I dont know if its appropriate to post here or not, but it still related to worms armageddon.

So i have an iPod touch, and i have on it a Playstation emulator. So i decided to dig up some old ps1 games, and of course, i had found my old worms armageddon :D.

So i got to making it into a rom, and putting it on my iPod, so i start playing, when i notice that the explosions in the game, where very simple, like yellowish flakes or sparks, that fly out when you make anything explode. Playing Worms on the PC, i questioned where were the clouds of smoke, that were to rise up when i had something explode, this explosion animation on the pc was very detailed and far superior then the PS1's version of the explosions.

This is what i mean :

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/image_viewer/frame_lead.php?pid=199340&img=7

So i go researching, then i notice on the back of the CD cover, it shows the detailed explosion in the gameplay! ( The one you see on the N64 and PC version, the one with lots of clouds). But this is not the case in the actual game.

back of the CD cover :

So i dig a little deeper, i go on youtube and i find a trailer/preview of the worms game for the ps1, and in the preview it shows the detailed explosions.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=u3hgEF65pxA.

But this is what its like when i play the game :

http://youtube.com/watch?v=kgcAK-wK1HM (simple explosions =[)

I have no idea, why i didnt notice this before.

So, can anyone tell me how i would go about getting this version with the clouds? Or how i would get it in the game, maybe its an unlockable i never knew about? I know its a small and trivial thing to ask for, but i absolutley love the small explosion animations in PC version :P.

Use a more accurate Playstation 1 emulator or use a real playstation then come back and ask about it.

If you want animations that look like in the PC version, then get the PC version. Graphics for a PC game will often be somewhat different to the graphics of the same game for PlayStation.

I think PS1 never had explosions like PC version. And after watching second movie you linked, I see that there's much more differences that make PC version superior to PS1 version of W:A (Worm Select animation, flying Super Sheep animation, used fonts, resolution, weapons alignment in menu, team health bars, etc.).

And this preview and back cover could be done using PC version. I wouldn't be surprised.

Not to mention online play, and all the benefits coming from the updates.

The screenshots at the back of the PS1 version are shots from the PC version.

(What I also find funny is that on my sold out software CD case of the PC version, half of the screenshots show regular battles with the special un-controlable hat wearing worms that are only available in the missions. Screenshots are sometimes pretty misleading.)

The PS1 wasn't as powerful as the PC*, and they had to remove some stuff to make sure lag never happened. That's why the resolution is so poor, and there's no fire no explosion smoke. Particles take too many extra calculations per frame and I assume they were removed because the PS1 just couldn't handle it.

*errrr... obviously it never really was. You know what I mean.

Also, IIRC, the PS1 version doesn't have any fire weapons, so you'll never get any of those fiery, flaming explosions.

The PSone version doesn't have flame weapons, or proper clouds/explosions. The clouds and explosions were more or less rendered as polygonal objects to save sprite space. You'll also notice that there are frames missing on the aim rotation - it's a lot more rigid than the PC version.

These are all cuts and changes which were put in place to save disc space and memory. If WA had been released for MS-DOS rather than Win9x I don't doubt that it'd look more or less identical to the PSone version.
