Hi All,
i only want to know if the new worms game will be downloadable only or will it be sold on disc too ? personally i prefer the disc version because 1- i dont buy anything from steam even though i was forced to use it to play MW2 (disc version) & 2- because i can use the disc to play the game on my laptop when i'm away from my main pc. :)

steam is fine.... i hope they will implement the steamworks in the game.... matchmaking would be lot easier... and you can install steam on more then one pc... so i dont see the problem

Forces you to register for a PayPal account or to get a credit card though... i have no problems with Steam but especially for younger players it would make sense to sell it on disc as well ;).

There will always be good sides as well as downsides when it comes to decisions. I can inform you - that IF you install a game on a computer explodes with the disc inside! But the game is not gone, because you seem to have a Steam account, to which the games are "attached" to. Who knows, the online game-selling thing might be the future.

Oh no, there is another option. You can use ClickAndBuy as well. I prefer ClickAndBuy because it is faster.

I doubt it. No CD printing or publishing costs

Gotta be 18+ for that as well dont you? Well as i said i dont mind buying it over the internet... Team 17 could fish a larger audience though if they sell it on
disc as there will be many kids interested in this game i guess.

That's the same exactly thing I said in another topic and I talked about this on Facebook directly with Team17. But they decided to proceed in this way. I think they're going to test the market or this game is dedicated to old players only, the ones who like 2D worms games.

Kids will ask their parents to buy them from steam i guess... In my country you can get credit card on the age 12... not a full credit card tho, but works with steam ;)

If it's 18+, then I am doing something wrong :p
I have been using them since the age of 14. (Currently: 17)

Ontopic:
Don't think it will be on CD, unless they add ALOT of new content compared to Worms2: Armageddon on the Xbox.

It would have been nice if Steam would actually sell vouchers to use on Steam (like the PSN vouchers for the PlayStation Network). Add in an overhead fee of 10% perhaps and sell ones of €10 (shop price: €11), €25 (in shop €27,50) and €50 (guide price: €55)
And when used, it adds €10, €25 or €50 (depending on the voucher purchased) as credit to your account (if you were to have €5 credit left and then pay with PayPal, Steam could then subtract that €5 from the PayPal bill).

But ah well, we'll see.... It makes no sense for Team 17 to try to sell the game in physical stores when they have no publisher to cover the costs for that nor own funds, so they sell it on Steam first and if it becomes a hit then they will probably go on to the stores.

With the low price and STEAM as distributor, this game definitely will be a hit.

However, I DO HOPE that this game really will be an improved version of WA2 with new things like themes or weapons. :/

Also, regular updates with more content. Don't just release a game. Team Fortress 2 is a good example.

Indeed! I would love to see that.

Team17 have pretty much moved away from disk-based distribution altogether now. Why? Because it's actually really expensive to have a full publisher compared to self-published digital download on Steam! Even with the significantly larger audience to market to, it would still result in a loss for them.

I wouldn't hate Steam so much if they did start selling voucher cards through retailers as it is still like holding the game disc to some extent. (you still face not being able to play the game if Steam went broke/offline or got blocked by ISP.)

The only game credit I've ever bought online was for the Wii and that's because there's like a 15$ markup at retailers >.>" it is a piece of paper! why the gargantuan price hike?

Worms 2: Armageddon --> Released on XboxLIVE Arcade --> No Disc
Worms 2: Armageddon --> PlayStation Network --> No Disc
Worms Reloaded --> Steam --> No Disch

See what i did there?
I dont see the Point why they should release it on a Disc. And if they allow a "free-weekend" like for Team Fortress 2 when Modern warfare 2 hit the market, There are goin to be some PPL who will defenitly buy this piece of gold.

Except that there will still be a ton of kids who can't play it because there parents won't be so keen on online purchases/inputting there credit card info into a website. The game would likely still need an account and an account would likely need a paypal or credit card assigned to it before the account will be created.

I know my idea of a voucher scheme won't mitigate the need to register an account or provide credit card/paypal details, a disc however, would.

They'll probably gauge how well the Steam version does and do a retail release if it's worth the cost and a publisher.

You can create a Steam account without credit card/paypal details. Which is a reason as to why I'd like Steam to retail vouchers at a higher mark-up price (to cover the administrative/overhead costs for the vouchers). Add it as credit on the account, and make Steam try to empty the credit first before any payments. Allows purchase of games through Internet without having to pay online.

Yes, Steam is pretty nice. I have 32 games on Steam and the new GUI is awesome.

Indeed. Steam is one of the best things which could happen for the PC. I love this plattform.

The only annoyance is the fact that it requires being online in order to play your games (and that is the issue for one of my mates, he doesn't have internet...)

But myself, I just like Steam. They detract a bit from the gaming experience, but do add a lot of actually good functions (such as chat overlay regardless of the game, web browser and so on).

I saw that someone has talked about the worst problem Team17 is gonna face with this decision (no, I don't mean using Steam, but the online purchase only): Franpa is correct. Parents won't be so kind to use paypal or credit cards just to buy their kids games.
So.....there are two possibilities:

a) Team17 is texting the marketpiece. If they see enough people, they won't leave their idea. If they see not so much public, they need a retail system.
b) Team17 is pointing as target not the kids, but the 18+ people. And I think this is the most probable hyphotesis. Why? Because they said 137473 times this game is for "Worms Armaggedon Fanboys". And now the fanboys, started playing 10 years ago, are mature people over 18. They don't consider the others...just because they aren't important as fan are.

If you want the proof, I told to BigBoss the whole thing and I discussed, but he said he knows Team17's target. So....or they're pointing to us, over 18, or they don't ever consider the problem of this system for PCs. The future is the only one that can answer.

It doesnt need to. Kust start it in offline mode.

Offline mode is pretty broken at the moment, Valve is working to fix it. Strange thing is, it affects both the normal version and the BETA GUI.

You really want me to stay out of this game? Because I'm not 18? And why do you think I wasn't interested in WR? I also played WA for years y'know, started around 2001, that's nine and a half years of playing it!

I need a credit card to buy games using Steam? Okay, hope my parents do this for me :p

EDIT: Let me also say that this game hasn't much to do with Worms Armageddon anymore, though the console versions are called "2 Armageddon", considering physics and stuff, its more a mix of Worms: Open Warfare 2 and Armageddon. But much more OW2 than Armageddon.

I use PayPal with direct debit from my bank account. I never owned a credit card and i really don't want one. Too expensive and not enough control. Never had any problems.

I think he worded it badly, he was saying that Team17 said at some point, the game was for the fanboys. I however think there is no problem for anyone else to play it. Then he touched on the topic about distributing the game in a retail store.

Master card = Credit card right? or you referring to there Debit cards that would likely require a parents signature to get?

kutagh

You can add a bank account to your paypal account and use that to purchase games through steam (you need to put the money on your paypal account first though, or you'll need a direct debit/credit card for instant payments without balance).

In fact, Franpa is correct. I'm not saying I don't want people under 18 (because consider that most of my friends and members of my ex-clan are under 18). If I say a thing like that, it's pretty contradictory.
I talked about retailation system used by Team17 and I tried to explain their decision under a different point of view.

You don't need your own bank account for PayPal.
Your parents simply transfer the money from their bank account to your PayPal account, because PayPal actually IS a bank.
The parents' account won't be touched otherwise.

About that whole kids & online sales debate:
Just look at the consoles and their online stores!
The prime target audience for a console like the Wii are in fact kids who don't have their own credit card, but still they have tons of online-only games and parents seem to buy them - a lot!

IIRC, T17 had very good sales of their previous download games on XBLA.

Consoles have pre paid cards though, like WiiWare Points cards.
