View Full Version : New VB version: What's new?
All I have noticed is that the profile page has been updated, for the better IMHO. Only gripe is that the mini-statistics box is very bare, with just age and avatar and nothing else, maybe consider adding location and country to that.
Oh, and a big gripe on the subject of country: It's gone. It needs to be back. ASAP.
I have noticed no other changes, are there any more?
EDIT: And inline editting works properly (ie the box actually closes rather than staying open when the edit is done) in Opera again. Horrah!

That's because some of the info which is normally in that box has been disabled on the forum - I believe Join date and Post Count also reside in there, but since they're disabled here they don't show up in the mini-stats box. I'll let volcadmin know and see what he thinks about putting at least Location in there

Err, no it hasn't. It's under "About Me" - first line.

We're running vB3.7, as opposed to 3.6 :p
There's a few moderation changes - we can now see previous versions of posts when you've edited them, kind of like Wikipedia. This obviously only applies to edits that took place after the upgrade.
Thread prefixes (similar to "Sticky:" and "Poll:") will eventually be enabled, allowing users to select a suitable prefix. for example, in the WA support forum, we could have such prefixes as "Beta issue", "Vista problem", and then these could be changed to "Solved".
Inline editing of user profile pages, so your location, etc can be changed without reloading the page.
Slightly better PM options that allow you to only receive PM's from those on your buddy list (renamed "Contacts") and moderators
There's probably a few more as well that are more behind-the-scenes.
Any bugs, let us know!
The toolbar at the top (the one with UserCP, Game FAQs, etc) now has a small white border around it in the Team17 Skin.
I only noticed it from a lucky time to hit the 'new posts' link.

Lol, completely missed it :p

Aw :(, can't remove all traces of a post any more :(. Does it work with deleted posts?

Finally a use for the Buddy List!

Muahahahahahahahahaha
Don't worry, we won't infract too heavily if you edit obscenities, etc, out of a post before we see them ;)

And I used to have some much fun editing messages before deleting them. :(
IIRC, most of the time I insulted the mods in those pre-deletion edits. :D

Mods can already see deleted posts :p
Cant they?
Meh, I'm not too happy about the changes. Any of them. Minor as they may be.
I find it unnecessary that the profile info which comfortably fit on one page before is spread over three tabs now, each a different height. Along with the Mini Statistics box [seemingly not aligned with anything], they break the spirit of an otherwise static design. It all contributes to the feeling that the profile page was changed to look "more like those fancy social network thingies", without actually making anything easier to spot and even disregarding the fact that people might have gotten used to where things were previously, position wise.
Not to mention the avatar preview is nowhere near the nickname now and is being scaled, which is a sin of the kind I thought was beneath everyone but MySpace. Why would anyone want to scale a 100 × 100 pixel PNG image...
Oh, I know why. So they could slap avatars into the contacts page in the control panel. Well, they're still too large to be of any use to those of us with smaller screens and anyway, who looks for people he considers friends by avatar and not nickname... At least that can be turned off.

The changes to the profile page, which are all done by vBulletin's developers and not anyone at Team17, kind of make more sense when all the features are enabled. Volcadmin felt that some of the features would be unnecessary here and would ultimately cause more problems. Such things include a "wall" feature on the profile page, similar to that of facebook. Some may be re-enabled at a later date, who knows!

Doubt it, since volcadmin has already removed them from the templates :p

The misalignment of everything on the profile page is horrible. I've seen better stuff from my peers in my GCSE ICT class.
Anyway, apart from that I havn't really noticed much different.

/me takes this oppurtunity to ask for post counts and join dates back :pjoin dates don't hurt anything and it would be nice to know, IMO, but it's not a big deal. post count is just a bad thing. people tend to measure themselves on how many posts they have.

IIRC, a few people also liked to measure themselves based on how long they've been around. Which is why it was removed in the first place along with post count.
I think.

I think.that's a much more passive thing. we know who's been around longest already. nothing anyone can do to affect that. post counting causes spam.

I don't see anything wrong with it o_o
The "Moderators can see previous edits" thing looks like an interesting addition. And I agree with the bare mini facts box thing. Add other stuff to it like Location or get rid of it completely.
Oh and if you edit a post within the first couple of minutes (before the "Last Edited by...") message shows up, mods can't see your edits. But the original post will still be shown in "Reply to thread" emails :p
Of course, whose gonna have 'reply to thread' emails set?

I did when I first signed up here and never bothered to turn it off :p Hence why I know about oft's secret message.

They're called Private messages for a reason!
