View Full Version : Questions about the DS version for experienced Worm fans.
For those of you oldschool wormers you'll remember me as Ploegman. I used to play loads of shoppers and propers online for WA and WWP as well as creating a few decent shopper maps.
My questions concern the Nintendo DS version of this game.
1. Are you able to make landscapes indestructable within the level editor?
2. Are you able to create your own schemes and save them on the game?
3. If so then am I able to create a classic shopper game? Using a custom indestructable map, having a crate fall before every turn, infinite rope uses, etc.
I've heard that you cannot use your own schemes online or something to that degree, however, is it possible to play classic shopper games offline. This is my main concern. I almost consistently play worms for the shopper games.
Thanks in advance for the help!

1. No. You are able to make landscapes indestructible with the scheme editor.
2. Yes, up to ten, I think, but I would advise only changing the last four.
3. No, not as far as I can tell. There's a glitch, or oversight or something that only allows five crate drops per round, unless there's something I'm missing. You can make the crates fall every turn, but after five, they seem to stop coming. :/
And yeah, you can use your own schemes online, but only in Friends matches.

also, you dont really have control over what will come in the crates.
This in my opinion is a pretty big oversight. It's a real shame as full scheme custimization is what really turned worms into what it became.
Don't get me wrong, worms is a fun game on it's own ... but a huge online community was formed around different games created by different fans. Some games failed but some games grew popular amongst us.
Team17, I hope you will one day put out a new 2D game that is a near-clone of WA & WWP. This forum is an inconcievable resource for you. Us worms fans give you guys lots and lots of feedback and advice. I would love to see a new 2D game based on WA & WWP with some real time spent on it, and a lot of research put into the advice given to you by forum members. You have the power to give us worms fans what we truly desire.
It's been asked for years now on this forum, and it seems every worms fan is united on it. We've been asking for so long, but it seems we just keep getting a lil tease. I am still waiting upon that next 2D worms game that fixes all the problems with the last worms game, has rich customization again, new weapons, great editors, the works. We are pretty much handing you an overview of the game we are asking for ... and all you have to do is make it ... and we will gladly fork over our money to you.

No, I think that's something wrong with your game because I get a lot of crates on my game. unless you're talking about online, there might be a glitch there...

If it only happens... Then I'd say it's to reduce lag.

Nothing is wrong with my game. Let me ask you. Do you get more than five weapon crates in a round, or just lots of health crates? I guarantee you, you have never gotten more than five weapon drops in a round on the DS version.

What's the point in developing the same game twice?
Aren't they making a 2D Worms for Wii? (I forgot, but I think around Spring 2008). It's a lot to wait, but I have a hint this game will rock.
And Team17 deserves a rest once in a while.
(Funny, I never played the actual 3D Worms games such as Mayhem, only the 2D ones, I really should check some videos of them).
Anywho, some of the questions in here I also wanted to ask, and I really want to put my hands on this version of W:OW2. :D

i might re-purchase WA soon, however i think this guy means, build a new 2d pc worms with all new themes, weapons and better graphics and more customistion, ie build on WA.

But it's not what he said. What he said was that he wants a "near-clone of WA & WWP". Why put the same game out twice?

well that was one sentence of what he said yes, but it doesn't take a genius to work out what he is really trying to say does it.

I could actually see some homebrew developer doing a port though, as with the DS ports of the Amiga Lemmings games and the PC Wolfenstein 3D/Doom/Quake games. I'm not holding my breath on it, but it seems possible.

That homebrew developer would, really, need the sourcecode for WA to do it.
Only three people have the DS source code:
Team17 (not really a person but meh)
Deadcode
CyberShadow

I presume you mean WA sourcecode, not DS. Even still, it's actually four if you count TwoTribes. Five if the include the Code Monkeys, although whetehr or not they still have said code is unknown.
