Why the hell aren't you people discussing this (http://news.spong.com/article/16093/Exclusive_All_New_Alien_Breed_Confirmed)?

I reckon it will be for WiiWare, PSN or XBLA if that site is right about it being non-tangiable. WiiWare is probably false, due to Spadge's blog.

And is it just me, or does that site make him sound like Gordon Brown, calling him Brown?

And where is spadge's blog anyway, I seem to have lost it...

I love having inside information, even if the Insider isn't an Insider anymore.

And you better make a PC version and release it on Steam -- or else!..

(Or else as in or else I'll have to buy a 360, and I could use the money!)

I just hope it is on either WiiWare or PSN, otherwise I'll have to buy a 360 or a new PC.

Unreal 3 engine - wouldn't bet on WiiWare. PSN maybe, but I think XBOX Live is the most likely platform.
Which is why I hope they'll release it on Steam - A PC port shouldn't be so far away from the 360 version, and if piracy is a concern, Steam should be a somewhat safer platform. Plus it's a perfect match for the game since it's supposed to be available thru download.

WiiWare certainly could be a problem, as its the only system out of the three which has been cracked. It also would not do the game justice and most people don't even consider it a "this gen" console.

Mind you, I think Nintendo did themselves a disservice to begin with as there are NO demos/trials of Wii games which stopped me buying ANY WiiWare games personally. Also a lot of the Virtual Console titles are lame versions. A lot of the titles were FAR better on Amiga or even Atari ST than the consoles they decided to use. R-Type for example I would have bought if it wasn't a crap version. Thankfully a remake is coming to Xbox 360 anyway and I will buy that.

Sadly I do not have the money to risk buying games I can't try out first or emulated console versions which are inferior to the versions I played (ST and Amiga). I already made that mistake on Playstation Network and thankfully they are releasing more demos now as otherwise I wouldn't be buying on there either.

My primary digital downloads are Xbox 360 purely because its quicker, easier and trials for ALL games. I would never have bought half my 360 games either if it wasn't for the demos (Crackdown, Dead Rising, Test Drive Unlimited, and many more).

My only regret is that there are no Amiga ports (so far) on there. Alien Breed is great news especially as I never bought the game on Amiga only borrowed it from a friend (had no cash at all in my teenage years).

I hate those ****ing piracy people, bringing a bad name to homebrew :(. I'm an active part of the Wii homebrew scene myself, and it saddened my greatly when wanky's backup loader got leaked :(

Why not try www.wiiware-world.com and www.vc-reviews.com

A fan was making an Alien Breed clone for GBA but in March 2008 he decided not to release it due to a request from Team17.

http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?p=152333

I have received an email from Team17 requesting that I halt development of my Alien Breed conversion because a new AB game tie in is in production across all platforms. Therefore, I will complete the game but will not release it or any WIPs at this time.

There was no threat of legal action from them. Just a request. Matter of fact they also pointed out that they are currently seeking programmers.... Trouble is, nobody wants us old assembly language coders anymore. They all want programmers fluent in that new fangled C/C++ nonsense.

Great news!

I have one request though: please, for the love of the flying spaghetti monster, if it has online coop play, give it a proper matchmaking and communication system this time!

Worms on the PSN has a lobby that seems to be early 1990's state of the art. It is such a pain to play it online, I almost expect to type in IP adresses of somewhere. It synchronizes everyone with the most laggy player, it has issues with the voice, it crashes and its menu structure and behavior is skullcrackingly inconvinient. When you are used to something like Steam on PC, you can hardly bare to touch it at all.

So if you can't give us a proper online play, with maybe drop-in drop-out, ingame friendslist with join option, stuff like that, then don't tease us at all with a half-baked online mode. If it is offline only, but good, and the price is fine like with your other titles, i will still buy it.

Worms Armageddon's online mode is very solid and almost always works (providing you know how to follow router setup tutorials). It provides much finer grain control than most online games today, yet remains totally stable. And what's more, it's really simple (at least the lobby part is). It uses IRC and HTTP, both standard protocols, so today it would only need a couple of libs and not much code.

Why they can't make modern online games this simple but powerful is beyond me.

I'm not sure an IRC server could cope with a million users or whatever XBOX Live has but a similar optimized protocol would be much better than the lobbyless system that most Arcade games use. It's really annoying not being able to see a list of which players are currently trying to play a certain game and even more annoying when they hide the game type/scheme.

For the least amount of problems, you really need dedicated servers for each game, so that no one has to ever worry about NAT, UPnP and other port issues that are the main cause of problems in multiplayer console games.

Of course it could. Have you been on IRC lately? The Prison EFNet hub has thousands of users!

And you can simply take the route most IRC servers take and have it choose a random hub.

Of course, dedicated servers are required. I was simply speaking of the lobby systems, most companies seem to get in-game working pretty well.

Looks great in motion, too - though you have to interpolate the final result from screenshots and the blurry VG247video in your brain. ;)

So it is another timed exclusive for the X360? Not a real problem with me, but please use the extra time to make the PS3 online part worthwhile. I know Microsoft has better tool support there, but we Sony users still like our world wide gaming... :]

Eurogamer has a nice article revealing gameplay.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/alien-breed-evolution-hands-on

Best thing is to hear that the different enemy types will interact to make battles a little more than a blunt assault accompanied by three differently pitched dying sounds. Three chapters sound extremely good, timed 360 exclusivity is a bit of a let down. Don't know what to make of comic strip story yet. Overall it's still a no brainer to buy.

I am also glad to hear Team17 being happy with the amount of money they earn on digital distribution.

Since I posted this in the wrong area I will post my thoughts here.

As a long time Amiga fan I can't tell you how stoked I am. I had been waiting for the PS2 and was heart broken when it was canceled. Now it looks like we are all going to play the classic Amiga game. I understand it will be in 3 parts. Any chance the last part will be in 3D? *please*

The 360 version will be released first with the PS3 and PC version to follow. For me I will be waiting for the PS3 as this system reminds me most of the Amiga.

Well, the game is already in 3D. I'm guessing you mean for the last part to be a FPS?

Hi everyone,

Just found this video on Team17's youtube page:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfY9Sqe4reM

The environments look fantastic. The original was a classic so I'm looking forward to this one.

P.S. - My apologies if this was posted somewhere before. Also wish all the best to Team17 in pulling this one off well :D!
