative to what the server can handle was too big, and it's probably not worth forking out on more storage for this place...
And FutureWorm: every cloud has a silver lining :p
If there is a backup, could someone (thomasp?) pass on the suggestion of doing what some other forums do, that is, having a read-only archive of older posts stored in a separate forum URL?

archive.org?

That's been done already, as far as I know.

Also, this is the best news ever. It shows that there are actually 15 year olds out there on the internets that are not jackasses.
Muzer, you've restored my faith in humanity. Ta for that.

Sp the entire time I was active on this forum is gone. :<

I'm not sure this is possible. I think volc looked into it but found it wasn't really feasible.
It's not the first time threads have been culled from the forum. When I searched my posts a few years ago I noticed some were missing. It might've been a particular section which got deleted.
archive.org?

I think it might have been an issue with these older posts getting corrupted every time the database tried to back itself up. Which in turn killed the forum every time a backup tried to happen.
But that's my point - use a different database. One that's read-only so there only needs to be one backup.

Seemingly, some posts were not removed - All of APJ's admin-related or job-related posts are left, but every other post he made was pre-August 04, so everything personal he wrote is gone.
:(

It's probably more a case of whether the old posts are actually readable from the surviving backup(s), to allow them to be transferred to a new server/database
The old thread cull makes this sticky (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=24190) rather pointless. The only two links that still work are links to threads that are already stickied!
Its not like anyone posts in the FanArt forum any more :p
