Hey All
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but im a little short on time so yeah..
Two new ideas for the game Both relating to the development of PjX/RTW and possible extensions to wormkit. Im sure these two ideas have been discussed before or maybe even put forward but im yet to find a post about it
Ive done the two ideas as two Image files so i can better convey what i mean
first idea is Reverse Gravity

Second idea is Rating system for maps through the worms game itself

Seems like you could acheive the first one by just rendering everything flipped (apart from the gui).

>Reverse gravity; It's possible, but no one wants to write it for EAX. It can't be done using negative gravity fields that are used for existing gravity traps.
That aside, I don't think it would be very popular or enjoyable..
You'd have a better chance with Rubber.
>Commenting; We don't have direct socket or internet fucntions. [Neither does Rubber.]
The first one can be achieved with Rubber - I've already seen some people making funny videos with this, like planet, zero gravity, flipped gravity... But all sprites were original, and thus worms standing on the other side of the planet or at the roof at 0 gravity map were standing on their heads. I think expanding original worm sprites with flipped worm sprites could cause some problems with oversized sprite file.

Yeah i had a feeling it would be difficult/impossible. Those ideas like most of the ones floating around in my head seem to only be possible if the game was like remade.. or atleast a major update.. n i dont see something like that ever happening.
Yer dont no why i didnt think that in the first place (re: S access) "facepalm"
the closest thing ive seen to Reverse Grav is at WK map planet where you crazily (and uncontrolled) move around it.. its sort of what im talking about but not quite
Still i thought it was funky:P

first idea is Reverse Gravity
Second idea is Rating system for maps through the worms game itself
For the first idea, would it be really useful? All I have seen is just like an upside down screen with all statuses back to normal. Seriously, it won't affect the gameplay at all and is not worthy to implement.
For the second idea, unfortunately, it is technically impossible. (I won't explain that here.) In addition, in order to make the idea work, WA needs to have an official map database, like Starcraft 2 did. WMDB is not yet official because it is not created or authorised by Team17.
EDIT: This comment is just my personal opinion. Please do not count my post as anything official or authoritative.
First idea sounds horrible, although it could be implemented as a kind of utility in game to switch your enemies screen temporarily.
I really like the second idea. When better to share your thoughts on a map, than when you are playing said map?

Since when was wormkit restricted to T17-authorised content?

I did not say that (to WormKit). I mean the idea can't be done in official manner. Third-party plugins can still achieve it.
Oh, ok. Sorry, it seems I misread part of Katies post.

reverse gravity could be interesting if just the worms are the affected.....but if everything is affected by the reverse gravity, its, like plutonic said, a simple flipped rendering....just use your video card driver for that (?)
I'm thinking more of a game mode or a utility that allows to change the direction of the gravity for a limited amount of turns in 90° iterations, or even random angles.
Or even more outlandish, how about a constantly, slowly moving/rotating/tilting landscape with appropriate gravity?
Would give Meat&Potatoes' TitanicB map a whole new immersion! :D

How about making a weapon/utility that reverses the gravity just for a few turns in the game?
(and how shall the water level react on this?)

Would be awesome but so long as it only happens when a player is in control of a worm, otherwise it will get stuck in a loop.

APPARENTLY turn-changing during the constant movement of another object is possible.
Update on this: Entuser is working on something that, if I'm not mistaken, should make something like this far easier.
Would be interesting to show Pisto how to do it so that his Anti Aliased bounces can't hang a game due to a worm or mine getting stuck.

Man... this would make for something interesting level ideas...

The possibility to change turns while another object is still moving and dont cause a desync could change the worms gameplay dramatically......
I would love to see moving land mines D:

Heh, this isn't quite what you have in mind, but it's close enough. Playback at 4:25.

Funny trick. So thus you can jump into water (knocked by a mine or while hanging on rope) and don't lose your turn? :D
btw extremely exciting match.
You can't actually activate Worm Select on the rope or during a jump, so no. But under /teststuff conditions, I do believe that it should be possible.
I'm a big believer in standardised schemes, though, the experimental builds don't appeal to me much... :p

BattyRope allows that, AFAIK.
