See if you can connect to the WormNET IRC server. Do the following:
Open a command prompt (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt) and type:
telnet wormnet1.team17.com 6667
You should either get a blank screen or error message.
If you get a blank screen, that's not the problem (your IRC port isn't blocked). If you get an error message, then something is blocking it, for example a software firewall or your ISP.

I have an error message which means it can't connect with host at port 6667. Connect won't succeed. I had turned off the firewall,so it can be i have blocked port 6667? Early, i dont had this problem.

You will need to concact your ISP or network administrator, then.

Some Anti Virus programs (notably McAffee) also block this port. Try searching for an option relating to IRC in them, and disable this.

If nothing helps, proxify W:A and ask a friend to redirect data to you.

MihaiS_v2, how to proxify W:A?

By using proxification software or the built in feature.

By using proxification software or the built in feature.

A proxy will not help you if your ISP is blocking port 6667. You could use a tunnel but I don't think that's a viable solution. Also the built-in proxy functionality has been broken forever now (if it has ever worked). Your best bet would be to just give your ISP a call and ask them why they are blocking the IRC port.

Use proxification software and specify a port that is not blocked (obviously), and have data redirected to that port.

A proxy won't help because there is still no correctly functioning proxy support in W:A? iirc

My latest posts refer to proxification software, not the built in feature.

You said you didn't have this problem before, so I suspect something is blocking outgoing connections to port 6667. It may be your ISP's recent activity of blocking ports, it may be some application running on your PC, acting as a firewall (as CyberShadow said), however, here's a solution:

1. You need proxification software- get Proxifier (http://www.proxifier.com/download.htm) (Note that this is not a free program, but it's free to use for 31 days. For the licensed version: buy it or... you know)

In plain terms, a proxifier can make any application think you have any external IP you want- it proxifies the application.

2. You need a proxy server- for browsing the Internet, any (available) free http proxy would do, but not for connecting to WormNET. Almost all of the free proxies are black listed and you get a 720 minutes ban on the free proxy's IP you try to connect to WN with. So, you either need to ask a friend to run a proxy server on his PC (what I have initially stated- this also requires your friend to be able to access WormNet) and allow you to use it or, if a friend can't do that for you, I could help you.

If you do have a friend that is willing to help you, but he doesn't know how to set up a proxy server, we can chat on Y! Messenger, Hotmail or Skype (check my profile). I won't disclose this kind of information here, as it may upset some people who think banning is useless once you can proxify a computer with Dynamic IP.

So, let's get started.

Have Proxifier (http://www.proxifier.com/download.htm) downloaded and installed, and proceed to the following:

1. Run Proxifier - http://www.flash-bug.com/zMisc/proxifier/step1.png

2. Go to Options > Proxy Settings...
http://www.flash-bug.com/zMisc/proxifier/step2.png

3. Click Add...
http://www.flash-bug.com/zMisc/proxifier/step3.png

4. Input the proxy server's IP address (or domain)- usually this is the external IP address of the computer running the server, and specify a port to be used with the corresponding protocol. You get this information from the owner of the proxy server.
http://www.flash-bug.com/zMisc/proxifier/step4.png

5. Perform a check by clicking the Check button. Keep the default testing settings, and if at the end of the test you get a positive result ( the message: Proxy is ready to work with proxifier. ), then you're only a step from connecting to WormNET. If the result is negative, recheck the proxy information, or try a different protocol.

6. If it passed the test, confirm the settings ( close the boxes by pressing OK ).

7. Go to Options > Proxification Rules...

(To be continued on the next post due to IMG tag usage restriction...)

(Continued...)

8. Select Process Only the following + plus manually proxified, then click Add... and define a rule name and add WA.exe to the Applications list.
http://www.flash-bug.com/zMisc/proxifier/step6.png

9. Confirm the settings and you're done. If you've set everything right, you should be able to connect to WormNET. Remember, be nice... you don't want your proxy server to get banned (not that anyone will ever know you use a proxy, but you don't want to wait for the ban to expire).

These steps regard connecting to WormNET. Hosting requires you to be able to act as a server (Force IP to your actual IP if you've proxified W:A), or you can use WormNAT (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=37390) (requires special settings if you use a proxy), or HostingWhore (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=38267) ( contact me for this one ).

Good luck. If you have any questions, drop a post.

Has anyone tried FreeCap (http://www.freecap.ru/eng/) with W:A yet?

MihaiS_v2

I'll try it.

EDIT: Yeah, it works, but W:A has a strange behavior when using it:

1. You get this Error message when connectiong to WormNET. Just click OK and everything's fine.
http://www.flash-bug.com/zMisc/proxifier/err1.png

2. Then, when you exit W:A, you get this Error message, and the only way to get rid of it is to end W:A with Taskmanager.
http://www.flash-bug.com/zMisc/proxifier/err2.png

But it works and it's free. Thanks for mentioning.

(Note: Proxifier doesn't make W:A generate those errors, so it must be freecap)

The same way you'd use Proxifier. Press F5 if the tutorial pictures don't load from the first time. Proxification is not a problem. Convincing a friend to actr as a proxy may be.
