View Full Version : How to record Worms Armageddon gameplay?

I've been trying to record Worms Armageddon gameplay, but I haven't found anything that works. CamStudio somehow disables the menu and Fraps slows it down to 3-4fps. I know it's not my computer, people on youtube were having that problem with Fraps too. Any other good programs?

You can use the "Export video" feature to extract sequences of stills from replay files. See the Readme for more information.

use fraps on a replay of the game you played? that way the lag is irrelevant.

I got a similar question here:
How can I record videos of games which were played with Wormkit?
So far the only method I know is that I can open the "games" with Wormkit.exe but that's only to view the games, not record them.

Create a shortcut or enter in the command line:
WormKit.exe WA.exe /getvideo C:\Path\To\Replay.WAgame

You can use the "Export video" feature to extract sequences of stills from replay files. See the Readme for more information.I can't seem to find that in the readme, I've pressed Ctrl+F and typed in video and replay and neither of them found anything.

Using fraps for video recording just won't work with Worms Armageddon, the video it records is at like 3-4fps so it's unwatchable.

Thanks, I downloaded WormKit and I got it to capture all of the frames, but how do I make that a video?

You just use a video editing software, import the frames in their chronological order, then export the sequence as a movie.

I've been trying to use Camtasia to record online matches of Worms alongside chatting to them in Skype. Its to the point now where the audio, Worms audio mixed with Skype and my mic, works perfectly. But the video suffers color issues. Framerate-wise, its fine, but you can most easily tell in the background where the colors are mostly entirely off, which ends up tearing the video asunder somewhat. Some sprite effects also show a little discoloration.

I'd like to be able to avoid having to work in post to add in Skype chat, creating a video similar to this Google Video WA online match with voice chat. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2189042708129103781&hl=en) I can supply a screenshot if anyone would like me to. But I've had no luck messing with my computer's color settings and juggling codecs and settings.

Use fraps at a lower resolution.

Set worms to play at 640x480, then exit worms and play your WAGame replay with fraps.

If you plan to upload to YouTube or you are still experiencing low FPS recordings, set Fraps to "Half-Size' on the Movies tab, this will force fraps to record at 320x240 (Standard quality @ YouTube)

Also when recording a playback, try set your in-game background to black or a solid color, Fraps can encode video faster without the background gradient+sprites.

Fraps generates fairly large files, use VirtualDub, (Free,) along with XviD codec, (Also free,) to re-encode the video, (VirtualDub can take a 100mb video and compress it to 5mb in some cases.) You should be able to google Virtualdub Xvid encoding for help using VirtualDub to compress your video to a managable but still viewable compression.

Lower movie quality helps filesize too. I've had 3Gb AVI files from fraps knocked down to 7Mb WMV's.

How do you record a Worms Replay with Fraps at all? I press the record button and nothing happens, there's no video file generated when I stop recording.

did you have the demo of Fraps installed prior to installing the retail version of Fraps?

Then that would be why the full version wont work :) contact there support for help in regards to your problem. I do have a tool that resolves the issue, but it is illegal tool. (no not a keygen or crack or anything like that, it is a system cleaner that cleans the system of certain, er, protection schemes that demo and shareware software use to enforce there restrictions.)

Create a shortcut or enter in the command line:
WormKit.exe WA.exe /getvideo C:\Path\To\Replay.WAgame

It says Invalid Start Time Entered.

So enter a valid start time, then?

This is documented in the ReadMe. For your convenience:

[CS] It is now possible to automate Export Video by specifying export parameters on the command line, after the /getvideo switch. The order is as follows: /getvideo ReplayFile.WAgame framerate-divider start-time end-time resolution-width resolution-height basename. The syntax for the values is the same as in the Export Video option dialog. At least the frame rate divider must be specified; other parameters will be set to their default values if not specified. This feature can be used to extract a single frame as an image, by specifying the same start and end time.

Yes. Also, if you are using Project X, remove it before doing so, because the screenshooting feature is broken in Project X, and the same goes to video extracting (you will see an empty folder in \User\Capture\)

Ahhhh, thanks. That was my problem. Thanks CS, too.
