There are several severe regressions in the latest Beta. Here is a list of known issues and possible work-arounds:
Problem: Worms Armageddon no longer works in Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition.
Cause: Visual Studio 2008 no longer generates binaries compatible with Windows 98 and ME. All future 3.x versions of W:A will be built with Visual Studio 2005.
Workaround: downgrade to W:A 3.6.28.0 (http://worms.thecybershadow.net/files/WA_update-3.6.28.0_Beta_Installer.exe).
Problem: Players leaving the game, especially spectators, may cause a cascade of desynchronizations.
Cause: Bug in network code change.
Workaround: downgrade to W:A 3.6.28.0 (http://worms.thecybershadow.net/files/WA_update-3.6.28.0_Beta_Installer.exe).
Problem: Using Laser Sight causes network drops due to desynchronization and checksum errors when viewing replays.
Cause: Bug in game logic change, causing undeterministic random seed alteration.
Workaround: Do not use the Laser Sight utility, downgrade to W:A 3.6.28.0 (http://worms.thecybershadow.net/files/WA_update-3.6.28.0_Beta_Installer.exe), or force emulation of earlier game engine versions by having at least one player using W:A 3.6.28.0 or earlier in the game. A WormKit module which fixes this problem is available here (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=41830).
Problem: The Skunk weapon may occasionally poison a worm for 10 poison damage.
Cause: Bug in game logic change (attempt at fixing another Skunk-related bug).
Workaround: Downgrade to W:A 3.6.28.0 (http://worms.thecybershadow.net/files/WA_update-3.6.28.0_Beta_Installer.exe), or force emulation of earlier game engine versions by having at least one player using W:A 3.6.28.0 or earlier in the game.
Problem: Instant replays may sometimes crash the game.
Cause: Bug in stereo sound code.
Workaround: Downgrade to W:A 3.6.28.0 (http://worms.thecybershadow.net/files/WA_update-3.6.28.0_Beta_Installer.exe), or disable instant replays in scheme options.
The above issues are expected to be resolved in the next Beta version. More issues may be added to the list as they are discovered and confirmed.
