View Full Version : Computer crashes while playing Worms Armageddon
Hello there,
I got a new computer. Great, so far.
The only issue is, when I play WA for let's say... 20 minutes, the Computer crashs for no reason. The sound loops and forces me to restart the computer. I have no idea what it could be. Do you have one?
Thanks,
InZa
Edit: It happened to me the same way on the old computer.

It's possible that your CD is damaged and the computer freezes when it tries to play one of the audiotracks. Try disabling the background music.
Try disabling the background music.
Which is called "audio ambience".
That button with the speaker symbol in the options menu.
Alright, I'm gonna get a new CD.
Thanks for your advices.
Alright now:
I got bought a new CD, I re-installed WA and it keeps crashing.
What to do now? Is it my new computer, or what?

Hmm. Have you tried updating your drivers?
When your PC freezes, does it react to any hotkeys such as Alt+Tab or Ctrl+Alt+Del?
No, it forces me to reboot. I can't do anything except reboot.

Have you checked for overheating problems?
Also, try updating your drivers.
I don't think it's an overheating problem. In BIOS my maxium temperture at all my hardware 45 °C.

A lock-up like the one you described can't be caused by user-mode software like W:A. You're experiencing either a driver or a hardware problem which is triggered by W:A. I don't have any further recommendations, except checking your hardware and updating your drivers. You could also virtualize W:A (http://worms2d.info/Emulating_Worms_Armageddon).
Okay, I tried the following things now:
-Getting new CD - failure
-Disableing background music - failure
-Update my drivers - failure
-Virtualize my WA - failure
So... I have no idea what to do now...

Your computer locks up even when virtualizing W:A, or you couldn't get it to work?
I got it to work, but it crashed also several times.

In that case it's almost certainly a hardware problem.
I'll run Memtest over-night.
It might be the RAM.
BTW, how much memory does your computer have? and are you using Windows XP or newer?
I'm using Windows XP Prof. My computer has 2048 MB of RAM.
If memtest passes, try putting your memory sticks in another slot on your motherboard. I have had faulty memory slots before and memtest was passing, but windows/programs and stuff would crash or act randomly. Moving my 2x1gig sticks to the other channel, resulted in all the issues dissapearing which is how i found the motherboard to be at fault.
I had to RMA my motherboard.
First of all, thank you for your response.
I changed the slots now. I didn't try to play WA, yet, but I will, soon.
PS: Memtest passed.
So, you ran memtest prior to swapping the memory over to the other slots?
No. Memtest passed before. I'll run it again in a while.
try putting your memory sticks in another slot on your motherboard
IIRC, on most motherboards only the first channel is capable of Dual Channel support. :-/
uh, you need 2 channels for dual channel :P who said InZa has his memory in a Dual Channel configuration? does it matter if it is or isn't? everything I've read says theres basically no advantage with DDR2 memory and Dual Channel.
I suggested he should try the memory in the other slots to see if any of the slots on the motherboard are faulty. that way he knows his motherboard is faulty and can RMA or live with it.
EDIT: I may be confusing memory banks with channels... anyways my 2nd paragraph is the important bit.
