View Full Version : Customization

Over the years, since Worms 3D came out, we've been left with fewer and fewer customization options. You can't add your own flags, speechbanks, fanfares or graves anymore. You can't save a scheme file and email it to a friend anymore. You can't... well, there's a lot of things you can't to.

Customization is one of the most important things about Worms. It allows the community to make the game their own. It's one of the reasons WA was so immensely popular, and one of the reasons why Worms: The Director's Cut is considered one of the best games in the series - we could turn the game into our game.

I hope this has been taken into consideration during the development of WA: Decades.

I expect the 360 version to have very little customization options and the PC counterpart to be much more customizable, as usual. :(

I think consoles are a major reason for the lack of customisation: the console market dwarfs the PC one, so the games are designed for consoles over PCs. I imagine there's little motivation to add a heap of extra features for the smallest market.

That said, I reckon consoles are becoming more open to customisation. Modern ones all have internet connections and SD card readers or whatever.

And with the Wii's mouse-like controller advanced editing should be much easier, e.g. drawing custom levels/maps.

The touchscreen editor on WOW2 DS was actually harder to use than the WOW2 PSP editor but anyway, it's best to use a PC for editing and it would be great if any PC versions are mod friendly. Releasing editors isn't enough and is often taken care of by the community. What's needed is support for custom multiplayer mods built into the game.

Oops, I kind of repeated this thread here (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=38599), albeit as a criticism of Worms PSN and not as a suggestion for Worms 2: Armageddon.

Still the sentiment is the same in my thread and can be carried over to this thread. Bring on customisability!

I'm betting the XBLA version to have a bit more customization than WOW 2, and the PC version to be close to customization paradise :(

Hope it has a good ammount, anyway.

i think WA: decade cant miss:

From WA/WWP:
*Wormpot settings (like crate shower)
*Advanced schemme format (crate/power/amunition/game settings)
*Customization of flags and graves (in a ingame editor or importing image files[PC])
*Map customization (ingame editor or importing image files [PC])
*Compatibility with large map files (for race maps)
*More than 30 weapons (seriously)
*Map sharing online

Other stuff:
*Hats (i think its already done)
*More Darkside and movement utilities (like magnets[WOW])
*Autodownload custom speechbanks
*Custom hats (this would be awesome!)
*Custom balanced weapon (like in W4M)
*Ranked online system with secure logins

If "WA: decade" wont have at least the stuff i mentioned from WA/WWP, i think im not buying it.
If "WA: decade" meets all that requirements i mentioned before it might be the best worms game in series.

I really don't think you could draw anything much with a Wiimote.

Use the internet channel for at least two hours a day for 2 months, without a keyboard. Best way to get super-accurate with the wiimote pointer.

I reckon I could, with a bit of practise.

If any of you have the Homebrew Channel you'll see there's a paint app you can get. I've not used it much but what I did do in it wasn't that far off my mouse skills (apart from the fact that the window next to my Wii tends to cause the cursor to flick about).

That was more of a PoC (unless there's a new one now), it's absolutely terrible :p

The app itself is terrible but the point is that my interaction with the HID wasn't and I'm sure the same is true for many others.

Also: Okami.

Depending on the HD capability, number of themes, and compression techniques. I think Worms: Armageddon >= Worms, but not by much.

The DLC should probably not include soundbanks, but more themes for levels. The "objects" for the themes were somewhat small until they came out with Hell and Desert.

The weapons should probably all change except for key ones, (bazooka, grenade, fire punch, shotgun) so that's at least 10 new weapons.

Definitely more then one mode of play, you must set this as priority one.

If you are limited on space, I saw that you can set the starting health of worms. Well, you can increase the number of options of an existing feature rather then adding new features. I think feature options > total features.

Well, I have not played Worms: Armageddon, but I know what needs to be improved for the next installment on the XBLA.

If u try worms: armageddon u will c wht the current XBLA version of worms is missing, same goes for WOW ,WOW2 and WASO.
Thats why i think making new 2d worms games for pc are useless, coz the current worms armageddon is almost unbeatable when we talk about features and weapons.

The fact that Worms 2: Armageddon will be accessible via Steam is quite attractive, I think.

I reckon it will be good fun. It might not replace W:A but what's to say you can't play both? I mean, I'm probably not alone in playing Worms PSN, W:A and WOW2 within a few days.

I agree....but if it goes that way, u will get bored of "worms 2: armageddon"(comming soon) 10 times before u get bored of worms armageddon(10 yo), and i think that makes no sense (its just my opinion).
I want a game like worms armageddon, no a WOW for pc......i mean, i hope they used the name "worms armageddon" coz it will be like a new ver or a remake of worms armageddon (or at least trying to be as good as WA)....but somewhere in my messy brain i think they just used that name to abuse the popularity and success of the 10yo game.

PS: sry about my english, im a bit sleepy and it isnt my native language -_-.

I think you might be right about that but let me put it this way: there are very few games which stand the test of time as well as W:A. That's because W:A is utterly fantastic, not because any new games are rubbish. I know, I know, it's relative and your point remains valid but still, the validity of a purchase is not relative, otherwise each of us would have only ever bought our 5 favourite games.

I mean, if I pay £8 for a game and I get 8 hours of play from it then it's already better value for money than going to the cinema. If I enjoyed those 8 hours then that's even better. If the game lasts me 20 hours and I enjoy it then that's brilliant. It's certainly better value than the cinema, a football match, drinking beer, owning a car, etc. In fact, I can think of few things which are better value... maybe flying a kite, watching clouds or falling in love...

The fact that the pounds-to-hours ratio W:A has given me is probably something in the region of 1:10,000 should be considered a phenomenon, not a benchmark.

I agree strongly with Squirminator's view that customisation in the new game(s) will be critical to their success both short- and long-term, although I don't necessarily think the new game(s) will have to be remakes of W:A to be promising enough to buy, play and enjoy.

Hey, there are English speakers on this forum with worse grammar, spelling and punctuation than you. Don't worry about it, I'm sure my English is imperfect, too! ;)
