That sounds like a software firewall problem.

Muzer
5 Mar 2008, 17:29
Yeah. Try closing all firewalls.

And don't you mean the UK server?

Are you trying to connect from work or your school/university?
Some universities block outgoing connections to certain ports, e.g. IRC.

To see if you can connect to the WormNET IRC server, do the following:
Open a command prompt (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt) and type:
telnet wormnet1.team17.com 6667
You should either get a blank screen or error message.
If you get a blank screen, that's not the problem (your IRC port isn't blocked). If you get an error message, then something is blocking it, for example a software firewall or your ISP.

1) Did you update your game to version 3.6.28.0?
2) Did you try reinstalling the game?

hunt120
7 Mar 2008, 05:21

Try running W:A with this WormKit module (http://thecybershadow.net/dump/a3be030332e2b7cc1ce2c0f7a30a3fc4/wkCrashOnExit.zip). See http://worms.thecybershadow.net/wormkit/ for WormKit itself and module installation instructions. When exiting it should show an error message - please compress and post the ERRORLOG.TXT file.

hunt120
7 Mar 2008, 17:12
can u tell me how do i compress it?
and i have this and done everything u said still notting happed plus no error came

SgtFusion
7 Mar 2008, 20:25
If you have WinXP, it's a piece of cake to compress. You just right-click on the file, and then you move the mouse to "Send To" on the context menu, and click "Compressed (zipped) folder" and it will create a zip file with the same name.

CyberShadow

Then you're either doing something wrong or not describing your problem accurately enough.

hunt120
8 Mar 2008, 05:34
no erroe comes

franpa
8 Mar 2008, 05:44
Erm, cybershadow, must the windows error screen be enabled? (not the error reporting, just the error screen). or does that not affect W:A's built in exception handler?

CyberShadow
8 Mar 2008, 13:35
Yes, it doesn't affect it.

hunt120
9 Mar 2008, 11:20
so wht should i do?

CyberShadow
9 Mar 2008, 18:34
Try closing all programs that aren't required for the game to run. Try terminating all non-vital processes using Task Manager.

dennis3484
10 Mar 2008, 23:45
Try the same with:
telnet wormnet1.team17.com 80

What if this works and telnet wormnet1.team17.com 6667 not?

CyberShadow

Your IRC ports are blocked. Either a software firewall/antivirus issue, or a network configuration.

dennis3484
11 Mar 2008, 09:51
Yes, most of the ports at our dormitory are blocked, but port 80 works. Although is it possible to use WormNET? The ingame-screen after login is blank.

franpa
11 Mar 2008, 11:07
you can configure which port it uses via the configuration screen after hiting the network button.

Melon

you can configure which port it uses via the configuration screen after hiting the network button.
That's only the port you use to host through. If the IRC port is blocked, then you can't run WormNet at all, and changing that port won't make any difference. Port 80 is commonly used by many programs and places tend not to block it, but WormNet doesn't use port 80.

If the port's blocked in your dorms, you'll have to try and convince the IT people to unblock it for you. I'm not sure there's a lot you could do otherwise.

franpa
11 Mar 2008, 13:27
true, thanks for pointing that out melon.

dennis3484
11 Mar 2008, 13:36
Thanks Melon,
unfortunately the IT guys won't forward any port.

I'm not sure there's a lot you could do otherwise.
What's the other? :)

CyberShadow
11 Mar 2008, 15:56
You don't need to forward any ports. You have to unblock outgoing connections to port 6667 (be able to connect to an IRC server).

dennis3484
11 Mar 2008, 16:01
Okay, this is also not possible in our network.

CyberShadow
11 Mar 2008, 16:10
Then there is not much you can do at the moment.
You could try using a proxifier program like ProxyCap with a proxy server to encapsulate your network traffic.
By the way, you shouldn't have the same problem with Worms World Party, which uses a different port for IRC.

You should still be able to play direct IP games though, either through the standard port 17011, or if that one's blocked too, through an open one you specified in the game's network options.

You would have to organize your games elsewhere than Wormnet though (MSN, ICQ, telephone, snail mail,...).

Hello
I also have got a problem with connecting to the server. when i click onto the link an error message appears:

Fatal error during gameserver connection, disconnecting.

I've got version 3.6.28.0_Beta and I don't have a network (=no proxy). My operating system is Vista () and the firewall isn't blocking WA.
And sure I have got a connection to the internet while trying to get into the wormnet.

So if anyone has an idea what I can do about this problem, please help.

And I'm sorry for my bad English.:)

Check if ports 80 and 6667 are blocked:

Start --> Type cmd into the search box and press enter
Type:
telnet wormnet1.team17.com 6667
After that, close command prompt and start again, but this time type:
telnet wormnet1.team17.com 80

There can either be a black screen or an error, tell us what you got for both of them.

danielm
13 Apr 2008, 10:08
There is an error. It says sth like that the command "telnet" is written wrong or couldn't be found and that for both.

Muzer
13 Apr 2008, 11:14
That's odd. Maybe telnet has been renamed in vista.

danielm
13 Apr 2008, 15:18
I found an article that says that it needs a kind of special configuration on Vista. Now I'm gonna try this and then write you again.

Yes now I can see a black screen with a blinking cursor.

Muzer
14 Apr 2008, 10:23
On both tests? If so, it is probably another problem. Wait for someone with more expertise to come along. Also, try all the other things in the thread.

danielm
14 Apr 2008, 16:31
Yes, at both.
I tried all, but no success.

danielm
2 May 2008, 12:43
Really no idea what i can do?

CyberShadow
2 May 2008, 13:16
I can't think of a reason why one program would succeed connecting and another not, unless it's either a software firewall or your network is doing something funny.

If you're sure it's not within your control, please download WireShark (http://www.wireshark.org/) and create a packet log of your connection attempt, then upload it here.

danielm
9 May 2008, 17:28
I installed it, but how do I use it?

CyberShadow
9 May 2008, 19:02
There is plenty information on the web if you search. But basically, you just select the network adapter, start a capture, try to connect with W:A and fail, then save and post the capture file.

danielm
11 May 2008, 11:17
IDEA!!
Can the problem be, that I've got a USB modem to connect to the internet? So my IP always changes. Because of that, I can't use WireShark. I can't find the USB connection there. So is it the USB modem? Or could it cause the problem?

CyberShadow
11 May 2008, 11:22
I guess this is entirely possible... I don't have much experience regarding USB modems.

OK thanks for help.

Okay, I've been trying for 2 days and am getting a little frustrated. I have entered the cmd commands to telnet. For port #6667 the connection is lost and it says it timed out. However for port #80 it shows a blank screen (which i guess means it's okay).

I went into my Control Panel and into my Windows Firewall. I've allowed the exceptions to be for Worms Armageddon with every port anyone has ever mentioned of trying (including 6667 and 80).

However, once I connect to Wormnet (and i can) I can't host a game or join my friend's game. I can occasionally connect to a random person's game but everytime I actually do it says my connection was lost and shows that I just left the game to the other players (apparently).

PLEASE PLEASE help!

CyberShadow
28 May 2008, 04:51
If you can't connect to the WormNET server on port 6667, you shouldn't be able to join WormNET from within the game. Please check your facts.

Please be more specific when does connecting the games fail, and when do you lose the connection after successfully joining a game.

Hi. I'm sorry for the confusion. My facts were correct, but i'll try to get a little more specific in hopes of finding a solution.

When I enter the cmd command for telneting to wormnet1.team17.com 6667 this is the exact error I get:
ERROR: Closing Link: [unknown@255.255.255.255] <Connection Timed Out>

Connection to host lost.

However the port 80 one just comes up with a blank screen.

So when I start my Worms game these are the processes and results that occur:
Select the connection Point
login (and it connects)
Select channel (#AnythingGoes)
Click "Host" button
No one can join a game I host - theirs won't connect to me

When i try joining a game, I select the game I want and it shows the countdown at the top and says it's trying to connect to host. Normally it will count down to 0 and say that it can't connect and to try another game.

On the occasional time when i can connect to the host, we start the game as normal but about 5 seconds after the game starts it shows that someone disconnected and i get booted from the game. However, apparently on everyone else's screens it shows that I just left the game.

I hope this helps explain my issues, but please let me know if i need to clarify anymore.

Thanks in advance!
