Applications for the Beta are now closed. We have had an amazing response and are sort through the hundreds of applications right now.
Be sure to check your emails on the 1st of march to see if you made it.
Team17 are pleased to announce that we will be conducting a limited closed beta programme for the Steam version of Worms 2: Armageddon, to commence on March 1st 2010. Specifically, the beta will be focused upon network performance, and will not be offering any Singleplayer content.
The beta version of the game is for European residents only and will consist of the entire wealth of options that the game offers for Multiplayer. We are unlocking all worm customisations, weapons and game modes for you to play with online against fellow Beta participants.
Application Process
If you would like to take part, you will need to use the application form which can be found at: http://www.team17.com/beta/Worms_Steam_Beta_Application.doc. LINK REMOVED: APPLICATIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED!
Please download it, fill it out electronically and send in an email to wormssteambetaapplication@team17.com.
You will need to attach a DirectX diagnostic report to this email for your application to be considered. More information about this can be found below.
DirectX Diagnostic Report
When applying, please attach a DirectX diagnostic report to the application. Applications that do not have a DxDiag report attached will not be considered for the beta programme.
To obtain a DxDiag report, click Start, and select the menu item Run. Type DxDiag.exe and click Ok when the window appears. The report can then be obtained by selecting Save All Information, and can be attached to the email as a text file.
Team17 Forum Account
To participate in the beta programme you will also be required to have a Team17 forum account to allow you to gain access to the beta forum. You can sign up for a forum account at http://forum.team17.co.uk/register.php. Applications that do not provide a Team17 forum username will not be considered for the beta programme.
Steam
You will need to have a Steam account and the Steam client installed to participate in the Worms 2: Armageddon beta programme. We’ll be using Steam to provide the beta build to you, with the client allowing us to provide updates to the game on the fly, effectively streamlining the beta process for all involved.
For more information please visit http://www.steampowered.com.
Caveat
Please remember that the game is in a pre-release state which has not been optimised for all systems, and will in no way reflect the quality of the final released product. Participants will be required to agree to an NDA preventing the discussion of the game until after the beta programme has ended. The beta programme will be active for a limited period only and Team17 has the right to withdraw the beta programme at any time without explanation.
All personal information collected by Team17 during the beta programme will be stored locally, used only for the purposes of conducting the beta programme and will not be disclosed to any third parties.

I was excited until I read European residents only. What's the reason for limiting it only to Europeans?
PayneTrain
15 Feb 2010, 16:39
Hi Wormetti
We have limited the Beta to Europe to make sure that the Beta testers are online together at a similar time.
As the Beta is quite small in terms of numbers, we felt that opening it up worldwide might spread the user base too thin, making it harder for people to get a game.
Sorry it counts you out, should we choose to extend the beta worldwide we will update this thread.
awesome! I've sent my application :D
Wormetti

I'm usually awake when most of Europe is but no matter, it's great that you are doing online beta tests for Steam and even PSN. I wish more developers would do the same.
Sent an application!

It's not about ping, they just want the testers playing at the same time and that's less likely if they are from different continents.

You're not allowed to show videos of this since it comes under the "General Provisions"?
Akuryou13
16 Feb 2010, 20:50
You're not allowed to show videos of this since it comes under the "General Provisions"?as a general rule, when you're a part of a beta test that's under an NDA, you aren't allowed to give any information about the game or its contents to anyone. legally speaking, you aren't even allowed to tell the people who live with you what the game is like. realistically, just don't post any information anywhere on the internet, videos especially, or give out any concrete details to anyone you know. Being a beta, things could still be changed, and so if you start telling everyone "Dude this ______ is awesome!" it could very well be removed and your friends disinclined to purchase the game because of it. or if you say "that _____ is terrible" you could prevent sales even after that feature is removed.
generally, if anyone finds you sharing information about a beta test, they kick you out of the beta, so it's in your best interest not to go blabbing as well.
ok thanks. it's just that i've seen many videos of betas so i was just curious. ^^
ok thanks. it's just that i've seen many videos of betas so i was just curious. ^^
There are a number of betas out there that are "open betas", which are usually free for anyone to try out and don't have an NDA attached (obviously the beta stops working after a while). You probably saw a video of one of these.
I wonder how many received the NDA already and signed it....
Note: You're not supposed to tell you've signed the NDA if I'm right...

Note: You're not supposed to tell you've signed the NDA if I'm right...
That depends entirely on the NDA. Some NDAs contain a clause stating the existence of the NDA may not be disclosed, this is rare however.
Stating you've signed an NDA is otherwise fine (unless the above happens to be the case).

You're like a secret agent now.
And by signing this NDA, Team17 have the right to court-martial and shoot you.

Some other games I've beta-tested also had a NDA with it, which was simply being told (and no specific document shown).

Good luck with it! Though I'm sad we only get to know it at that date. Would love to hear it earlier if possible, even though the only thing we can do is chatting and introducing each other in the beta-forums (as well as make 'appointments' to blast each other to hell when the beta has launched) and you could have us preload the client in advance, with patching at last minute for the final version...
But whatever fits your programme... I'll look forward to it :)
Found out about this too late, oh well. I'll still buy it when its out.

And I ask it too because I sent mine Wednesday and haven't recieved anything yet. Can we have a confirmation email to be sure please:D
I think Plasma meant "After sending the beta application form with the diagnosis" because that was the only confirmation email until receiving the key for me in the previous beta.

Heh, that's why you should always try to check your statements before stating them IMO. Prevents such confusion (and potential flaming).
So if you received the request to sign and return the NDA, you're fine. If you've sent the beta application now and didn't receive a request to sign a NDA in a couple of days, well... Not going to make statements.
Didn't receive any NDA and I sent mine off early yesterday. Really hoping that this doesn't mean I'm not in.

I can't believe I missed this!
I have been playing Worms since the original on the Amiga; this series was my childhood and habours a plethora of fond memories. I recently rediscovered Armageddon and World Party and had more fun with the multiplayer than any other game since Quakeworld.

I hate my impatience, i open my email client every few hours to see if i got an email from Team17. And i know that i have to wait until March, 1st, i just don't want to.
At least there will be a Mass Effect 2 Patch which will fix my problems with crashing and stuttering videos. Then i can finally play without removing several loading videos and using an additional fix that causes a heavy performance issue, but avoids other issues like the IFF crash.

You're supposedly living right in the middle of Europe and obviously have not the slightest clue about it.
You should get a geography book and learn some more.
Check this map outlining the borders of Europe and denoting the countries that lie within them:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe#Definition
I'd also like to point out that:
Russia is NOT in the European Union
He has no idea what the European Union is.
I'd also like to point out that:

But Rusisa is not part of the EU.
Russia is situated both in Europe and Asia. The most of russian people lives in Europe.

Russia is a bicontinental country. That is, it spans two continents (the Wikipedia has a list of countries that do so).
Half of Russia is in Eastern Europe and falls within the European boundaries, the other half is in Northern Asia.
The majority of the Russian population seem to live in the European bit.
Russia is not a continent.
Check facts before spouting them out as such, it makes you appear less ignorant (largely because it does make you less ignorant).
You are right about thing though; Russia is not part of the European Union.
....I think that's enough "Russia is not a continent" posts for one day, guys. Give it a rest.
But Rusisa is not part of the EU.

I know it seems unfair missing out by an hour but they have to put the deadline somewhere. If they let you in, what about the person who submitted theirs an hour after you? They'll want to be let in too!
Everyone will have a chance to play the game eventually, you just might have a slightly longer wait than others and it might cost a bit more.

Got my NDA today. Was interesting to read. The Battlefield Heroes NDA was a lot more restrictive and hard to read.
That doesn't mean i'm in the BETA, they said the final decision is yet to make. But at least i'm in the final round.
I don't know what to make of people posting inmediatly in the public official thread after receiving a NDA contract.

The NDA doesn't forbid to talk about the NDA. So there's no problem.
The NDA forbids to talk about anything regarding the BETA. We aren't allowed to copy even one letter from a Text file, if the game contains one.
The NDA of Battlefield Heroes were a lot more strict. It allowed the testers only 2 things to say: "1. Yes, there is a beta. 2. Yes, i'm participating." That was it, everything else is confidential. Even today, as the NDA still stays in effect.

Nope but you can at least remove the non-functional links so people can't complain about those (and perhaps just remove the whole application method stuff and only talk about what happens next).

Of course, I was talking about new steam accounts, not the ones you're using. I have created a new account just for Worms Reloaded. In this case, you'll risk only a new account without other games into it and, yeah, the beta participation. That's the reason I said when you're bored...because to be sure.

The first post says yes.
I think they're Americans and in the American timezone at time of this post it would be morning. So I'd guess somewhere near noon, afternoon they'd have sent out the emails, which would translate to our evening for us Europeans.... Americans/Asians likely won't get an email, because the beta is limited to Europeans (but someone might be lucky...)
Or otherwise you should check tomorrow morning again, as that's around midnight in America. For them it's still the same day, so they'd use that excuse......... ;):p

Here there is another one who's 21! =P
In '96 I was 17 and used to do alot of nerdy things. One of them was keep a digital sort of diary, sometimes audio files, sometimes text files. This is a text file dated december 4th, 1996:
Today I played for the first time a game called Worms. A very fun game to play with 2 players.
;)
hmm, no update yet...
Well then i'll just tell my story.
I played the W:A demo constantly as a 6 year old. I used to play it home and in the school (My dad was a teacher... no he's not dead yet...). I remember how i loved to play against the computer (quick match) with only bazooka and grenades. I can't believe how i could use the wind to shoot from the other side of the map to the other end with the bazooka. Too bad i lost my skill :( .
Loved the times when my cousin would come with his Ps1 and we would play wwp all the time xD.
Aah... Those were the days....
But now about month ago i started playing WWP online and it has been awesome!

@Esbern: you made me remember something.... i started playing worms with a wwp demo in a "40-in-1" CD... it had a lot of demos xD but i always played the multiplayer alone xD with kilburn deluxe, team chesh, liquid silk and brucie's heroes with the correct speechs (english, the raj, [i dont remember liquid's] and cyberworms) the strange thing was that the menus were in english but in the match the game was in spanish lol
Man, when I first started playing Worms I think I was about 5. Played it vs my dad pretty much every day when we had free time. Oh how I miss the old pixellated Worms and their high pitched screams.
Armageddon had this awesome "oooo" factor to it. When I get my hands on Reloaded I'm sure it'll be the same way.
Seems like they are experiencing some delay... Which is good anyway, considering I was almost sure to be on the Dark Side of the Luck.
I started playing W1 in autumn 1996 at school when I was 15.
A bit later in 1997 I got totally hooked on W2.
Then I played the W:A demo a lot before release. I only borrowed the full game for a short time, and a constant lack of monetary funds didn't allow me to buy it.
In 2000 I finally picked up W:A and started playing, but was soon discouraged by the nuke crash bug, so I switched to WWP in 2001 when it was released.
A year later, I switched back to W:A when Deadcode had fixed the crash issues and added online colour PNG maps.
In 2005 I improved and corrected the German translations for the W:A beta updates for Deadcode. I still have the PM! :)

People seem to have a really nasty attitude about this. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they pulled the Beta as a result, or at least stopped those with said attitude from participating. Team17 are offering something for free here, something which they do not have to do, and all they're getting back is abuse because of a small delay.
