View Full Version : The training missions are way to difficult

I've played Worms quite a bit and consider myself pretty good. Don't intend to ever go online since I like my own settings and people seem to play strange versions of the game (shoppers and stuff).
I completed basic training and the supersheep training but the shotgun, grenade and crazy crates training missions are absolutely impossible!
Is it possible for normal people to even get a bronzemedal..? I did my best in the shotgun lvl but I failed to even get a bronzemedal! So is there a secret trick or are these missions meant to be nigh impossible..? Have Team17 completed them..?
Just can't believe that QA (or anybody on their team) thought that it's alright that normal gamers have to perform like a StarCraft progamer to even get a friggin bronzemedal!
It is possible mate
Don't give up!
I had to take several tries to pass some of those training missions, but they are definitely possible to complete, even with gold medals.

Look at this:

Only sensible wormers to be found there, who like to play oldschool, wormy schemes and game modes, barely any rope or shopper games.

Getting Gold on some missions and trainings is supposed to be very hard. The challenge is there, but you don't have to take it!

Well, you have to if you want to get Full Wormage and the ability to edit super weapons.

It's years and years and years since I've played the WA training missions, but I seem to remember the key to the shotgun training mission is to keep the worm movement to an absolute minimum. For a lot of the targets, you can just turn round, rather than walking to the opposite end of the platform. This saves quite a bit of time.
The zook trainning should give you no problems, the only one I can think of is one were the key is "using the water".
On the grenade trainning I suggest you keep your fuse at one second and do full power straight shots, all shots except one are possible that way.
The Sg trainning, what thomasp said, there's no point in moving to the left border to hit a left target, many times you should aim for it even if it seems at first glance you will hit the girder you're standing on, try to risk it.
Also, you're exagerating, give it practice, no one needs to be a leet korean to complete those trainnings ;)

I seem to remember (it's all flooding back to me now!) the grenade training is quite easy if you adjust the bounce of the grenades for a couple of shots, then you can use mainly 1s fuses.
This might also help: http://wa.team17.com/main.html?page=good&area=play&play=trai

Someone should stick their .WAgame recordings of the training missions up for others to gleam insight from. It might even be worthwhile uploading them to YouTube.

yeah eventually that's the plan for http://worms2d.info/Mission_walkthrough_(Worms_Armageddon) but progress on that page has been painfully slow

crazy crates training mission.. [is] absolutely impossible!
Crazy Crates? Impossible? You must be joking, sir. All that one requires is good reflexes and timing.

I don't mind a challenge (always play at the highest difficulties I can manage), but not getting at least bronze after like 5 tries where I do my best (rifle range) after 10 other tries makes me wonder if they really intended it to be this hard.
I get flashbacks to the NES and SNES days where games were really difficult which the Playstation generation would never manage. (A friends sister-son gave up on Super Ghouls'n'Ghosts after a few tries f.e.)
But I'll continue and see how it goes....

You mean the same Super Ghouls'n'Ghosts that was notorious for being ridiculously hard, even past Nintendo Hard?
Lol, and yea, Crazy Crates is probably the EASIEST mission if you know how to rope >.>

Yes, it's knowing how to rope thats the tricky bit.
I completed Super Ghouls and Ghosts on Virtual Console, great game.
Campaigner, the only real way to learn how to rope is to play online.
But 1) most people kick people who don't know the rules 2) most people don't allow observers and 3) most people don't want to observe in order to learn the game :(
To me, the grenade training was the only true really hard one. I'm great with rifles and as for the rope one, well a few games of practising that and I did it great.

Everyone has suffered a bit when start to play online. Look at this:

Oh wow that was amazing. Was that Cueshark who sung the song too?
Not only is he the best Super Sheeper, but an awesome song writer too. Brilliant.

Yeah, he composed it, played it and sung in it.

best video ever to grace wormtube
'Cause I'm a newb. Oh yes I am!
Here's a decent replay of me doing Rifle Range that should cover everything required for a gold medal. Lesson one is shooting the targets before they've landed and lesson two is, I suppose, remembering the pattern in which they fall so you waste as little time as possible moving around. Also make sure not to lower your vantage point too much as you take on the annoying target that lands on your worm's head.
A large screen helps so you don't have to keep moving the camera around with one of your hands, but it isn't an insurmountable issue on 1024×768 or above.
Incidentally, I've seen Deadcode do Rifle Range for more than twice the length of the attempt attached below.

Actually, Lex went on for even longer (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showpost.php?p=529534&postcount=49).
Err. Not twice the length. I meant to say twelve times the length!
