View Full Version : How do they look? (Worm style questions)
Hi!
I've been trying to improve my worm's style, but now I want you to say what do YOU think... :p
Then, I can even try to do some Fan Art... Or even requests... That after fixing the last errors that can still be there...
So... What do you think?? What do you think it needs to fix??

(Colored and inked with "The Gimp")
I save it in PNG... If it's not the best format, please tell me...
And escuse me grammar and/or ortographics error... English isn't my first laguage...
PS: Yes, I've read the Fan-Art rules... :P
Hey that's pretty good! A lot better than most people's first attempts.
One place that could be improved is to have a "crease" or "fold" where the tail meets the body. Try drawing him in a couple of different positions. I usually find if something's wrong looking about him you'll find out for sure if he looks odd in some other pose. Try drawing him with some different expressions, open the mouth for example.
Otherwise, looking good.

It is the best format. By far. No loss in quality.

Thanks!!! :D

I'll try to do that right away!
Ok, here it is...

Is this what you asked for?

Already tried... It looked preety well Screaming and Crying... But that was on a notebook's piece of paper... I'll do it again in a "normal" paper (with no lines) and I'll edit this post as soon as I scan the new drawing...
Otherwise, looking good.
Thanks again... :p:D

I would change the little curve of the line of the back of the worm. It would look like a linked sausage if you stretched it out. The fold in good, though.
Actually, that was an error, but then i looked closely, and it seemed cool... However, if you think it's an error, I wont do it again... (I hope we're talking about the same thing... :p)
And thanks for telling me what you think... :D
PS: We were talking about this area, right???

If, don't, we were talking about where? :p

Quite nice worm, there.
I personally don't find the crease all that necessary, but that's mostly because I never draw one. :p

Well that's not a very good attitude. :p

Because all skin is exactly the same color.
Come on, even Team17 changes the color of the worms regularly. :p
maybe you could improve on some sections like illustrated in the edited image below:

True, the crease is unnecessary, but I was just looking for a way to improve a picture that was already good. There wasn't much to choose.

What's so bad about it?
whats so bad? its just that you fall into the same group as i am currently in now.
but anyways, JSMCAG (did i spell that right?) you did marvelously upon your first try, compared with MY first artworks.
i suggest you think of a nickname which is easier (e.g. JasmCage) as spelling out JSMCAG is quite a hassle.
Thanks to all to comment...
Now, about the skin color, I know is a litle strange, but I think that's mostly because I've not added shadow... I still need to work on that part...
And thanks yauhui for your help, but the thing is that my base to draw worms is the "third generation" of them (the one used in Worms 3D; Worms Forts Under Siege and Worms 4 Mayhem), while your basing yours on "second generation" worms (the ones used in Worms 2; Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party)... I know that Worms Armageddon was the best worms game til now, but if you watch the latest Worms games for the DS; PSP; WII and XBOX, you'll repair that they use something like the conceps that Team 17 presented on Worms 3D website (I can be completly wrong here... But that was what seemed to me when I saw the traillers from those games...)
And about my name... I've been trying to think in something more easy, but I'm not imagining nothing good... Lack of imagination... :-/:(:p But if you think it's too hard, just say "JS"... That always helps...:P
Thanks again to all... ^_^

as far as the name goes, I figure Cag will end up being the short-hand version, as it's actually pronouncable. that's pretty much the only name any worms referring to you would go by.
and onto the art: that's rather good. as far as base shape of the worm I really don't see anything from the original image you posted that needs to be changed. sure, the crease could be added, but it's unneccessary. same with the changes yauhui suggested, they're unneccessary, but feel free to do them like that.
what you need now is just to draw more and get the style down and improve on your general artistic skill through that practice. try out different poses and expressions and such for each of the images you do from now on. perhaps do a page of different expressions and poses for the worms, like Team17's concept images on the W3D site?

Maybe... I'll think of that... Thanks!

I'm doing that, actually... As I said before, I've already make them scraming and crying... Today I made three more... Pointing a Uzi (need to work on the Uzi, still...), eating an orange (basicaly to see if the could go well with a happy smile... :p) and thinking... And there are 15:30 here, so theres plenty of time do do more... :p:D When I finish that page, I'll scan it, ink it, color it (with shadow this time! At least I'll try...) and show it in here... And then I'll start to do some Fan-Art... :p

Hmm... Aku basically said everyone's opinion, so I don't think I can add anymore. :p
Try doing some shading, It makes your worms look more 3D or some other nonsense.
Hi to all again!
As I said before, I'm doing a page with loads of Worms expressions and poses, but I'm not finish yet, unfortunately...
But the thing is that this thread is dying... And I don't want to post in a completly dead thread, when I'm over with that, so I though it could be a nice idea, instead of showing all the page at once, to show one expression at the time... That way I think that this thread will be alive until I don't need it any more...
So what do you think??? :p
Today I'll show you my worm screaming...

(Not colored, inked or shaded)
http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p84/jsmcag/Worms/WormScreaming.png
(Colored, inked and shaded with "The Gimp")
As you can see, I've added shading and choose another color for my Worm, but I think there's something wrong with eyes and eyebrows, althrough i used tracing paper to get the position of them right...
PS: After much thinking, I think that "Jag" is cool (but I'm not sure... LOOoooooOOOOoOoOOOoOOL) So, from now on I will be called as "Jag", because I am... JAG! MUAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! XD
(For thoso who haven't understand... It's the first letter and the last two frm my nickname... :p)

oooo, that's quite a bit better!
only thing I see for you to do on that one is that larger eyes would make for a much more scared look to the worm. comically over-sized features work well for worms.

The shape and everything is good, I just did larger eyes which is the biggest change, it's just how I would draw it :p
Improved that pic a lil bit futher.

Hmmm... wait, let me fix that for you:
Improved Completely ruined that pic a lil LOT bit futher.
Ah, there you go.
And there I was thinking that the day yauhui was improving HK's art advice would be at the end of time.

I knew there was somthing wrong with eyes and eyebrows!!! Thanks a lot!!!

I belive that's for EXTREAM CASES!!! I don't think he ruined HK pic... It's just an other way to draw screaming worm, but is only used when is the END OF THE WORLD (or something similar...)!!! :p
And is it just me, or the pupils are different??? They seem...Green, now... :p

You can't improve on what HK did, Yauhui! Now punish yourself and think of what you did.
However, that's quite nice, JAG. That's quite an improvement.

the veins in the eye reflect strain, so they COULD be used, but it's almost always excessive unless you use them in very small quantities.

True, but usually Splapp can pull off the excessive eye-veins thing.
Mostly because of his style of drawing, and he puts alot of little details on stuff he draws, vein things, exxagerated expressions...
Little hair on a worm's head for no apparent reason. :p
