If you have a iPod Touch, can you connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi for free?!?
or do you have to have some sort of plan?

it would be silly if you couldn't. but keep in mind that not all wifi hot spots offer wifi for free.

It's the same wireless as you get in your laptops and things like that.
If there's a free wifi hotspot, then you can use that. If there's a Wifi hotspot that requires you to pay for usage, then you have to pay.
is there anywhere u can find out where all the free wifi spots are?

just to make sure-
this means i can use the wi-fi abilities of the ipod touch at my house which has wifi... for free?
EDIT: then what makes Starbucks so special for hosting free wi-fi, if McDonalds already does this?

Yes.

Starbucks actually provides their wifi through T-Mobile, and you need to pay for an account to use this.
however! I have to say that if you're getting the iPod Touch, you're getting a rubbish iPod. You'd be better off buying a Nano.

you're saying that Starbucks has better connection to the internet, so that's why it is infamous for the wifi?

i've been an owner of the ipod nano for more than two years now, and the touch seems pretty sweet. (i've watched the short clip about it.)
i'm really just interested in being able to search the web, watch YouTube and full movies on the go, putting appointments in my calendar, ALL OF THIS without having to pay one monthly fee! it sounds like a dream come true.
what's so rubbish about an iPod Touch? :(

No, I'm saying that Starbucks' wifi connectivity is provided by T-Mobile, and you need to pay for it.

It has limited memory, for one. It'd only, what, 7GB? I can't remember. But I have a fifth-generation iPod currently clipped to my belt (and playing "Siberia" from the TimeSplitters 2 soundtrack) which has a high capacity on it for a lower price, and I can access the Intarwebs via wifi on my PSP and DS.

Yeah, I have the DS Web Browser, too. It totally sucks, yet I use it a great deal. You can't play videos on it!
I've made up my mind, I'll sell my first generation iPod Nano on ebay for a few bucks, and then grab the Touch for Christmas.
The Nano did cost $249.99 when it came out, and for just a few bucks more, I can get the Touch, which has so many more features.
... The Touch does have a calendar, right?
The Longboard and SideKick Slide are going to have to wait 'til next Christmas or once I get a job:confused:.

you just said "get a nano instead" which makes utterly no sense whatsoever given that the iPod touch comes in larger capacities than the nano (nano is available in 4 and 8, iPod touch in 8 and 16)
pricewise i still think the touch is a little high, but come on, be reasonable when you're doing comparisons - the iPod classic might have bigger capacity, but it doesn't have anywhere near the features of the touch

even on psp the browser is pretty rubbish. i don't really understand why nobody has figured out how to make a decent browser that doesn't need a ridiculous amount of memory to run, but whatever. (maybe i'll give it a shot. at least, i'll see what the difficulties are.)
my personal solution for all things portable is streaming everything from my ps3 to my psp. ps3's browser is pretty much complete, and the space for music/videos is not an issue. even if ps3's hdd is not enough, i can share the media library with a pc via home network. but failing that, ipod touch isn't such a bad alternative.

I tend to remote-connect my PS3 and PSP as well these days. If nothing else, it's a great way of monitoring my Folding@home progress.
the latest ipod nano is capable of watching videos fyi.
and if you wana get an ipod touch, i'd reckon you get the iphone.
YOU CANT PERMENANTLY DELETE VIDEOS IN THE IPOD TOUCH.
There's a secret way to delete videos in the iPod touch, but that only works visually. connect your ipod touch to your pc and you will still find your "deleted" video still in where it was before. The only way to delete them permenantly is to use your COMPUTER!

Wouldn't the touch feature on the screen start to wear out after awhile? And it would really suck if your screen got cracked...

Um, no it isn't. I've been deleting videos on it since I've got it, but it's pretty obvious that the video will sync back on when you connect it to your computer, since the iPod is following the sync-plan that you set up in iTunes.

HOW. DARE. YOU. You're just saying that because you can't afford it. Every aspect of the touch is ***age.
The iPod touch has limited capacity, 16 GB tops in fact, cus of flash memory limitations. If it would have more memory, it'd be a lot thicker than it is now. And it would be too big of a competitor against the iPod classic.
And it would really suck if your screen got cracked...
Why? Because it means you won't be able to touch the screen without getting hurt, or beacue it becomes near-useless when you can't see a thing?

Why would you want to look at the internet through a one inch screen? I don't use the Browser on my PSP much, even.
And, is there such thing as a non-rubbish Ipod?
I have an Ipod only because it doesn't skip on public transportation.

I won't embarrass you by telling you just how many iPod Touches I could afford to buy right now. But I'll tell you this: it's more than one.

So they don't want to compete against... themselves? Oh no, Apple are scared of Apple!

Heh! They should be more like Microsoft: that company isn't even the least bit afraid of kicking Microsoft's ass!

no, it's because they want to delineate their models so that they have a more diverse product line and make more money

Huh?
Are you one of the people that thinks all mp3 players are iPods?
If so: there are a massive variety of mp3 players, one of which, if not the iPod, is bound to suit your lifestyle for a price that won't dent your wallet.
If not: none of these excellent choices with skip on the bus.

and you cannot delete files off your computer, either. when you delete files on the computer, they are simply marked as empty space. they are never actually removed. anyone with proper software can see all the files you have deleted. so what's the difference?

Ahaha most of my customers are like that.
"Hey how much does the new phone cost... the one that has an Ipod on one side and a Phone on the other side?"
They are, of course, referring to the UpStage... rofl.
Samsung M620http://www.gadgetell.com/images/2007/03/samsungm620.jpg?
that is the worst phone you'd ever want.
If you receive a new SMS message, you wouldnt know who sent it to you... freaky?
besides, you HAVE to use the tinier of the two screens to read your messages, one line at a time... *snore*
