Hi, I was just wondering if the ability to place your worms before the start of a match is only available online or something? Because I selected the option in a local game against the computer and it didn't do anything. Just wanna make sure Im not missing something I guess.

Thanks

The option is not available when playing against AI teams.

It would take the AI forever to figure out the best placement for its worm, multiplied by the number of worms it has to place on the map, divided by the computing power of your CPU, adding a potential power shortage, subtracting the average life expectancy in Colorado.

Are you ready for that kind of ride?

just have the computer AI use /afk :P

That happens by default... you just don't see it.

only if you use it yourself, why can't the computer use /afk while manual placement is enabled? takes no more resources then normal.

What would be the point?

Manual placement is for humans only. Random positioning is for when playing with the computer, thus having the computer forced to /afk is meaningless, unless you want to position your worms the way you like and have the poor computer place its worms a worm-feet away from water.

better then not having the feature at all.

Great reasoning.

If everyone used your line of thought we'd get nowhere.

That's a silly idea. You would effectively be giving yourself an upper-hand in the game as the AI placements will still be "random" (Reitereration)

coupled with this, you could make the computer go first in a BnG game, thus letting you place your worm in an appropriate place for a good bng game with the cpu.

All in all, it's not worth investing time in improving the W:A AI. A noob on WormNET can learn a lot of rules faster and can be better than the AI could ever be in a matter of minutes, hours at most.

As in regard of manual placement of worms by the AI, it would depend on the size of the map, the complexity of it, the number of worms, number of available weapons, rules and other stuff; Even if you have enough calculation power for the AI to analyze every aspect for any group of pixels it can place its worm on the map, it would still take an enormous effort for the developer to create sets of guides for the AI.

what about giving the human control over ai placement. yes you could give yourself an advantage, or you could not do that. im sure this would be nice for other schemes than BnG.

That's a much better idea
