View Full Version : Worms 5 - Any work done on it?

Really, has Team17 done any work now with Worms 5, or will it start making it now? I hope Team17 won't stop the Worms line with Worms : A Space Oddity.

Nothing has been announced about a worms 5 yet.
After Worms: a space oddity, there's going to be an Xbox 360 live game. Check out http://www.dream17.co.uk

So this means if Team17 will release Worms 5, it will take a long time to do so! :(
Is there any way to get a reply from developers?

yes, wait like we are all doing.
nothing has been announced. We have no idea if there will be a worms 5.
T17, like many other companies, tend to keep quiet about their game releases and grab us when it's nearly out. They did that with WOW2.

Did this happen also with W3D, WF:US and W4:M?
3 years from release of W4:M seems too long for me.

But I don't think with just a petition T17 will announce it. :(
Also T17 doesn't update its site for a long time. Did T17 die?

No. They won't.
The publishers tell Team17 when they can announce the game, and you don't argue with the publishers or do silly things like announce it before they say you can.

It's the only thing you can do, or just go to Team 17's doorstep and cry like a baby for Worms 5.
All we can do is wait until its announced.:p
McMaster, Team 17 don't update their own website regularly. When they post news, they mostly post it on this forum.
What is the point of creating: Is worms 5 done yet threads? just wait until its announced!

To be perfectly honest I don't really have huge hopes for worms 5 anyway. Not at the rate T17 are going. Their best game to date was around the worms Armageddon generation. From there it has just deteriorated.

Well, at the moment they are sticking to the 2D series for a while, and they may get back to 3D after that, we just don't know.....

I believe spadge said directly that they're working on a bunch of non-worms products. not to say that worms isn't in the works but it's likely on the back burner. they've kinda over-saturated the market with worms games. Team17 will be known as a one-trick-pony unless they come out with something else, so they're working on other projects.
besides, worms is getting rather repetitive. let's all get some other games from T17 first then revisit worms when there's not a worms game for every year in recent memory :p

Well, they are working on the new Leisure Suite Larry game. And I am pretty sure that with the success of Open Warfare 2 and XBLA Worms, a new Worms game will most likely be announced before too long.
And I for one am keeping my fingers crossed Worms 5 is in 3D. I really had a lot of fun playing Worms 3D online. It is going to be pretty much impossible to top Armageddon in a 2D Worms game, in my opinion. While XBLA Worms and Open Warfare 2 were both excellent 2D Worms games, they still pale in comparison to Armageddon, and were for the most part too much of the same.
At this point I will just pretend that A Space Oddity never happened.

At this point I will just pretend that A Space Oddity never happened. I was actually just going to point out that the last worms game they made has been pretty much shot down by most. Team17 just havn't managed to make any worms game on par with Armageddon. Maybe they should've stopped at armageddon? W3D certainly didn't help the franchise and theres a slim chance any worms game they make will break this inevitable demise because it will immediately be compared to the awesome WA.
Maybe they should make a turn-based game called Hedgehogs...
I was actually just going to point out that the last worms game they made has been pretty much shot down by most.
The last worms game they made has only been released in one part of the world, and only then for 8 days. Saying that it's been shot down by most is, well, just a little bit rash.

Open Warfare 2 I think is for the most part on par with Armageddon, or at least the closest they have came to it's greatness so far.
And I am one of the few who don't get what everyone's problem was with Worms 3D. I had more fun playing that game online than any other Worms game to date.

A lot of people thought it was too different from the 2D worms games. That, and it was outclassed by Worms4 anyway.

Saying that it's been shot down by most is, well, just a little bit rash.no, actually it's rather accurate. look through any internet message boards related to the game. almost everyone commenting on the game at all is saying they're not going to even bother with playing a stripped-down, dumbed-down version of a game there are already a million versions of. complete lack of online, weapon-variety stripped away, and strategy removed = crap strategy game.

I think the way Team17 implemented the games into the 3D realm worked rather well. I can't really imagine any way they could have done it better, actually. A few minor tweaks here and there, maybe...
I only played the Xbox versions of both games. I thought Worms 3D was superior to Worms 4 (on the Xbox at least) mainly because the camera and 1st person aiming was done way better in Worms 3d. In Worms 4, the camera moved way to slow, and it's 1st person aiming was done kind of on a 'grid', so you could never line your shots up as well as in 3D.
I also preferred the smaller, island-like land masses as in Worms 3D compared to the larger ones in 4.
We have gotten a bunch of 2D worms releases in the last couple of years, I hope if a part 5 is announced anytime soon, that it is done in 3D.
I also preferred the smaller, island-like land masses as in Worms 3D compared to the larger ones in 4.
The islands in Worms4 were made bigger because it was too easy to kill an enemy by drowning them in W3D.

my sig says it all. that is what a true worms game should be made of.
most of the games since world party have had one or two of these features, but usually no more. even open warfare 2, because it was only for ds and psp.
but i do have hopes for worms 5. team 17 have taken the hint- that 3d was a failure, (as demonstrated in space oddity worms pro gamers like many of us) that you need every factor going into the game to make it good, not just emphasising appearance, and that worms was born for PC and the day team 17 stops beleiving in the PC audience is the day that worms will disappear. iof they collect the good points from all their best games and organise it exactly how the feedback by thousands of fans suggested, then worms can finally go out with a bang (if they do do this and make the greatest worms game ever then it will probably be the end of the series).
!!!!!^%$£^%$-TOTAL WORMAGE-$%^£$%^!!!!!
i thought the original title would look good on the front of a box sold all over the world containing a game that would go down in history as one of the greatest games of all time. im sure everybody here hopes that will happen.

That just proves that you haven't acknowledged that the videogame industry continuously advances.
For example, take a look at Super Mario Bros 1. That was an excellent game of its time, and is the top-selling videogame ever. Now take a look at Super Mario Galaxy. Notice how Mario Galaxy is so very very very very much better than SMB1.
then worms can finally go out with a bang
Frankly, I'd prefer if it didn't go out at all. And Team17 certainly wouldn't, even without the fact that it would make them go completely bankrupt.

All video game series go out some time... and the thing is that because the video game industry has become very different from before, Team 17 have also changed worms alot, by not making a proper worms game in years...
like i heard somebody say a while ago but i cant remember who or where-
I would rather see worms go out with a bang by making the best game ever than splitting into numerous forgetable spin-offs and slowly grinding to a hault.
like super mario galaxy is so different from mario bros 1, recent worms spin offs are completely different to the origional games, which were some of the best games of their time. are you telling me that you like what the worms series has turned into? a bang should be the only way for a game series to go out. everybody here wants a big, original-looking worms game which is in no way a pathetic little spin-off that nobody will buy.

Really hope they do another Worms game for the PC and also the consoles.
Guess im in the minority here but i thought the 3D worked really well. This surprised me quite a lot because the move to 3D sucks so much for some games. Fighting games being the main culprit.
The new dimension though meant i actually started to use the rocket launcher loads and it was fun taking the wind and distance etc into account o pull off a lush shot to nail a worm just where you wanted to. 2D cant come close in that respect.
Dont get me wrong though 2D is damn fun as well i just think the edge goes to 3D for me personally.
Oh and online is a must of course. Still shocked oddity has none.
These days its such a must have feature as online play is so available and easy to do with each of the next gen consoles. PC too of course but thats been a given for years.
I just hope the next game, if it comes, isnt JUST a rehash of the same old stuff but with different names and better graphics. there's so much possibility for different weapons it would be a shame if the biggest change was the title being incremented by one.

eh? its inferior from what ive heard but surely it could still have implemented? works well with mario kart for instance. admittedly that was nintendos own game but surely it cant have been impossible.
Nintendo really need to sort that out though. the friend code system is a joke :/

Think more along the lines of Mario Strikers: Charged. In other words, no chatting between players (well, you might've been able to choose from a few generic messages, but nothing proper). It wouldn't be very much different from an AI. Team17 and THQ decided that it wasn't worth part of their budget. (Team17 is an indy developer, remember)

right i see what you're getting at now. voice interaction and all that. i actually have no idea at all what all that is like on PS3+360 but yes the wii experience is appalling.
For instance, playing mario kart with some mates online is pretty good fun but it pales in comparison to all of you being connected to a teamspeak server and therefore being able to exchange much witty banter :D
Why nintendo didnt include voice chat but with a very simple option to be able to turn it on/off and mute players i dont know. parents worried about their younger kids could then have a parental option (think they have that in some form).
For a pc geek like me its not an issue to sort out voice chat but i guess if you want no hassle setting it up then the wii cannot provide.
i imagine worms online would be much like mk with voice chat. i.e. awesome

As much as I want a new worms game, I really have stopped caring. Ever since THQ came into place, things have gone wrong. T17 needs to get away from them, and get back on track to things like caring about the older gamers. also, if the new games were aimed for new players, why are they a bit... poor. New players need to be introduced to the awsome online play, the ninja rope, the ability to creat a team from scratch instead of just editing them.
T17 needs to get back to the good stuff. also, they need to make the other side of the fans happy and make another 3D game. I just know I'm going to be quoted and corrected to another's belief, but I'm just saying my opinion.
Drop THQ
Bring back something new and old players can enjoy
And for pete's sake, give us back the ability to make a team instead of editting 5 of them

If the next worms game we get is 2D, but its on PC, then i'm okay with that because i've been waiting for that since the release of WWP, but if there just gonna keep doing 2D games all the time then you can say that i won't be a fan of them anymore.

I really don't care about 2D or 3D, because I liked both - the 2D for this fabulous gameplay and the 3D for the wormy atmosphere. But I really care about the question, when a new Worms game will come out for PC.
Give it to me NOW!
Why could they not just bring the original developers back?
1: Team17 are the developers, THQ are the publishers.
2: Because they can't. The publishers are the ones with the money, and it's their choice whether to take on a developer to make a game or not. It's like saying "I don't like my boss, I think I'll fire him".

What's Steamworks, exactly? If I understood it right, it allows indie developers to publish their games on Steam, so it would be a possible solution. Because I read that indie developers always come out with better ideas, which is probably true because they are not limited by publishers.
And here comes the "Worms on Steam" discussion again. :p

In all of the older worms games, you have had the ability to make a team. in the new ones you can only edit a team. it doesn't feel right, and leaves you with about 5 or so teams. I hate that feeling of not being able to make your own team out of scratch.

since wwp team 17 games have been failures.
Woah there! you're saying that like it's a fact! Many games after WWP are fun. for those whoe know me, they know I love W4!:D
Also, Team17 is not dead, but changing. to people such as me, and many others T17 has been a disapointment because they havn't made games for our type in a while. They're making it for newer people, and somehow that is working. look at how many new players love worms! But, if T17 keeps this up, we will stop buying their games. that will cause half (or more) of their sales to fall. If they release new games that are just as fun as W4, WA, and WWP were, then both new and old will be happy.
I have a young cousin, and I have shown him both new (W:OW2) and old (W4, and W:A) games, and he prefers the old. The only reason why new people love the new games is because they havn't played the better side of worms. When they do, they'll compare them, and love the old better. I've seen this with my own eyes before.;)

Hola there.
I'm a bit confused as to the functional difference between creating a team and editing an extant team. As far as I know (I wasn't involved in the DS versions) you can edit everything in both situations? Is it that you'd like the buttons labelled differently?

Please don't go back and edit old posts when someone gives you new information or corrects you on something. When you do it breaks up the flow of the thread and, if nothing else, makes you look silly.
Parsley: It means you can't have any more than the few you start with. And the more you make, the less for guests. Would be much easier if there were a few hardcoded and then a few slots to make new ones in place of the default ones.
Okay. So it's nothing to do with create v. edit, it's just that you'd like more free slots for your own teams?
Can't see a problem with that. I'll mention it tomorrow.
