Could you design a fort for Worms 2: Armageddon?

That’s right! Team17 are offering you the chance to design a Fort to be added into Worms2: Armageddon on the XBox360!

The ‘Fort’ game mode sees players doing battle upon a landscape made up of two Forts located opposite one another. Players Worms are positioned on their chosen Fort and the last team standing will be declared victorious.

So now is the chance for you to show us what you think would make the ideal fort and of course if you are the successful winner, be rewarded via digital acclaim of getting your fort added to the game Worms2: Armageddon. How cool is that?

All you need to do is to send us an outline of your Fort, along with a brief description. For example here is one we’ve prepared.

32702

Simple idea…’Ice castle’ style fort with the stalactites coming down in sections.

Here are a few tips for what makes this particular Fort a good idea: -

- A chunky fort (capable of taking lots of damage)
- Good access (to move your worms around the fort to chosen areas)
- Multiple fire points (to attack your enemy from)
- Awkward shapes (to help repel enemy projectile weapons such as grenades etc)
- Plenty of cover (to avoid air-strikes and the like)

So please send your ideas to us here at Team17. Email pr@team17.com with the subject, Worms Fort Competition.

Don’t forget to attach your image and give us a brief description of how your Fort should look. The competition is open to everyone and you can enter as many times as you like. Closing date for entries is Friday 27th November 2009. The winner will be announced on Monday 30th November and the winning Forts will be reworked by one of our artists here at Team17 and will be put into the game.

I like ur fort.....but I think the "fort balance" is important too.....I mean, if T17 adds a fort like urs to their game the other forts are useless.
In my opinion.....the new fort must be a good fort but not a perfect or colse to perfect one......just as good as the originals.

Volc, you should contact Hundreds (http://forum.team17.co.uk/member.php?u=87133).
He's one of the two Meat'N'Potatoes (http://www.mnpp.net/) guys, who create the damn best Worms maps hands down.

BONZ!!! Long time no talk! Got your email...

Oh crap! The deadline is so close! I have to think about this and make a decision. I don't think any of our published maps would be good "Fort" maps. I would have to rework one of them to make it that style.

Also, I am still bitter about losing to Garfield about 10 years ago when I submitted the original Titanic map in a competition along with AF1. But hey, time heals all wounds, they say...

The good and bad news is:

GOOD NEWS - I was / am still currently working on a Fort map for Worms Armageddon! Facing Dojos sucka!!!

http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=38235

BAD NEWS - Haven't done much on this since April... ahh how time flies... So I still only have what was previewed on that thread. That means I would have to COMPLETE Facing Dojos in the next 6 days. (shudders)

THE SILVER LINING - My wife and son are going out of town to visit some family this weekend and will be gone for a week or so. I may just have the spare time to make this happen!!!

Who's with me??!??!!?!

Oh crap... what are the size limitations? Does anyone know where I can go to find details about this contest? It seems, from the wording, that they just want to know what the "outline" of the fort will be. Does that mean they don't want the full color level, and just an explanation of a good idea?

They want an outline and an explanation. I don't think they'll mind if you also send a full color version, I'm guessing they only ask for an outline so that less experienced people can still have a go at designing a fort.

I'll be having a go at this too, sounds interesting. It would be nice if they gave us size limitations tho. :p

Is it just me, or is the example map at the top of this thread...

You know, a bit...

Well, the sample image that volc attached in the first post is 468*468.
I'd say adhere to a square map, but use any size you need for artistic reason.

I have no idea what the map size in W2:A will be, but if the fort mode is anything like the one in WWP, I'd guess that a regular map will be split in half with a fort on each side.

Most likely, the T17 artists will redo your map anyway to fit the style of the other maps, but seeing that you can deliver maps with great playability, I think (and hope) that it'll just be an adaptation to the W2:A graphic style.

thanks bonz,

unfortunately it is looking more and more like it wont be getting done for this contest. i will probably still submit two ideas in the traditional sense of the contest - maybe i will still win and be able to possibly work with them to finish the map or something? i dunno. i picked a bad week to upgrade to windows 7. ;)

I can submit here, right?

So here goes. I put literally no work on this. I did it in the last 15 minutes, just because I want to get this idea out there. At first I wanted to try and design some rather abstract-shaped fort that would maximize in efficiency, but then I realized that was no fun. Instead, I just want to see a large medieval knight to fight on top of.

Here's an idea of the outline, a fast photoshop sketch based on that outline, and a horrible hand drawn pencil sketch that is a bit closer to the proportions I was looking for.

I was also thinking of adding a few arrows sticking on the shield, but I don't have much time to work on this. I would expect T17 to completely rework this if it was miraculously chosen. :p

Great idea MtlAngelus. If I could make a suggestion, though, I'd say it needs a bit more land at the base of it. Maybe put the knight on a horse or something?

Well, the game already generates land under a fort. If I added a horse then I would have to reduce the size of the knight to fit the horse and then I would need a bunch of other stuff to fill in space, otherwise the fort would be rather unprotected.

Nice idea, although he'd probably need extra details or a slightly different pose to make him less "smooth" and provide more cover, so worms can't just be knocked off the top (I think your pencil sketch with the arrows works best for this).
