Hi. I just installed worms world party and played all right, the first time I did. Now I tryed to play, but a when I start the game, the cake doesn't show up, just the boom. Then I only see a black screen with poorly colored worms around it.
My video card is an nVidia GeForce with the latest version.
My PC ultra mega super uber overpasses the recommended requirements of the game.
Also, I tested the game on my brother's computer (which has a 93MB Intel Graphics Video Card, and it worked). That tells us that my video card is what is generating the problem. Its a 5800 ultra
im having the same problem! when the game starts the worms are colored oddly and the background is black! =[

Hey, Ive been thinking that the problem is my video card. I have an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5950 Ultra.
What's your card?
If it is an Nvidia, but you don't know the model, go to here (http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-us). This will scan your computer and tell you which nVidia you have. It will also update your drivers, which could probably fix you problem. It fixed mine the first time I played it, but then, It was all the same, so please: before saying it worked, test the game twice or more. I was heavily dissapointed when I ran wwp again, and my problem was still not solved.. :(
Ah. This sounds like another program is "stealing" the palette.
Try closing any other non-essential programs. Programs with the "always on top" feature such as ObjectDock and Windows Live Messenger have been known to cause this problem.

Hi! I got it! Well, the solution to MY problem, at least. I went on to the options menu, and noticed that I had the resolution on 1024x(you know what) yellow one, so I turned it into the 640 one (the green one), and voila! It works now!. You might have to quit and run worms again for it to apply though.

I also noticed that sometimes, when you go to the options section and change something, I t will happen again, even with the resolution in 640. You just have to restart worms. 8(
Listen to Melon's suggestion, it's possible that's where your problem lies. And even if that isn't it, at least we'll know for certain after you've tried it and can start coming up with other suggestions.
But no matter the cause, you shouldn't be forced to play the game at such a low resolution. It's far more enjoyable at your monitor's native one, trust me.

Well, for me, i'am ok with 640, considering that worms isn't very detailed as to see it in 1024...but your more than invited to investigate this solution

Have you tried Melon's suggestion?
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't playing in a higher resolution actually let you see more of the terrain at once? So even if there is not that much detail, it's allways better to have a wider view of the terrain rather than having to scroll around a lot.
That's right. Higher resolutions make things smaller, so you can see more of the land at once. I just can't go back to a lower resolution, a high resolution helps with accuracy so much.

I had the same problem with Worms World Party on Windows Vista.
As Melon suggested the problem was solved by closing other applications. I think it was Windows sidepanel that caused the problem.
It now runs fine in 1024x768 without compatibility mode activated.
Another "fix" was to force WWP to run in 256 colors. This would cause the colors of the intro menus to be screwed up, but the game colors where fine then.
I don't lnow about y'all, but I have no other programs that I could close. And still have this issue, at first after install the game ran perfectly. Then it started...the loading screen (the cake) was no longer a cake, but a black square was on the place of the cake. The surrounding color was pink. And the worms were black, as well as the landscape...and the background was slightly blue(ish).
Any other ideas...
My specs:
Vista Home Premium (32 bit, but I switched to 16-bit to no avail)
Nvidia GeForce GO 6150
Compaq Presario v6000 notebook
Windows Aero: DISABLED

Normally inverted/messed-up colours indicate that some program is stealing the game's focus, thus switching between the paletted, 256 colour mode of Worms and your (probably) true colour, 32bit Windows desktop.
Most of the time it's instant messengers or similar programs that have an "always on top" or "floating" feature enable.
AFAIR, Winamp and Stardock's object desktop are known to cause it too.
--------
BTW, what would happen if one would set the desktop to 256 colours?
Would it still mess up the game because those colours are fixed and not paletted?
Or would minimizing/switching work without any colour issues?
Logically it would work, but I can't remember if 8-bit colours is an option in Vista!
Nah, all is well now...I used the following shortcut command to always start WWP in high priority, which eliminated the problem, as it theoretically gives more focus on the game.
"C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe /c start "WWP" /high B:\Shared\games\WWP\wwp.exe"
You could well be onto something there.
Well, theoretically, as I said, setting a process to start at a higher prority should give that process more focus than any other process.
Although in single-core processors, this has a high chance of freezing the computer, especially at 'high' and 'realtime'. Dual core are not that guaranteed either.
i've got the same problem on XP SP2, black screen when i play, no cake on load, I only see the worms with bad colors :'(
I got an E6600, 1950XTX
i've tried w98 compatibility, 256 colors but it doesn't work :(
