View Full Version : TWG - The Werewolf Game

The Werewolf Game, for those not in the know. It's essentially a forum version of Mafia; see here (http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=102174) for a very good summing up of the rules.
I was wondering, would there be any demand to run one here? Either just in OD or out in OO. It could be something to help some of the more, shall we say shadowmoon-like guys to learn a bit about getting along, or we could just have it to ourselves in here :P Personally I'd like to give it a go out in OO, but I've never tried to run a game like this before. We'd need about 15-20 people for a good game.
Also, does anyone know of an IRC channel we can use? Or a suitable server programme I could run myself?
I've played a couple over at the Introversion forums and thoroughly enjoyed them, so thought I'd see if I could start something off over here.

Ooh hoo, played a number of them on the other forum I frequent.
We actually played them right in the forum; No IRC or anything.

That one was particularly nutty. EVERYONE had a special role.

this looks like it could be fun... how much time do you think i would have to dedicate to it per day? I don't want this to end up like how i've totally ruined the df thread if i join this.
Also the whole IRC thing. I should probably wait until I get back unless we are doing this without IRC or something.

make sure you get a mod response to this sort of thing.
OO isn't meant to have open discussion threads. it's meant only for gaming/geek related stuffs. not sure how T17 would take to having a thread like this there.

That could prove interesting.
Could turn fairly chaotic on OO though.

They won't mind. It's a community game so it does fit there.

We've had games similar to this before and there was no problem. Like that make-your-own-country-and-research-stuff game. Hopefully this won't fall into obscurity because there's a definite end.

Yeah, there's a very definite end, either wolves or humans win. Usually the games last about half the number of people in days (about 2 die each day).

You'd only need to check the forum a few times a day, you can get away with once a day, but then you don't really get into it. You do ideally need to be able to check it at least once a day every day you're alive though.
An IRC channel is just nice to have, not needed but helps to get to know everyone and spread some paranoia.

That's partly which I decided to ask first.
Anyway, that's awesome everyone seems to like the idea, I'll try and post the thread up tonight (need to write up a good clear set of rules, etc). I might just go with no IRC for this one, unless anyone really wants it.

I'd join this only if there wasn't IRC. I don't want to spend time logged into a chat network when I'd rather be playing TF2 (which is all the time. :p).

And the inevitable happens (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showpost.php?p=661043&postcount=34)
So, Plasma is one of
1. Stupid, for being the seer and telegraphing as such right at the start of events.
2. Evil, for being a werewolf and pretending to be the seer.
3. A munchkin, for trying to cut a deal with the guardian angel against the very spirit of the game.
4. An attention seeker.
Of course, we know Plasma to be all of these things, so that doesn't help you guys decide :p.

Is it? I thought it was quite a good tactic. Not the blurting out being a seer, but attempting to team up with the GA. The GA and the seer working together make quite a formidable team.

WHAT
AW HELL NO DUDE
Looks like fun. How much do the humans tell each other about their roles? Like does the seer reveil his position to the other humans? Some roles seem more secret than others..
Also, this game looks hard without the means of instant messaging, though I suppose PM's would do.

Normally you play this game sitting around the table, so humans have a hard time recognizing each other, as the werewolves are among them during daytime.
During night-time the werewolves have it a little easier as they can see each other and can (silently) collaborate.
The seer should keep a low profile, as he is the prime target to be killed by the werewolves, because he can see them at night.
