"This reduces the number of possible maps from 4294967296 to 210515."
I miss the old maps... :(
Are you sure that hasn't been fixed since? I mean, it does sound like something that would've been done already, it's not exactly complicated.

I reinstalled the game from the original cd without patches. The old generated maps have much more variety.
EDIT: On that note, why hasn't the Laser Sight desynch bug been fixed yet? It sounds simple too.

Well, I would assume that it would be in the next beta, but what I'm saying is, it's a pretty serious bug, not being able to use one of the weapons, yet it was decided to be fixed later along with several other things rather than an immediate fix being put out.
And not to get too demanding, but what about my original concern about the maps?

Normally, I hate to bring up an old topic, but this really doesn't sound like something that's hard to fix, and it's been broken for a LONG time (now 3 years EDIT: 5 years)...
It appears that the original reason this happened had to do with enabling backtracking through generated maps. Instead of changing the generator code to allow this feature, why not just have previous maps temporarily saved in memory? People have lots of RAM nowadays...
O.T. - I found this statement from a while back:
