xfire users post here - http://www.xfire.com/xf/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=1599751#1599751

This is where they could add Worms Armageddon to be supported on xfire.. the more ppl that post here saying we want/need support for worms the more likely we are to get it.

Cheers!

I doubt this will work.

WA uses paletted colours and as far as I know X-Fire uses screen overlays for in-game messages.

Doesn't CyberShadow keep promising to get it into 24-bit mode one day? This might spur him along a bit.

Aww true.. i didnt think of that.. oh well.. will see what they say.. i very much doubt they would do it anyways..
but oh yeah.. i just remembered.. the reason i did this was because when i was looking up what games worked with xfire i found worms 2 works with it.. In-Game Chat/Video/Screenshots.. now if that works on w2 its gotta work for WA!
http://www.xfire.com/games/ - Click W and find worms

Xfire supports palleted games fine, and I think WA and WWP use a different version of the W2 engine.

I've already tried this, as well as adding one-click-join support (http://www.xfire.com/xf/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=149309). In fact you can just go in your xfire_games.ini, add InGameRenderer=DDRAW to the Worms Armageddon entry and voilá! (http://www.xfire.com/screenshots/supsuper/?ss_file=1fa5ca407c51c42febd260ee95cb403332439808. png)

However, the reason this isn't officially supported is because it has its drawbacks:
- It slows down fades.
- The in-game messaging window vanishes as soon as WA redraws the screen.
- Video recording is really slow.

In-Game Chat/Video/Screenshots..

you can already chat in-game and you can already take screenshots, you can use the screenshot function plus vdub or similar to make video's too, so why is xfire needed?

So, go get msn messenger, yahoo messenger, IRC clients, what have you.... kinda one of the main reasons you can minimize W:A imho. stop being lazy and trying to do everything in the game when there are relatively simple alternatives available..

Where would technology be if everyone had that attitude, franpa?

Franpa are you familiar with xfire app? Or you just saying that not knowing anything about it.
Yes, im lazy, but who cares, thats not how this works. With support, ppl would be able to make screenshots, videos upload them on xf site instantly after, also theres a feature which in case someone writes to you while you're in game, makes small window pop up with written msg. One-click game joining, adding favoruites servers (based on ip) etc etc. Those are time savers.

*dropped post there*, dont care if that will work, its still worth a try.

less buggy, thats for sure. Simply because of the reduced complexity each and every program must acheive.

"Buggy" technology, is simply something that has not yet been perfected in accordance to our personal wants and needs. Progress and advancement, however minimal or meaningless it may seem, is all part of the human nature. Just look at evolution as an example! Even me, talking to you in this rather patronising manner may cause you to undertake what I am saying, resulting in one more person valuing the importance of such small changes to our world!

Personally, I couldn't care less about Xfire itself, but my hippie-like opinions stay standing.

nice speech Green ^^
maybe this all thing seems impossible to reach, but you never know... we can at least try

In order to be in accordance with my personal wants and needs, technology has to be simple and minimalistic. Translated into WA terms, that means I pretty much already have everything I need and look down on people who require more for silly reasons.

Die, hippies! :p

Allow me to remind you that my last post was referring to franpa and his "buggy" comment. If you consider W:A to be perfect, then surely you do not also class it to be "buggy"?

Of course every single person has a different collection of wants and needs, but that is simply what drove, and continues to drive our huge success and variety of advancements over the last bazillion (Or whatever) years!

I'm sure at one stage or another, someone came up to John Logie Baird and queried "What's wrong with radios?". :P

I believe his point was that adding new, unnecessary features would no doubt result in a WA [percentually] more buggy than it is now, which would result in, at least until the bugs were ironed out, a worse experience for those who have no interest in the capabilities being added. I don't actually think there's nothing that could be added to make WA even better, I merely wanted to remark that whether implementing a feature is worth lowering the entire project's "perfection rate" or not depends in part on how many people are interested in what's being added.

This time around I'm not, incidentally. Slapping in Xfire support has the potential to impede the experience for those who don't have additional software installed while playing the game [I'm thinking about the reduce in in-game chatting here], which is outright unacceptable for me.

Haha. And just look how right that someone was! The radio programme here is terrible and that's likely because everyone's concentrating on other media so much.

:p

I think the point has been completely missed. The point was to get Xfire developers to fully support WA. It's their job, not WA's, and they only pay attention if a notable amount of people ask on their forums. While WA already has in-game messaging, screenshot and video support, the point is for Xfire to also work with this. Xfire-taken screenshots can be uploaded on your profile for all to see, Xfire in-game messaging allows you to talk with any Xfire user without minimizng your game, etc. That is the point of Xfire.

Xfire is an external application that hooks into games, it doesn't modify them, it's all done from Xfire's side, and there's probably nothing you can modify about them either to get Xfire support. This is not a thread to get the WA developers to immediately drop everything to add some low-priority feature, just to call people's attention to the Xfire thread. At the very least the WA developers might help the Xfire developers in figuring out how to support it. There's no need for arguing. :)

As Super correctly stated, this is down to Xfire to accommodate their own software for use with W:A, rather than the other way around. An addition that would merely imitate the kind of affects that other messengers have on players leaving their game to chat, yet allowing them to stay in the game.

In regards to the production of television, I could almost guarantee that 99% of anyone who has watched adult pornography would agree with my view on that one :P

Allow me to remind you that my last post was referring to franpa and his "buggy" comment. If you consider W:A to be perfect, then surely you do not also class it to be "buggy"?It usually takes years for any software that tries to do everything to be on par with windows in stability (and windows aint that stable imho). Linux started before windows95 (IIRC) and has had not much less time then Microsofts latest O/S's for ironing out bugs. Linux also has far less software for it.

Good points.. there is other ways around using xfire.. but to be able to chat with xfire without minimizing every 5 seconds missing the game that your playing and just getting back in time to take your go (which i personally dont like) would be amazing.

And yeah we can take screenshot/videos etc.. but with xfire all that stuff gets saved in your online xfire profile.

No need to debait about weather we need it or not.. it'll just be good to have it working for worms.. and im sure most xfire users would agree.

I can live without proper XFire support but one thing that really bugs me is that if I receive a message from someone whilst I'm playing and then minimise, the chat window doesn't appear at all unless I close Worms completely.

Yeah i get that too.. that is annoying.

What i do is open xfire and try to guess who would be messaging me and if you double click there name as if you speak to them the message box comes up with there message.. if you cant guess just click everyone lol.
or quit.

That's not a great strategy considering I have around 30 friends online at any given time.

Aww.. hehe.. well then the only other thing would be to hope they get WA supported.. then the msg will pop up inside and all will be good!:-/
