View Full Version : Let's play Monopoly again
Old thread (http://forum.team17.co.uk/showthread.php?t=20282) (it took just over three years, not bad really)
The board (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monopoly_%28game%29#Atlantic_City_version)
Virtual dice (http://hamete.org/dserver/dice) (use 2d6 of course)
SupSuper's reference sheet (http://supsuper.wurmz.net/stuff/monopoly.html)
SupSuper's card randomiser (http://supsuper.wurmz.net/stuff/cards.html)
In this thread we play monopoly. It stays in open discussion because we can make the reasonable assumption that no one here will cheat.
but why not just play using a proper monop-
get out
THE RULES:
are here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monopoly_%28game%29#Official_rules) (official only, exceptions below)
no auctioning: if a property isn't bought it remains unowned until landed on again
all legal contracts between players will be honoured (ron paul clause) for example "I'll give you this property for 20% of all profits and immunity" and so on and so forth
Each post should be laid out as follows (i.e. include as much info as you can):
Ended last turn with £309
Starting this turn with £309
Starting from Park Lane, I roll 2+2=4 and land on Old Kent Road
+£200 for passing GO
-£60 to buy Old Kent Road
Starting from Old Kent Road, I roll 4+5=9 and land on Just Visiting
-£150 to purchase 1 house on Coventry Street
Ending this turn with £299 and
Old Kent Road, undeveloped (accepting £500 for purchase)
Leicester Square, 1 house
Coventry Street, 1 house
Picadilly, 1 house
Park Lane, undeveloped (accepting £3000 purchase)
Next Turn: SupSuper
If anyone wants to play, suggest house rules, suggest exceptions to rules, suggest changes to exceptions to rules, or whatever else before we actually begin, then add your post to the thread in an orderly manner.
Since this is an entirely virtual game, your suggestions can be as ridiculous as you want (as long as they actually have an effect - so no "rename Old Kent Road to HackerMan's Hovel")

I'd like to suggest we play using the American board this time around. Also, even build as well as even takedown should apply.
Money on Free Parking is dumb and if anyone suggests it I will punch them.

Team 17 is an English company. Therefore: English board. That's what I say. But I only say that because I know the english board.
I think the american board will be fine. We did english last time and about half of us are american anyway

Ok I'm out...
No seriously, I'm bad at this game, but I do look forward to watching you play. :p
If we're going to be using an american board, could somebody post a link to the board and all of the rents and costs of things. I'd imagine they'd be different numbers being in dollars and all.

I've put together this handy dandy reference sheet (http://supsuper.wurmz.net/stuff/monopoly.html) and I may also provide a Chance/Community generators to add a spin to things.
Oh nice stuff. You can also find the american version here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monopoly_%28game%29#Atlantic_City_version), in the form of a clumsy, ugly table.
How about auctioning, though? Last game we ditched it but I reckon it would be pretty fun to work it in somehow, though it might take longer. Or, we could do the randomly-dealt properties method, which would certainly speed the game up if nothing else.
Also I like the timezone idea, we can figure that out later

Damn, Dan's taken the car.
Erm... cannon (oh dear, that's seven people. But I did say I wanted to play in the other thread).
I'd rather have the London board (I can remember all the names easier that way), but I'll live with an Atlantic City one.

Quick question! It's something I've never understood regarding the rules. If I land on a propertyb that's for sale, and I have enough money to buy it but I don't want to, am I still forced to buy it? I might want to save my money for something like houses or a Mayfair hotel rent.

Nah. I'll do it for $550.
You do realize that $425 is the single highest price offered for any property thus far, right?:p
In straight cash value, yes. But you are also forgetting that:
a) it's the most costly property traded so far
b) things other than money have been traded/suggested so far, such as rent immunity and even % of future income.
As a usual rule when I play, trading is usually worth almost double value of the property's original sale price.
