Nightlong crashes

Heya. This is my first post here so be gentle with me, yes? :D

Anyways, the other day I finally got my hands on Nightlong again (I first played it years ago). It's been working fine so far but now there's a problem: when I try to enter the Sphinx, the game crashes. I don't see any visible scratches in the disk, so could it be something else? I'm running Windows XP if that's relevant (it usually is).

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Okay, an update: I found a save game that's supposed to solve this problem, but the save game starts at the Fissure, which means I'd have to go back out through the Sphinx, which crashes the game again :(
