Eh, if that's how you put it, I once made a mission on wwp, where crates never stopped falling, in the same spot. Each crate gave you extra seconds, and... well, it was just ridiculously HUGE. Also, got trapped, and got hurt, and since the crates never stopped to fall, "retreat time" never came.

Fun thing is that I saw crates falling until I made the calculation of how much time seemed to remain, and it was 6 hours :p

The game didn't let me press Esc, so I was trapped. I unplugged the PC :p

OH, yeah, my point is: If that's the case, the answer's INFINITY (Or as much as your pc can handle)

How about if the question has only one distinct answer, only 1 person gets the point?

Do you know what other sort of thing might be awesome? Something like that 1 second grenade question, except WE mark on the picture where we think the grenade will explode, and the closest 3 people get points.

Why would that be the case? That's silly. PM's would be to avoid echoing. Posts also contain date and times, so if we want to go with first in first served, then there's no point in switching to PM answers.

franpa

Shadowmoon said that PM'ing was a bad idea because you dont know who to give points to when multiple people PM the correct answer thus making YOUR suggestion muzer, a bad one. I simply corrected him.

Echoing is repeating the same answer as the person above, and HEY! people can't repeat that if they can't see it! Echoing is just repeating the last person's answer, and if you use only PMs, it's fixed. If it wasn't for that, why did anyone even suggest PMs in the first place?

Perhaps one day when you grow up you'll realize that just because I am able to identify a problem doesn't mean I have a personal problem with it.

The problem will be counter productivity. If a PM system was adopted, it would become impossible to echo answer and therefore there is no reason to have a first in first served policy to rank, as it'd be much more logical to give the same amount of points to all of those who got the answer right.

After reading this, tell me, doesn't it make sense? Doesn't it strike to you as something you could have figured yourself alone if you put a bit more effort?

Sadly, communication doesn't work in a way you can change the meaning of phrases and expect others to read your mind.

That makes sense, I can only assume you were previously posting in another language that looks like english though, as that wasnt decypherable from your previous posts

It was totally decyphrable. You're just not capable to read between the lines or understand the context. Next time something of this nature happens use the PM function and I will gladly guide you through a thread.

Basically, Franpa and Shadowmoon were arguing about something completely trivial and irrelevant, me (amongst others) stated why their argument was irrelevant, you jumped in, totally clueless, and it dragged on to this point.

Yes, you have a point, but relax! While reading that, I imagined Splinter roped to a chair, and you pointing at his head with a shotgun.

Yes, I do have a point. I wouldn't post if I didn't have one. And it's a simple enough point that the usual suspects who continuosly challenge everything I have to say just because they can would take 1 minute of their lifes to try and understand they'd probably save me the trouble of having to get annoyed at them and repeat myself over and over. I don't have infinite patience. I don't even have much patience, at all.

What? Who exactly "wanted" the same point I said (if that makes any sense)?

You offered A alternate more logical approach to scoring, my approach is just as valid as yours, but is less sensible.

No, you were debating the procedure of the recently suggested PM system. But you were doing it wrong because you didn't fully understand the reasons behind the suggestion of said system. You were explaining a struggling Shadowmoon that the PM system was adequate because it still allowed date and time data to be able to award points to first, second and third answers. This is all I pointed out, that it was irrelevant information you were giving, and explained why. Obviously, this had to become a drama fest because third people felt like being my mom and others felt like just being themselves.

Wouldn't it be betetr if SupSuper asked the questions and accepted answers by PM or email, and you guys used this thread to discuss the Pop Quiz?

Just a thought...

Muzer
8 Sep 2008, 17:08
My intention was for everyone who got it right to get the same amount of points (if the PM system is implemented). It doesn't work currently because of two reasons:

Echoing: As has been said, people just copy the first person who answers (who usually is bonz)...
Time Zones: People who are awake when you post the questions obviously have an advantage

Both of these could be removed by implenting a PM system and scoring everyone who got it correct the same amount of points. Also, post everyone's answers at the end so we can laugh at people, that's what makes it fun. Keep this thread for posting of questions, discussion, and humiliating people.

If anyone has a problem with that, don't clutter up this thread, PM me about it.

God, be quiet. This is the current best thread on the forums and we doesn't need to get ****ed up. Sure, echoing is obnoxious, but it's funny when 20 people follow a wrong first guess.

Also, SupSuper is a really smart guy, he'll read over your suggestions and decide what's right for HIS thread, we don't need to argue points in the thread and screw up this nice game.

Alright people, settle down. I know this forum is a drama magnet but geez.

I'll admit the rules weren't exactly the most well-planned, it only worked while the novelty lasted and not when people decided to become lazy sheep. :p But there was also a lot of sloppy moves on my part, so I need to start from scratch. I can't just patch up the rules and keep the quiz going as if nothing ever happened, that'd be completely unfair, we need a clean slate.

For one, I agree that the quiz needs to be more balanced and fair. Maybe a lottery system where there's one big score that's divided equally for every correct answer. This makes for fair scoring for easy and hard questions, and gives people an incentive to try and lower the opposition's score. And I'll probably start taking answers by e-mail. (PM is nice but incredibly limited and bothersome to sort through)

The questions also need to be more fun yet challenging, instead of conveniently obscure. People liked the screenshot thing so I'll probably do it more, and other silly creative things I can come up with. And I'll probably stick to Worms this time since it's something everyone here has played, and it keeps me from having to dig into obscure facts not even I am sure about.

I'm not sure letting everyone write in their answer is a good thing, if anything, it makes it harder to judge what's correct and makes the whole thing more ambigious, so I might use a lot more multiple-choice where appropriate.

But, in the end of all of this, I'm not sure I can run a new quiz. I am a busy man as I'm sure you've all noticed by the way I make a mockery out of schedules, and this won't improve with me going back to uni next week. So for now this will stay in a planning phase to leave you people to chill and maybe I can come up with a way to make this work. We'll see.

So, closing down this quiz: The correct answer was 6 (+1 bonus level but that's not a world). Bonz gets 3 points, franpa gets 3 points, MtlAngelus gets 2 points, Muzer gets 2 points.

Bonz wins a "I Didn't Echo And All I Got Was This Lousy Award" award for finishing in first place, Muzer wins a "Most Outrageous Recovery" award for finishing in second place, and SomePerson wins a "I Made It This Far Without Even Being Here" award for finishing in third place.
