View Full Version : Grave colours (or colors) are different when loaded
I noticed my custom grave and Team17 graves are significantly or slightly different when the graves are displayed during gameplay but they look okay in the team details screen. I use the correct resolution (24 x 32) and 256 colours. Is this a bug?
For example, the head.BMP grave is slightly different. Before:

WA seems to use a limited palette for graves that is different to the palette for Team 17 graves. I have found 107 colours that are actually displayed during gameplay:

What it actually depends on are other colours that are currently being used by the game, as it can only display 256 at any one moment. This includes, I believe, the colours used by the map, the team health bars, the flags and possibly everything else. It's a pain, but until the switch to true colour happens in version 4.0, it's what we're stuck with.
Personally I've never noticed the problem with any of my flags or graves because I normally don't use too many colours in their creation. Certainly nothing as severe as it is with your purple chest/oven. I don't think this can be controlled in full, but one thing that I find helps with the final quality is opening the Windows.aco colour palette or "swatch" [Photoshop] before starting work on a new image. That way you'll only be able to use allowed colours from the get go and won't get any differences as you convert it to Windows' 8 bit mode to save it, at least. What the game does to it after is another story, though.

You can probably start expecting it a few days prior to its release.

I think that's because Map gets priority in colors. Try playing on a random map, made by the editor and not a png or bmp map and see if the problem is still there.

You're right. WA reduces the grave to this limited set of colours, but it's not a bug, it's because the game only uses 256 colours total, and it uses the other colours for other things. So if you want to make a grave that looks exactly as it will in the game, apply that palette to it when you're making it.
