View Full Version : First non-annual OD Worms compo! Win prizes!
Here it is folks, the first non-annual OD Worms compo! And, to mark the special occasion, first place will recieve a special free AIR GUITAR and bragging rights! First and second place also get a point (what the hell are they for anyway?)
This has now finished
Rules:
All games are to be played on WA using the standard Intermediate scheme using standard sized random maps.
The first batch of games will be played as 1 vs 1 vs 1, with each player having 5 worms. The first player to win two rounds is the winner, and all losers are eliminated. All other rounds are 1 vs 1 with 8 worms per player. The final will require 3 wins.
There is no time-limit to this competition, although we don't really want it to last 3 years *coughMonopolycough*
Feel free to post the replays of the games, in fact, it's encouraged to do so.
Entries are closed. If you wish to partake, you're too late. Join in next time!

When shall we arrange some games?
Whenever! Now if you want. Oh yeah, obviously people may as well use this thread for arranging games if they wish.
I know you and I are on GMT, but Josh is in America, so I imagine late afternoon sometime would be best.

we probably missed the sign-up thread
anyway this thread makes me want to host a compo in OO, except with the scheme being Mornington Girder (it's been far too long since i've done one of those)
i might need some OD patrons to signup too, just to strengthen the illusion that it's a real scheme with real rules

everyone would just play really erratically (for instance, just off the top of my head, being required to shoot straight up with a shotgun for a turn before you can use a blowtorch)
the primary objective would be to place the mornington girder, at which point that person would be declared the winner
We need to play online and make a spoof replay. Remember, people can see the chat log in the replay, so try to sound convincing.
EDIT: Hey! My compo thread is getting off topic!

Sounds like a plan. I'm ready.
EDIT: In fact, hop on to MSN if you're ready Josh.
everyone would just play really erratically (for instance, just off the top of my head, being required to shoot straight up with a shotgun for a turn before you can use a blowtorch)
no no no, there are no weapons
that would give people the idea that using them to kill others is the way to win
instead, there is nothing but girders, worms can't move, and you get 'points' for placing girders. then we make up some bull about how some girders get more points depending on how and where they're placed
it frustrates newbs because there is literally nothing they can do besides place a girder
some newbs quit early on but you'd be surprised how many stay behind to try and grasp the rules and gain points. if it was in the form of an OO compo, they'd feel obliged to stay behind, which is even better

Added my MSN account to my profile for easier organizing of my group for whenever suits
Just to clarify, the positions in the board were generated entirely randomly here. I didn't put certain poeple together on purpose or anything.
Oh, one thing I meant to add, you don't have to play all the reounds at once. You can always play one and finish the game off later or something, as long as it gets done eventually.

Weekend is really the only option for me too.
Also added Babylon.
I have to say my confidence isn't too high, mabye I should play a bit of W:A first.
 Best time for me would be between 5am and 11am GMT, though I could bend to pretty much any time on Fri/Sat nights.
Trying to get three of us into one game simultaneously does seem a bit ambitious though!
Yeah, the reason for the 3 way matches was because it worked out more nicely for the number of players we had. It was either that or we had some sort of "league" stage or some people played less rounds, but I felt there wsn't enough people to bother with that.

LOL. The 00:03 is the time the round has lasted, so 3 minutes in that case. Note that this is different to the round time remaining counter because this one is real time, also counting time between turns and retreat time and so on.

Heh, yeah. It threw me a bit because I'd have expected an overall time counter to read 03:00 at 3 minutes, not 00:03.

I recieved a sound beating. The worm placement in the first round didn't fill me with confidence and it all went bad for me from then on.

Well, I propose that we start up the next tournament as soon as Melon and Bloopy have finished the final in January.
This time I'd say with more people and 1vs.1 instead of 1vs.1vs.1.
Too bad, I was hoping I might win the air guitar in time for Christmas. I guess I'll have to use this one sitting right in front of me.
Me and Bloopy had a really good final, and I won 3 - 1 in the end.
Special thanks to Dario for hosting, although he can't read this (he was also wondering why he wasn't invited to the compo, but we couldn't tell him that...)

You could invite Dario to participate in the tourney next time, and just say it's called Melon's Super Secret Tourney for Friends. :p Even if he saw the image of the standings/results, he wouldn't get suspicious.
I'd say keep it in here.
This tourney already took 2 months with only 12 participants.
In OO it'll take forever if you increase the number (timezones and such).
If you don't increase the number, people will get pɨssed that they can't participate.
Besides, I don't want to play with the likes of yauhui or shadowmoon anyway.
Also, there are still some regular ODers that haven't participated yet.
I like the idea of an OD internal WA league.
If we play a bunch of tourneys, we could make an OD ranking. :)
For the next one just make sure to have a participant count x mod 2 = 0.
Playing 1 vs.1 vs. 1 isn't optimal.
Although, we could also do a group phase like in football, with 4 players per group and everyone playing a game against every other player once (3 games) or with a return game (6 games).
You'd get 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.
The two best players of each group advance.
