WormNet Never Joins Channel

I found my super old Worms Armageddon CD a couple of days ago. It installed fine and I can play single player, etc.

But when I try to do something online, it doesn't work. I can connect successfully to wormnet but when I try to join #AnythingGoes by double clicking, it stays there, the refresh buttons get grayed out and nothing else happens.

Sometimes, several minutes after that, it'll say something along the lines of lost chat connection.

Can anyone help me?
I'm using Windows XP, version 3.6.29.0. Not sure if my specs matter.

My internet connection is not that fast but it's also no 56k connection.

It doesn't need to be fast (the technology in use at this point in the Wormnet process is ancient from pre-56k times).
