View Full Version : Poetry
Personally, I have a bit of a soft spot for poetry. Has anyone else written any poetry of late? I was recently walking on the Isles of Scilly coastal path on a fairly overcast afternoon, when I noticed a beautiful cloudbreak; so I wrote this..

You're not the only one here with an interest in poetry. Have you read The Ode Less Travelled by Stephen Fry? Marvelous book. In its simplest form, it's a "how to" guide for writing poetry, but it's a little bit more complex than that. I picked it up on a whim while visiting my family in England back in November and I've found it to be an invaluable text.

I didn't think I was, and am pleased I'm not. I have dipped into that once or twice (my father owns it). What do you think of my recent piece?
Nice, I like your poem. The only thing I don't like is the punctuation, as there just seems to be too many commas. I think it's a lot better if you punctuate it how it should read, rather than ending nearly every line with a comma. I've attached a modification to show you how I would punctuate it, see what you think.
One other thing is that the use of "passed" in the second stanza sticks out a bit, as it looks like it's past tense when the rest of the stanza is present tense. Perhaps "passes" would sound better?
I write a bit of poetry, and some lyrics too, and I put it all up on deviantArt (http://planetbloopy.deviantart.com/gallery/#Literature). Though I don't really get out much in terms of reading poetry, and haven't really read any books which have anything to do with it. I read a bit on deviantArt though, there's some good stuff on there.
